USA vs. Germany tomorrow on ESPN2 at 2:30

Even though our world cup starting 11 wont probably be there due to other leagues, this will probably give us a good prediction on what world cup 2006 is going to be like considering germany is a very respectable club.

You sure?? I was under the impression the Prem players weren't going to make the trip. With the FA Cup and a full compliment of Prem games this weekend I didn't think McBride, Friedel, etc were going to be with the team...

I completely forgot that Convey plays for Reading now. They can clinch promotion up to the top flight with a win this weekend...

In their last games, Germany lost in Italy 4-1 and USA won against Poland 1-0.

Needless to say, the German coach is in hot water and needs a win.

brian mcbride, claudio reyna, and landon donovan are probably 3 of our most strongest players and they're not starting. should be interesting to see who steps up.

BTW, Friedel retired from international competition. The US goal depth chart is as follows:

Kasey Keller
Kevin Hartman/Tim Howard (needs playing time)
Marcus Hahnemann

^ Beasley and Gooch are just as if not more important than Donovan and McBride.

^^^^ I knew that. I wasn't thinking. I meant Howard considering he isn't getting much run with ManU..

I'm surprised Convey was allowed to go but I suppose Reading has no real worries considering they are going to be promoted regardless..

Gooch plays for Standard Liege in the Belgian First Division. He's there on a team option tacked to the end of a loan from FC Metz in Ligue 1 in France.

^ As for Howard, I think he's an outstanding goalkeeper when he's on, and shaky at best when he's not. You can't ignore the fact that he won Premiership goalkeeper of the year. After the debacle at Porto in the CL, he really got the shaft from Sir Alex. Say what you want about him, but he never dropped a kick from midfield over the line like a certain Manc 'keeper whose names ends with -oy -arroll.

I'm not saying Roy Carroll was the end all and be all, I'm just saying that every game I've seen out of Howard since he got benched, he's proven again and again that he's not first team material anymore. I could understand if he didn't get any playing time at all, but he plays with the reserves almost every game. It's like he gets out on the first team stage and shits his pants because he's constantly doing DUMB things.

^^ yeah but ManU really fucked him over by getting him to sign a deal and then going out and getting Van der Sar... I mean, he could've gone somewhere else in the epl or anywhere else to get some playing time and get better

I think the fact that he sucks affects his playing ability

and aimorris he used to be the starter, he's been with the devils since 2003. He's just shitty, that's why he got benched. They just picked up VDS this past offseason.

Once Sir Alex signed VDS I didn't pay much attention to the Devils' net, but I can't believe that Howard actually thought he had a chance at being the starter again.

If you didn't know, the beginning of the end was during the CL in 2004. Howard dropped an easily controllable cross in a match against Porto that led to a goal, and the elimination of United from the CL. At that point, Roy Carroll started to get into the first team more often, and eventually he took over the starting job. The real indicator for Howard's status was a game against Tottenham, where Carroll dropped the winning lob over the goal line, and because the shot was from the half line, the linesman didn't see it go over. Even then, Howard didn't get a majority of the starts.

I think if he can get a transfer to a Nationwide club and help them go on a promotion run, etc., as a number one, he can get his confidence and top flight form back. As it stands, I have more faith in Hartman and Hahnemann, though it was quite obvious in the US/Madrid match that Hartman doesn't quite have the hands to deal with world class shots.

I pull away from updating the messageboard for 20 minutes and we go from everyone pleased to everyone pissed off. (not this one)

I guess it's up to me to be Captain Obvious:

Italy 4, Germany 1 (a little more than a month ago)
Germany 4, United States 1

Italy v. USA - group stage
