I just got a V3m Razor from verizon and wanna use some of the features that verizon limits/makes u pay for.

There are tons of forums and info out there about hackin it, but most ones I've seen say you can not restore it to factory default (thus voiding warranty).

Only things I really want is bluetooth obj transfer, mp3 player and allowing me to set my own ringtones.

Anyone here done this and still been able to restore to factory default? If not, has anyone successfully applied new firmware and can point me to the website(s) that you followed? I don't wanna follow some random forum and f*ck my phone up and not be able to get it back to orig. thx

good luck man...i hate these damn phone companies taking features that would make a phone decent and then screwing over its customers

if you succeed in whatever you set out to do, post links/steps/etc., would you?

i have 2 v3m's and all you need is the motorola phone tools (you can find i'm sure) and a basic usb charging cable (USB-to-miniUSB)

ok, so it doesn't unlock the BT, but at least you can sync music

ok so I got everything I wanted and more - no firmware update (and no voiding the warranty - well not really).

All I had to do was to "seem" edit. Seem edit is basically using a hex editor to flip some bits to enable the some of the cool features that verizon dicked you out of.

Here is what you need to follow - remember this is only for verizon razor V3m. It WILL void your warranty - but if you back up your original seem (the seem edit tool will do this) you can restore it before you bring into verizon and complain about something

Before you can even begin, as Prospero said, you will need the Motorola phone tools. You can "buy" it online. Then buy a usb to miniUSB cable.

Ok first the seem edit tutorial. This will enable obex transfer (so u can copy shit to your phone), Transflash transfer (so you can copy shit to your 1GB max miniSD card on your phone), vibrate then ring, and a bunch of other stuff if you wish.
>>Seem editing for dummys: http://forum.osnn.net/showthread.php?t=84930

Once you finish that and wanna find out what other seem edits are available, look here:

Then install/run MPT (motorola phone tools). It didnt detect my phone - so I had to add it manually. V3cm is what its listed as. Then you can transfer over music, pics etc. Wallpapers have to be .jpg and when transfering .mp3's simply rename from .mp3 to .mid then transfer to phone. Music will show up under get it now>get tunes & tones (music you add will b at the bottom of the list).

I've been more than happy with the phone - impressed even. The interface kinda sucks, but thats because its verizon's proprietary shit. Even that can be changed, but it will cost you your warranty as you cant flash back to ver. v3m firmware (at this point). Gettin bluetooth OBEX requires diff firmware as well.

oh one more thing - if you want pics/mp3's/ringers on your phone without messin with any of this, simply sign up for a vzwpix.com account. Then send an email with an attachment to <yournumber>@vzwpix.com - if you want to send a mp3 make sure to rename to .mid before attaching. In minutes you will have a message - press the soft 'options' key and choose save audio. It will go into the 'get tunes & tones', where you can then set as ringtone or just listen to it.

hope this saves some people the time and hastle of changing firmware for no reason.

oh yea one last thing - you can get free WAP, I just haven't had time to mess with it yet. Once I get it working and I find out its not illegal i'll post how I did it.

^ You, my friend have done well. You did some research before hand, you listened to suggestions, and then, once you figured out your problem you posted your solution so that others may be educated. Thank you.

finally had the time to look free WAP. Before you read on make sure u have bout 45 mins to mess with this, its not easy and there is terrible documentation. What this is gonna do is change your vcast browser (make it better) and allow you to use another WAP gateway (currently you are config'd to use verizon's WAP gateway - hence why you have to pay $5/mo if you wanna use urs. This process is going to let you use a free gateway.) It is not illegal to use a free gateway, you can setup your own gateway if you wish (not covered here).

THROUGH THIS ENTIRE PROCESS make sure to BACK UP ALL THE FILES you are overwriting. You've been warned.

Basically all you have to do is follow:
http://mark.cdmaforums.com/Added-Web.htm
then
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=937887

but there are like 10 subsections you have to go down. I will list the problems I ran into:
1) QPST COnfiguration - Adding the port. With your phone connected to the computer (and recognized by the usb drivers).
-right click my computer>properties>hardware>device manager
-Find the Modems section>Motorola Usb modem properties.
-click on the modem tab, note the Port number (mine was COM4). Use that in QPST config when adding new port (use COMX as name and port).

after doing the QPST config, you need to config your V3C to point to the free gateway(gonna use googles proxy server). go to http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=937887 and follow the directions.

then you have to go into your phone and set the default websession. do #073887* from your phone then use 000000 as the password. Select websessions. then select Freebie (and set as default).

and there you go. free internet on your V3M. The freebie proxy is slow. You can setup your own proxy server (then the gateway ip in your websessions config would be the ip of your proxy server). If I ever am feeling in a really nice mood i'll show you how to setup your own HTTP proxy.

Damn son I need to do this on my 8100, except I'll probably just get the Chocolate or a 9800 at cost in the next month or two.

I really need to do this though, since I do fucking sell these phones for a living though I'm not a Verizon employee (indirect sales).

^since you sell phones I got a question for you. The battery on my new V3M (V3c) only lasts a day, and even when I dont talk on it that much. had the phone for 7 days.

I've heard that you are supposed to let li-ion's totally go dead teh first time before charging. is this true? I kinda messed that all up cuz when i was jackin aroudn with my phone the day i bought it, i had it plugged into the usb - and when its plugged in it recharges (it was in for bout 10 mins recharging before i noticed.) Could this have caused the shitty battery life?

Verizon has this 15 day policy where you can bring back the phone and trade for any other phone - I'm gonna go try and get a new battery today. I just wanna prevent this from happening again. thx

my experience concerning the razr batteries is that the OEM ones are a crapshoot...my gf has one and it works fine - it lasts several days on a single charge with moderate use...a friend has a GSM razr and the battery doesn't EVEN last a day...if you get another battery from verizon, it might be just fine...if you have problems, consider buying a non-OEM battery from ebay or something

as for lithium-ion batteries, you'll find conflicting reports on teh intarweb, but i've always had good luck with draining them nearly to empty before recharging...Li-Ion batteries don't carry a memory, but it just seems logical that keeping it fully charged (or allowing it to drain completely) would kill cells over time...i can't see how allowing it to drain before its "first" charge (as it's been charged before leaving the factory to ensure that it works) would make a difference...i've heard the same thing, though

I work for Telpage, a little communications company that serves Emporia, Roanoke Rapids, South Hill and the lake areas. Just three offices, but we do dial-up internet, DSL, and wireless internet from our own radio towers. We also own like 2 dozen towers for cellular and other shit. Plus we do computer repairs and sell 2-way radios, pagers, and setup police/fire/EMS equipment.

Rynop, they come with a half charge and I have not been told to let them go dead before you charge up. My 8100 has a Li-Ion and charged it the first day with a half charge up to full strength with the home charger. Now if you use the car chargers a lot it'll fuxor the battery up some. I have heard that the Razr phones supposedly don't hold a charge that long anyways, but I can't say personally since I have not owned one myself. But that is what I have heard from the other people I work with.

thx for responses. Yea the idea behind li-ion is no memory, so ive always wondered if the theory about draining it entirely was BS. I'm gonna return and let it drain all the way the 1st time - cant hurt i figure and cant get worse than it is now.
