I got mine. Not posting the check as I took that sucker to bank asap. ($198.00). For those of you who don't know back in 2002, Paypal was taken to court over locking accounts because of scammers claiming they didn't get the item and other bullshit reasons. Hundreds of people including myself even showed them proof, including a tracking number, proof of address, and even phone numbers.
Paypal still locked our accounts. I was able to withdraw all the payments and block withdrawals by paypal from my bank accounts. Each and every one I had a name, address, phone number and tracking number for. I even made sure the address on the paypal account was the same as I was sending the items to. Paypal still locked my account.
I immediately joined up with this lawsuit... the $198 is the settlement fee paypal had to pay out to all of those involved. If you had money being held by paypal that was also added to the check. Paypal even today is still not very secure. Google's pay system is going to obliterate paypal. Here's a pic of my letter!

I've been selling (with volume) for years and have never had a serious problem.

^ HAAAHAHAHA you think
I sold a car amplifier on eBay about 2 years back and the guy (with great feedback, btw, like 200+ positives) paid w/ PayPal. I shipped the amp, and about 2-3 weeks later PayPal yanks the cash back saying the guy paid w/ a "fraudulent credit card".
The guy got no penalty, PayPal got my money, guy got my amp, I got ripped off. Paypal won't do a DAMN thing.
PayPal rocks if you're the buyer; hell, you could buy something, get it, say it's farked, and get your money back while being a complete lair. But if you get screwed as the seller, you'll remain that way.
BTW, I haven't received my check for this very claim through the suit

^Did you even read/abide by the sellers protection policy. if you had you wouldnt have lost your money.
theres a few ins and outs, but the basic run down is you have to ship to a buyers confirmed address and carry delivery confirmation...and if its over $200 or so you get signature confirmation. if you follow the policy, you don't get fucked. the system works if you read it and follow it. 6/30/2006 2:02:12 PM |

Yeah, considering about half of my buyers DON'T have a verified address (And I mean c'mon, that crap is gay anyway...sometimes I want crap shipped to an address different than the one on record).
So if they win & pay and I realize they don't have a verified address, what's my options? Refund, explain it all out, ask eBay for my fee money back (Takes forever), and relist? That sucks.
I bold in my auction terms I only accept payments from people w/ verified addresses, but people don't read. People are stupid. Ya win some and lose some, but avoiding PayPal is a good way to avoid losses. 6/30/2006 2:32:24 PM |

My experience was back in 2002 BEFORE Ebay bought paypal and actually started to abide by it's own policies. Thus why there was a HUGE lawsuit and paypal lost like a mofo. Here's the website.
http://www.settlement4onlinepayments.com/
Check it out. The true effect this had for me is that paypal could not place any claims on my credit record for debt which they wanted to do originally but this lawsuit had put a temporary hold on.
I refuse to use paypal because they still use the same poor policy they had prior. Though they may actually follow said policy since being acquired from ebay i don't trust them for shit. I'm out of the selling business anyway so it's a moot point. I won, they lost, go me.

I sell laptops, lcds desktop computers etc (scam central) and its pretty rare that someone sends me a payment w/o a confirmed address. if they do, i refund payment and ask them to send me a payment with a confirmed address, or pay via a money order. even with all the high doller stuff i sell time to time, i've never had a problem. the policy works, you just have to follow it.6/30/2006 2:52:20 PM |

Okay, I'm glad you've had a good experience, but http://www.paypalsucks.com exists for a reason. They were sued (and lost) for a reason. Everyone that has ever been scammed once by them wishes the worst upon them. For a reason.
Of course I still use PayPal because it's the currency of choice on eBay, but I don't like it. The fact that you have to send to a "Confirmed Address" is retarded. On Amazon.com, one of the world's largest e-tailers, I can send the package to Mike Morris in Alaska and it never checks anything. It just works.
PayPal shifts the blame of fraud and stuff to the buyer instead of taking it upon itself; therein lies the part that pisses people off. 6/30/2006 4:03:54 PM |

It's not retarded at all. It protects them/you from people using hacked/phished accounts to buy stuff using credit cards and having it shipped to different adresses.
All you have to do to get an address verified is to have a credit card that the billing adress matches that shipping address. I have NEVER sent anything worth more than $50 to a non-confirmed address, because I find it kind of odd when a person who does not have a matching billing address is buying a $300 cell phone on ebay.
As a seller all you have to do is offer your non-verified buyers the option of paying with a money order and that covers your ass. Anyone paying electronically should be able to get their shipping address confirmed.7/1/2006 12:42:17 PM |
