Jordan Lake, New Hope Overlook

I'm going to have to hike in the firewood about 1/3 of a mile, which will be a bitch, but it'll be worth it not to have to listen to screaming kids at the family campgrounds.

Should be good weather tonight, too, 65 and low humidity

Oh man, when I camped at Raven Rock this past spring, the nearest campsites were 2 miles from the parking lot. And I like comfort camping...
We had to make 3 trips from the car to the campsite to get an aerobed, 2 cases of beer, groceries, a cooler, backpacks, sleeping bags, water, camping chairs, the tent, a small propane grill (we didn't know there'd be a partial grate over the fire pit).
We were too lazy to carry it all back to the car when the weekend was over, so we lied and told a ranger I had an asthma attack and he drove down to the campsite to get our stuff and drove it back up to the lot for us.

Why the fuck did you even leave the house?

You people need to go out in the woods for a week or more with everything you need on your back. Then you can bitch about "camping".

Like I said, comfort camping. I had fun, and it was the second time I ever camped in my whole life. I know it's not "real" camping, but who cares, it was a good time.

isn't camping where you actually leave civilization and try to get away from it, instead of bringing it with you?

We camped by Pine Knoll Shores before the Aquarium opened back up last year, it was nice and quiet and hardly anyone was there. About rolled into the marsh though from the tent.

What are the best places in the Great Smokies to camp?

I don't know about the Great Smokies, but Shining Rock Wilderness in Pisgah National Forest south of Ashville is my favorite place to camp in NC.

shining rock is great. Linville Gorge is also amazing (and closer)
Panther Gap is considered the Yosemite of the southeast
A nice leisure hike (least if you do it in 2 nights 3 days) with lots of waterfalls would be the horsepasture river that runs into lake jocassee.
