what i want to know is when's this coming out in the US?
I heard a rumor that it'll be out in May along with the new Mario Bros. game.
If so, it will be mine. 4/11/2006 10:16:43 AM |

got my black ds from an importer of sorts (gameexpress).. came preset to japanese.. and nintendo hid the language option a little ways back in the menus
they never did bring the black ds to the US did they.. shame.. its nicer looking than that silver
ebay has the ds lite, quite a few of them.. most seem to be going about 60 over retail too 4/12/2006 11:17:58 AM |

Cool video on flashing your DS.

That video may be cool and all (I didn't really watch all of it) but there's really no reason to risk bricking your DS by flashing it anymore. The only reason you would ever want to flash a DS in the past would be to avoid having the bulky passthrough devices sticking out the bottom, but now that you can buy a passthrough device for $20 that is the exact same size of a DS cart, I just don't see the reward being anywhere close to the risk involved. Last I heard about one in three DS Lite Flashes result in a bricked DS unit. 6/21/2006 9:06:43 AM |

flashing a ds lite is easy.
roll up some tinfoil, wrap electrical tape around everything but the very tip. Insert in hole. 100% complete, you have new firmware.
it is very worth it, considering you can use a M3 with it. They use SD cards instead of internal memory like a lot of DS cards, which means storage is practically unlimited. 6/21/2006 9:10:39 AM |

This has to be a joke, but I'm missing the funny.

I won't disagree that having an M3 is worth it, as that's what I'm currently using with my DS Lite, however I still say that flashing your DS isn't worth the risk. I have a Max Media Launcher that goes in the DS game slot, and aside from seeing a 1 second Max Media logo when I boot up the DS, I'd never know it was there.6/21/2006 9:28:38 AM |

So I just bought a DS Lite. If I wanted to run games/apps/etc... off a flash card on it, something like this : http://pspgear.biz/shop/product_info.php/products_id/507?osCsid=58cdebf0d70074d20288d3f4889fd883
would be all i need?

Yep. although the unit you linked to appears to be HUGE. They are making flash carts specially designed to fit flush with the DS Lite. It fact ez4 already has one out that takes microSD cards, however I'd recommend waiting for the offering from M3 which should come out shortly.] 6/21/2006 3:25:22 PM |

Yeah, it did seem kinda huge, although I already have a bunch of CF cards lieing around which would make it convenient. Pretty fucking neat gizmo. 6/21/2006 3:31:10 PM |

I have an M3 that takes mini SD cards that stuck out a little bit from the DS 1st gen. It sticks out about half an inch from the DS lite. I didn't think it would bother me too much, but it really drives me crazy. I'm anxiously awaiting the M3 Lite to come out, I just hope they can find a way to get it to take mini SD instead of micro SD.] 6/21/2006 3:35:03 PM |

Quote : | " * Top 13 Changes & Improvements to the DS Lite 13) The volume switch is now white to match the console. * 12) A form-fitted dummy cartridge is included to cover the GBA slot. * 11) The headphone jack is in the same spot, but it is rounded and better looking. * 10) The power switch has been relocated to the right side, is white, and is a slide style on/off switch. * 9) The stylus is larger and is now stored on the right side instead of the top. * 8) The left and right flipper buttons are recessed to form fit the corners, and now provide a tactile click when pressed. * 7) The power and recharge LEDs are now on the top right front corner. * 6) The Start and Select buttons are now underneath the ABXY buttons. * 5) The microphone is now on the center hinge in between the two screens. * 4) A thumb-stylus wrist strap isn't included with the DS Lite (I never used that thing anyway). There is still a loop if you want to attach your own wrist strap. * 3) The original DS used a 5.2V 1.6W battery. The new DS battery is rated at 5.2V 2.3W. * 2) The AC adapter connection on the DS Lite has been redesigned, and uses a different connector that isn't compatible with GBA or older DS power adapters. It is now called the "External Extension Connector." * 1) The DS Lite has a brighter screen & 4 different screen brightness settings! " |

pretty much just minor things. the things they changed werent that bad for most ppl (vs say, the xbox controller vs controller s). definately worth it if buying new, but i wouldnt bother trading unless it cost 20 or less. 6/21/2006 4:26:12 PM |

^ That is the same thing that I thought until I went to Best Buy and played with the one on demo. Def worth the trade off in any case. 6/21/2006 5:55:00 PM |

yeah, I didn't even bother to trade in mine. I kept the old one and gave it to my dad. After he saw the DS Lite he gave back my 1st gen and went out and bought a Lite of his own. 6/21/2006 5:56:42 PM |

no, no jokes in my post.
It really is that easy to flash a DS Lite.... By flashing you can remove all the nag screens, etc. too.
it is not risky... 6/22/2006 8:17:42 AM |

^If you flash it what are the chances that when the Wii comes out you'll have trouble getting them to work together. 6/22/2006 7:29:22 PM |

I finally watched that flashing video. That is a metric asston of work to get rid of the health warning screen when you boot it up. And you still have to have access to a passme device.
With the passme3 being $20, there is no reason to risk flashing your unit. I hadn't even thought about causing trouble with the Wii, but that's another good reason not to flash. 6/22/2006 8:00:36 PM |

i definately did not buy a ds to anything other than play games. psp fans that like all of that 'cool' stuff are complete idiots because they want to find every reason the psp is better then the ds when the fact of the matter is that whatever anybody has they are obviously satisfied with it. 6/23/2006 1:08:53 PM |

So I have a DS lite and love it, but I would love to be able to watch movies and listen to music and crap on it. So would: http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?products_id=8970
and
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820211319
be a good idea?
and other than the size, what is the difference between that and the more premium ones like the M3 and Supercard? http://www.divineo.cn/cgi-bin/div-cn/ds-m3lmsdp.html http://www.modchipman.com/supercard-lite-combo-superkey-supercard-lite-and-reader-p-1148.html

^^There have been known to be compatibility issues with the "lesser known" flash carts. There's a reason why M3 and supercard are twice as expensive. Check out some DS forums for compatibility lists for anything that you are considering buying. If I were you I'd drop the extra money on the M3 lite or Supercard Lite. My dad has one, and I have the regular M3 mini (which sticks out half an inch) and IMO, it's worth every penny to get the Lite version. 8/26/2006 10:57:18 PM |

Yeah I was thinking about that, the only problem is they dont make microSD in larger than 1 gig yet, so I would only be able to carry around maybe a movie and 30-40 songs.
How big are DS game roms anyway? 8/26/2006 11:05:39 PM |

Average game runs 16 MB or so. Some larger, some smaller. I think the biggest I've seen is 128MB and some of the smaller ones are only 1MB. 8/26/2006 11:08:49 PM |
