55+ new songs, a co-op mode with distinct rhythm and lead parts, etc.

Awesome sauce.

Judging from the videos on IGN, here are confirmed songs:

Strutter as made famous by Kiss
John the Fisherman as made famous by Primus
YYZ as made famouse by Rush
War Pigs as made famous by Black Sabbath
Who Was in My Room Last Night as made famouse by the Butthole Surfers

Also confirmed, but not nailed down yet:

A song by The Reverand Horton Heat (I think Big Red Rocket of Love)
And a currently unseen, unheard, and only briefly mentioned "Van Halen song"

I went to a convention near Baltimore last week and the lead artist for this game was the special speaker, looks like the game is gonna rock, they have gone to some great lengths to keep it fun and improve it overall. I would recommend waiting for the 360 version for those who have one, they are including some extra features with it and of course it is gonna look a lot better.

i think you really ought to be able to import your own songs, or program your own notes or something.

That would hurt sales a lot. The Internet community would have guitar notes posted for virtually every song in existence within months.

HOLY SHIT check out these new tracks:

Quote :
"# Nirvana; "Heart-Shaped Box"
# Primus (original recording); "John the Fisherman"
# Stone Temple Pilots; "Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart
# Anthrax; "Madhouse
# Motley Crue; "Shout at the Devil"
# The Police; "Message in a Bottle"
# The Pretenders; Tattooed Love Boys
# Spinal Tap; "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight
# Heart; "Crazy on You"
# Allman Brothers Band; "Jessica"
# Lynyrd Skynrd; "Freebird"
# Avenged Sevenfold; "Beast and the Harlot"
# Dick Dale; "Misirlou"
# Lamb of God; "Laid to Rest"
# Alice in Chains; "Them Bones"
# Reverend Horton Heat; "Psychobilly Freakout"
# Black Sabbath; "War Pigs"
# KISS; "Strutter"
# Butthole Surfers; "Who Was in My Room Last Night?"
# Van Halen; "You Really Got Me"
# Guns N' Roses; "Sweet Child O'Mine
# The Rolling Stones; "Can You Hear Me Knocking?"
# Rush; "YYZ""

how would that hurt sales? DDR Max (i think it was max) had the option of programming your own steps.

AWESOME.

Extra points for including Spinal Tap, but trem picking "Misirlou" with the controller is going to be a bitch.

^ It would make new games obsolete. Why buy a new game every 18 months when you can have all the great rock songs in the world (with original recordings no less) free from the web? I think it works for DDR because the music sucks and the steps are arbitrary so no one bothers making a big effort to put together new stuff.

one could also argue that the "notes" in guitar hero are arbitrary.

i dunno.

They're only arbitrary to the point of how realistic you can be with a five button guitar controller.

The steps in DDR are completely arbitrary. Now, if you wanted to put Temptations songs on there you could put real steps, but that would piss off all the smelly kids who wish they were Japanese.

If we're talking about programming your own notes, that wouldn't hurt sales with Guitar Hero, although there probably would be an issue since missing a note actually affects how the song sounds. DDR has had "Edit Mode" ever since Max.

What you described ealier though is more the equivalent of the program "StepMania", which is DDR knockoff that lets you upload your own songs and steps.

I've never seen the game. What's all the hype about? What advantages does it have over, say, playing a real guitar?

for people who don't want to put all the effort of actually learning to play into it. also it's much easier to see a note coming and press a button than to read tab or sheet music. also it's a lot of fun, especially when drunk.

I am so psyched that YYZ is in this. My girlfriend is a lifelong Rush fan, and I think this might just be the gateway to get her into more video games.

Im a tard, didnt see this thread.

at any rate, got the demo. it rocks. Comes with Shout At the Devil, Strutter, You Really Got Me, and YYZ. Fun as hell.

Can't wait to see this game with co-op play. I think playing the bass line in YYZ has got to be fun. esp. tag team.

Seems the demo is in the new issue of PSM

I got this link from a GameFAQs message board, take it for what it is:

http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2006/10/05/guitar-hero-ii-38-new-songs-revealed-by-mtv.htm

Quote :
"MTV’s Overdrive game site show G-Hole got a preview of Guitar Hero II for the PS2, which is due November 7th in the U.S. It looks like MTV wasn’t supposed to share nearly all the song names they saw though, and probably after a firm warning from developer Harmonix, they were quick to remove/sensor all the new Guitar Hero II songs from the video. Lucky for us, Guitar Hero II forumer Rhino4evr wrote all the new song (making a total of 38 songs out of 55 now!) names down and guessed the most likely artists. List here!

Opening Licks:
Strutter - Kiss
Mother - Danzig
Monkey Wrench - Foo Fighters
Shout At The Devil - Motley Crue
Tonight I’m Gonna Rock You Tonight - Spinal Tap

Amp-Warmers:
Heart Shaped Box - Nirvana
Message In A Bottle - Police
Woman - Wolfmother (artist not confirmed)
You Really Got Me - Van Halan (Kinks)
Carry On Wayward Son - Kansas

String Snappers:
Surrender - Cheap Trick
Them Bones - Alice in Chains
Search and Destroy - Stooges (artist not confirmed, but it damn well better be the stooges!)
Tatooed Love Boys - The Pretenders
War Pigs - Sabbath

Thrash and Burn:
Cherry Pie - Warrant
Who Was In My Room Last Night - Butthole Surfers
Girlfriend - Darkness (artist not confirmed), some say Mathew Sweet
Can’t You Hear Me Knocking - Rolling Stones
Sweet Child of Mine - GnR

Return of the Shred:
Killing In The Name - Rage Against The Machine
John The Fisherman - Primus
Freya - Sword (artist not confirmed)
Bad Reputation - (too hard to say, my guess is Thin Lizzy, but could be Joan Jett)
Jessica - Allman Brothers

Relentless Riffs:
Crazy On You - Heart
Trippin On A Hole In A Paper Heart - STP
Rock This Town - Stray Cays
Last Child - Aerosmith
Stop - Janes Addiction (artist not confirmed, but I really hope it’s Janes Addiction.)

Furious Fretwork:
Madhouse - Antrhax

Already confirmed songs:
Hangar 18 - Megadeth
Laid to Rest - Lamb of God
Misirlou - Dick Dale
Beast and the Harlet - Avenged Sevenfold
Freebird - Lyn Skyn
YYZ - Rush.
Psychobilly Freakout - Rev Horton Heat

That’s 38 Songs announced. There are only supposed to be 40 liscensed songs, plus 15 bonus songs. That only leaves two songs left to be announced. "

may or may not have been mentioned at some point, but if you want to download a similar game for free with not as many songs (but you can make your own, although its hard) and look really stupid at work or in the computer lab:

Just got the demo, kicked YYZ's ass on expert. w00t!

The three finger chords kinda took me by surprise, though.

My roommate failed a song and it said "Make sure you have GH controller plugged into port 1."
