Did everyone see that run by brown in which he sent the opposing tackler flying like 10yds backwards?? That was some sweet highlight material right there. I told ya he was one of my favorite athletes here, and it shows. I think we're gonna dominate the ACC this year.

Look at it like this:
1)The ACC overall is weak compared to previous years
2)This year is probably one of our most youngest talented teams
3)We have the best back in the ACC
4) Our defense is stacked, especially in the secondary. Our secondary is no long our achilles heel.

Those are mighty strong factors we got on our side. The only team(s) I see challenging us are GT and Clemson. We're gonna beat fsu again this year

This has got to be a joke. You cannot win games without a QB - right now we have a wannbe Mike Vick running the show.

Ofcourse he has his flaws. But its what you don't see which makes him good. He dosn't turn the ball over. When he gets comfortable in the backfield, you're going to see some good plays.

Like that play he made last year against BC in the opening drive.

^^^

You mean the play where Stone just threw the ball as far as he could and was fortunate that Brian Clark was a foot taller than the BC defender who fell over and then Brian ran all the way for the TD....then Stone proceeded to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING the rest of the game???? That one????

you mean like when he fumbled the ball, or do you mean like when he threw the pick? Although that was a nice catch for the pick.

um, yeah, our offense is. We can split-back all we want, but if we have no threat from behind center, our offense will continue to be as anemic as it was against a I-AA opponent like Appalachian State.

How about when he rammed A.J Nickleson to the ground. Not many qbs' can do that. He has potential, and this year he will be better.

The int was a bad mistake. He failed to look where he was throwing the ball as soon as he got it. Those pass plays are more easily picked off anyways.

He has the ability to throw on the run, which will ultimately provide the recievers more time to defeat their coverage and create big plays.

Then this will make the run more feasible with a great rb like brown. I can go on for days.

you have to be the most optomistic fan ever. i can't imagine how you think we're gonna "dominate the ACC this year" after watching our QB throw for ~30 yards against a 1AA opponent.

we could be decent...but i don't know how you could glean us being dominant that from the opening game.

listen guys, if you have no credible knowledge of the sport of football, then this isn't the place for you. Ive studied the sport for years now and I have recognized patterns and our current situation falls nowhere outside of my parameters.

Your pessimism and lack of support can be used on a UNC forum. You have to have patience in this sport. I would love to see any of you fulfill his position in that short period of time given the circumstances.

Is the total yardage amount his problem? Or a problem with the offensive scheme being ineffective like it has been before Stone? It was even criticized in the Rivers era. And 6 games are not alot.

^calm down. Theres no need to be startled by a football conversation.

6 games isn't a lot of time?

Rivers put up like 300 yards passing several times. You obviously don't know what you are talking about. I'd kill to have that same offense.

I don't recall him doing that several times. But he was a "program guy" (similar to how sims was used at Texas Tech)so you might be correct. His senior year he was a sideline to sideline passer, and he was criticized for this.

That happens in every pass play in the game of football. This is the exact reason why they repeatedly watch film for hours in practice.

Let's do some math here....

Philip Rivers' Career Passing Yardage... 13,582
Philip Rivers' Career Games Played... 51

13,582/51 = 266.3 Yds/G AVERAGE

Okay, now take the same pass results and divide them by plays. And create a pass to run ratio, and then give me the results.

to be fair nobody elses qb in the acc is a heck of alot better. wright is the only one alot more talented but we dont play them. wf qb is out and every other qb is brand new or sucks. stone is better than drew weatherford. (who is just lucky to have 5 peter warricks on his team)

10 win season comin up!

But I want to know how many pass plays we called with him under center. So I can reveal to you that he was a "program guy" and we had mainly a passing offense, even with the good backs we've had.

My point; if we pass the majority of the time, you're destined to have close to that many yards per game.

^ My point exactly

I meant symons yeah, my bad. Or Kingsbury. They were both stat padders, including Riv.

Now, take about half of those 1620 rush attempts and subtract them b/c they were either screen passes that got documented as rushes. Now that leaves you at, lets say 810. Yeah , looks pretty balanced to me.

what about the 04, 05 years?

YOU GUYS TAKE THAT STUFF WAAAYY SERIOUSLY AROUND HERE!!

its simple things like this that override your ability to effectively discuss sports on this forum. What needs to be questioned is your lack of support for our football team.
