in that other thread sober said:

"its a shame that trey and mike are playing with the duo....imo, the duo always has to hold back when they have guests playing with them. they are much better alone."

i watched the bonnaroo cast and they were pretty good. never seen them alone so i cant rightfully say if theyre better or worse or what not but ive always been a fan of the idea of "the more instruments the merrier". i love mm&w, but when you throw in john scofield that shit is hot. and after a couple years off it will be nice to hear trey live again. regardless of what you think of phish in their last few years, theres still a small bit of sentimentality there.

i havent heard that set yet, but ive heard good reviews about it. im speaking strictly from what ive heard with the duo and guest artists....particularly with mike. he played a handful of shows with them, and it was great for the duo because it gave them a lot of exposure, but music wise, i would rather listen to them alone....they just don't "lock" as well with mike.

that being said, im not a big fan of guest musicians anyway. its a fun novelty here and there, but the music usually suffers as a result. chemistry is a big part of a band...especially in an improv setting, and anytime you have an outsider come in, that chemistry usually doesn't hold up as well.

i agree with you in most cases with some exceptions (scofield and mmw, keller with sci). they seemed to lock pretty well to me but like i said, that bonnarro set is the only thing i have to go by and im still very excited about this show.

dont forget that moe.'s percussionist began as a guest musician as well. in most cases it is a novelty, but sometimes it just badass (moe. biscuits from the first bonnaroo)

i'm in a predicament...
i have to be at sharron harris power plant all day and i can't leave until 4 p.m.
that puts me back at state around 4:30 - 4:45 (at the earliest)
i have to go back to state first then i can leave from there almost immediately

the show says it starts at 4:00 p.m.
i should be in my seat around 5:30 (i think?)
will i be missing much?
should i sell my ticket?

I saw the Duo at Langerado in 2005 down here in Florida. They were fun and all, but I agree they weren't as good as when I saw them the first time alone

^ eh? how did you figure that out? I mean, is there any publicity on who will play in what sequence?

I too may not be able to get there at 2:30 in the frickin' pm when doors open. Show starts at 4? WTF? Even if trey headlines (which I hope he isn't), 2 hours back from 11 = 9; - 30 minutes intermission; 8:30 - 2 hours = 6:30'ish for PAF to play? benerusso duo should be the first act, right?

I'm hopin' that if i get there at 5:30ish i won't be late for PAF, i could give a shit less about trey and the benerusso duo...

phil's set was amazing
his set alone was worth the price of admission

i was highly dissapointed by trey, mike, and benevento/russo duo
they had some decent jam sessions but nothing like what i expected it would be

actually i was very impressed by trey and mike

they played a bunch of stuff that i only half-way recognized (as in ive heard this once before somewhere) but the intensity really picked up right in the middle of the show

well i guess not really impressed, but more impressed than i thought i'd be

Anyone know where to find a recording of the show? I had to leave about 20 minutes into the Trey, Mike and the Duo's set.

my favorite part was seeing trey on again. I didn't like the song choices as I really don't like his solo material too much but damnit if he wasn't hitting everything like he should. Maybe I had just gotten used to Trey playing sloppy.
