How do you apologize for doing something intentional (over and over)? Maybe NOW he knows what he did wrong, but it's so different when you didn't mean to cause harm.

Where is the outrage? If those three guys were black, you know Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would have been by their side the whole time.

Anyone watch Nancy Grace? She rips these guys for over a year, then the day they are let off, she has a guest host and today she doesn't even mention it. Who takes her seriously and how is she popular?

When are Duke University and the Duke 88 going to apologize to the falsely accused? And I heard the women's basketball team from Rutgers is going on Oprah. When will the falsely accused be invited to appear?

good point.

i'm sure any show they appeared on would send ratings through the roof.

i'd bet money that they have been invited for quite a few.

and are probably just holding back pending advance payments on a book deal.

not unless they can prove that Duke treated them differently, or used a different protocol, which it looks like they didnt. I think it is Duke's policy to place anyone with a pending criminal investigation on "administrative leave", so no unfair treatment, no real shot at a law suit.

If that is the case, they could always attack the policy itself. Just because something is policy doesn't mean the university is held harmless for following it. This could raise general questions of whether universities can kick students out of school for being charged with a crime.

Even if they were invited to appear, that's the last thing these guys should do, IMHO. If they're going to do a civil suit, then do that. That may still have somewhat of a media following with that, but probably more local scale. Then when a verdict is reached it may get some national headlines if they're successful. Otherwise, I think those three should stay out of the media as much as possible now.

It would be great if they sued Nifong for defamation of character for calling them "a bunch of hooligans" and smearing their names in the press. Any Dookie officials or professors like Houston Baker should also be sued. I bet that arrogant bastard makes some bank and they should try to get it all.

This cartoon is pretty stupid. The top 3 characters made directly offensive racial remarks.

Where as sharpton, as their little pamphlet says, rushed to judgement, like a lot of the news media, and plenty of other people in general.

A better cartoon would be showing other people that have already publicly apologized for judging the duke players, then show Sharpton and Jackson.

The Rev. Sharpton has a long and well documented history of making racial remarks, and I think he has a radio show, yep,

http://www.sharptontalk.net/

can you maybe see the relevance to the Imus scandal?

First of all, that's not what the cartoon is trying to point out, because there's no direct connection between Imus and the Duke scandal.

Secondly, it's irrelevant that Sharpton merely has a radio show, just like Imus. There would also have to be some story about Sharpton using a racist slur on his radio show (like saying "pig-faced fags" about some predominantly white college sports team) for that to be relevant.

It's fine for you to hate Sharpton, and I don't personally really care if you hate Sharpton, but when you do it for BS reasons, it just makes you look racist.

When something like this happens, can't the AG do something about it sooner? Did Roy Cooper not watch news last year or are his hands tied until someone like Nifong recuses himself?

If you're going to get on someone's case for being a "moron" then please for the love of God, USE CORRECT GRAMMAR AND SPELLING.

Anyways, I think expecting Sharpton, Jackson, and the rest to apologize is wishful thinking and it has been all along.

The point is that all of the pictured individuals have engaged in manifestly racist speech. The cartoon is funny because it points out the hypocrisy of Sharpton and Jackson who to my knowledge still have not bothered to apologize for their own previous racist statements about the Duke case and more.

I sure he has said racist things on his radio show, I can't find any quotes at the moment, but he is well known for his commentary about "white interlopers" or "diamond merchants" which should be understood in the context of the following

"The Crown Heights pogrom occurred after a car accident involving the motorcade for the Lubavitcher Rebbe killed a young boy Gavin Cato. A riot was sparked after a private Hasidic ambulance came to the scene and, on the orders of a police officer, removed the Hasidic driver from the scene. Gavin Cato and his cousin Angela were picked up soon after by a city ambulance. Caribbean-American and African-American residents of the neighborhood then rioted for four consecutive days fueled by rumors driven by Sharpton that the private ambulance had refused to treat Cato. Al Sharpton became the de-facto representative for the Cato family.During the funeral he referred to "diamond merchants" considered a code word for Hasidic Jews for shedding "the blood of innocent babies" leading marchers shouting "No Justice No Peace". Sharpton did not start the riots but his rhetoric poured gas on the fire. And while the Mayor of NY refused to do anything to help, A visiting rabbinical student from Australia by the name of Yankel Rosenbaum, 29 years old, was killed during the rioting by a mob shouting "Kill the Jew"." from http://www.israelated.com/node/12294

Quote :
"It's fine for you to hate Sharpton, and I don't personally really care if you hate Sharpton, but when you do it for BS reasons, it just makes you look racist."

I don't hate Sharpton. I hate that people listen to him and give him any sort of forum.

Imus said some stupid stuff about people who were not in any kind of legal jeopardy and frankly in the bigger context of his show it was probably intended to be comedy ( I don't get Imus so I can't be sure)

Sharpton and Jackson added fuel to the fire of unfounded accusations. Its really much worse then some stupid comment by Imus because it could have played a large role in increasing the mob mentallity of the african american community in Durham and elsewhere. In other words Jesse and Al provided Nifong a political motivation for railroading the boys. This is not the first time that they have based their arguments on race. Or prove me wrong, show me where they've irrationally defended some white dude. Without trumped up racism Al and Jesse cease to exist as public figures.

This guy should have done some research before writing that article

White people do NOT always get away with rape, murder, and beatings of any person of ANY decent. Black people get away with ruining white people's lives too - the stripper in the Duke Lacrosse case would be an example.

If you don't like America, then leave. You're a "son of Africa" 20 times removed and you are likely nothing like those living in Africa today. Guess what? There are rapists in Africa too - and many, many of those rapes go unpunished because rapes are used as a political tool to control and scare. How would you like that political system as opposed to this one?
