That obviously leaves the Eagles and Giants as the top two on his list of potential destinations. In recent years, though, the Eagles have been reluctant to give big contracts to linebackers. Instead, they have settled on players such as Nate Wayne and former Giant Dhani Jones, who have come at discounted rates. " |

"It's the NFC East, so it's an option, I'll tell you that," Arrington said. "I'd just love to bless (the Redskins) with my presence twice a year." " |

Key left without a deal
Quote : | " Three people with knowledge of the offer said it was a multiyear deal, paying Johnson between $3 million and 4 million in the first year. All of the people spoke on condition of anonymity because the negotiations could continue at a later date.
The three-time Pro Bowl selection was scheduled to earn $2.5 million from the Cowboys in 2006 before he was released last week for salary-cap purposes.
Though Johnson departed yesterday without a deal, the Giants remain viable contenders for his services. Johnson will mull over his visit with the Giants and might meet with more teams in the coming days.
Johnson had dinner with Giants coach Tom Coughlin and other members of the team's coaching staff on Monday night. He and his agent, Jerome Stanley, arrived at Giants Stadium yesterday morning for a few hours of meetings and negotiations.
Johnson's limo left East Rutherford around 4 p.m. and drove past a group of reporters without stopping. When approached by MSG Network reporter Anthony Fucilli at LaGuardia Airport, Johnson refused to comment on his meeting with the Giants. Stanley did not return a phone message left at his office yesterday. " |

i was just asking my dad a while ago how it is the skins keep signing so many fucking players, and where theyre getting all this cap space from
and then tony kornheiser says the same thing
its old but i just thought of it now
Quote : | "When It Comes to the Salary Cap, The Redskins Pass the Bucks
By Tony Kornheiser Wednesday, March 15, 2006; Page E02
Excuse me, but exactly how does the NFL salary cap work? More to the point, are the Redskins operating under the same salary cap as everybody else?
Because every February we read that the Redskins are way over the cap, and disaster is looming. And then every March the Redskins outspend everybody else. So it can't be a hard cap. Cap, schmap. It has to be some giant rubber band that The Danny can stretch from here to eternity. In the last few days at the cost of, oh, I don't know, $100 million, the Redskins have brought in a young wide receiver, an old tight end, a large defensive end, a strong safety, an aging backup quarterback and a young triple-threat wide receiver, punt and kickoff returner who happened to be a college quarterback. (If you're counting, this gives the Redskins five quarterbacks at the moment. It's beginning to look like second base on the Nationals.)
Is there no real limit to all this spending? Or is owning a team in the NFL like going to the Copacabana, where if you want a good table you just grease the maitre d'. Because it seems impossible that the Redskins haven't gone flying over the cap in the last few days. Where does all this money come from? (That's a joke, peeps. Obviously, it comes from the parking, hahaha.)
All this talk about "restructuring" players' contracts is fine. But don't the players have to make some money sometime? And doesn't money count toward the cap? When does the NFL stand up and say, "Okay, the betting window is closed." Or are the Redskins already in Dean Wormer land, on double-secret probation?
Not that I'm complaining. I always like it when a team tries to win and I'm all for giving Coach "Joe" what he wants. But I just wonder if he's really ready for this young man, Brandon Lloyd, who said of his troubles last year with his fellow 49ers, "They just weren't feeling my style." Hmmmm.
Oh, it is a brave new world, isn't it?

Washington Post says Lavar is talking again
Quote : | " Arrington Continues To Talk With Giants
Wednesday, April 5, 2006; Page E02
Former Washington Redskins linebacker LaVar Arrington continued to negotiate with the New York Giants yesterday, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Arrington, who negotiated his release from the club before the start of free agency last month, has stated his desire to remain in the NFC East, and he is the highest-profile free agent remaining on the market. Jacksonville, Miami and Cincinnati have made efforts to sign him as well." |

Quote : | "Giants Sign TE Tony Jackson: The Giants have officially announced that they have signed unrestricted free agent TE Tony Jackson, who was waived by the Seahawks last September.
Because of this move, we have updated the Free Agents Signed (includes scouting report on Jackson), 2006 Free Agent Scorecard, Roster, and Depth Chart sections of the website.
LB Chad Brown to Visit the Giants: According to Newsday, unrestricted free agent LB Chad Brown (Patriots) is expected to visit the Giants soon. "We're going to talk (Thursday) and set up a visit," said Brown's agent. "Chad is very excited about meeting with the staff. There are no absolutes or definites, but we'll see what happens."
LaVar Arrington Update: A couple of BBI posters contacted Jason LaCanfora of The Washington Post yesterday in order to determine the seriousness of the negotiations between the Giants and unrestricted free agent LB LaVar Arrington. According to LaCanfora, people close to Arrington said talks between both sides were "very hot," despite the fact that Arrington is said to be seeking a huge contract. However, the Giants are contending that the team has not had conversations with Arrington's agents in weeks.
What may be happening is that Arrington's agents have leaked to The Washington Post that there are serious negotiations going on with the Giants in order to spur other teams to once again enter the mix and elevate their contract offers to Arrington. If the Giants are telling the truth in that they have not had conversations with Arrington's agents in weeks, then their original offer – possibly a take-it-or-leave-it offer – may still be on the table and the Giants may be holding firm.
Meanwhile, John Clayton of ESPN is reporting that Arrington will likely sign with the Giants or Dolphins. According to Clayton, the Giants are the favorites because they are offering a $10 million signing bonus.
The New York Post is reporting that the Giants have not engaged in substantive talks with Arrington's agents since making an offer three weeks ago – the same story being received by BBI. The Post says Arrington and his family visited the Giants during the second week in March, meeting with General Manager Ernie Accorsi and the coaching staff, as well as MLB Antonio Pierce. The paper said Arrington did not take a physical or workout for the team at that time. After the visit, the Giants made a general contract proposal, but it was not accepted by Arrington's agents according to The Post. The paper says that little has changed since that time and that reports that a deal with Arrington is close are not accurate. The Post says the gap between both sides is still quite large. The Jaguars, Dolphins, and Bengals appear to all be still interested, but not at LaVar's asking price. This is clearly the story the Giants want out there and it is a virtual certainty that the public affairs department of the Giants is the source of this information." |
