Then we can forget 9/11

I am so sick of the term, "Everything changed after 9/11"

The only fucking thing that changed was that we started to let fear run our lives

And the government of this land has encouraged that to happen

We as a society must remember our four freedoms and most importantly remember the last

Freedom from Fear.

ha

you expect freedom from fear w/ the obvious threat of terrorism still out there? we cant just ignore it and not fear, you fool. we will have to continue to fight for that freedom, until the threat from islamic fascism has been erased.

America is too fucking safety-obsessed.

I never wore a goddamn bike helmet when i was a kid, but if my kids don't have one, i get fined.

At the bottom of this slippery slope will be my grandkids having to wear full body armor to play fucking freeze tag.

Who has let fear run their lives? Noone. Fear is the terrorists goal. Thats the definition of terrorism. It hasnt happened in the US. Has any large majority began altering their daily lives? No. Today, there is a more heightened sense of security, thats the only thing thats changed.

Nah, freeze tag will just be banned entirely because it's too dangerous to let children run around and touch each other. In fact, kids will probably be banned from going outdoors period.

We have to curtail our freedoms and civil liberties until the point that we have no freedoms left to fight for.

I predict Freeze Tag will be banned not due to safety but because whenever a child becomes "it" their self esteem is permanently damaged. The only games kids will be allowed to play in the future will be games in which there are no winners or losers and as we all know, those kinds of games suck ass.

Maybe I'm just weird, but I'm not particularly concerned with being safe. I am, however, very concerned with making certain other people be not safe.

Then again, I've always been motivated by hatred and rage more than anything.

1) who has forgotten 12/7??

2) we do not fear japan anymore for one reason: we defeated them. we went to war...and we defeated them....

in the case of the war against islamic findamentalists...we are not allowed to defeat them....the UN, certain liberals in the US and other nations more concerned with a peace now than a lasting peace later will not allow the US government to do what is necesary to one day live without the threat of violence from islamic fundamentalists.

go ask anyone the importance of December 7th. You'll get blank stares

And we have let fear run our lives.

We have allowed our civil liberties to be stripped under the premise that terrorists may attack us again.

what civil liberties have been stripped in your opinion? and to verify your opinion, list what civil liberties have actually been stripped (ie provide proof).

United States citizens being barred entry into the United States

Illegal searches (bank account information, call monitoring)

An expansion of the no-fly list to include peace activists and members of congress

You cannot be removed from said list.

People being detained without any charges filed against them and no ablity to access the courts

and of course the entire Patriot Act

As someone said, we don't have December Seventh on our minds any more for the simple reason that the enemy that attacked us is defeated. In the years between that date and our victory, you see people acting in much the same way as they are now.

We forgot 12/7 because it was over sixty years ago. I'm sure sixty years from now, 9/11 will be nothing more than a unread chapter in our grandchildren's American history books.

Quote :
"The only fucking thing that changed was that we started to let fear run our lives"

Our society has already long gone down the road of letting fear run our lives. Our children are much safer now than anytime in history yet why as a collective society are we even more paranoid about their safety than we were decades ago?

Quote :
"And the government of this land has encouraged that to happen"

I agree with you there, but it seems to have backfired on them regardless. Otherwise, why is Bush falling into that least popular category and the Republican Party is running around like panicked chickens?

DEAD ON. And you people wonder why I dislike the UN and liberals so much.

What will be lost by not using overwhelming force against terrorists in the middle east? apparently liberals either:

1. think all weapons are bad and should never be used
2. think we'll indescriminately blow up everyone in sight
3. think some poor suicide bomber who wants to kill every christian and jew on the planet deserves "geneva convention rights". This means they only ask for name, rank, etc. NO INTERROGATION, NO THREAT OF SEVERE PUNISHMENT FOR THEIR HEINOUS ACTS.

http://www-fars.nhtsa.dot.gov/

37,862 traffic deaths in 2001. 39,189 last year.

Not to minimize the lives lost on 9/11, but we're radically changing America over a tactic that was about 13% as deadly as the automobile in 2001.

I could contrast the number of deaths on 9/11 with worldwide starvation, or preventable diseases in third world countries, but you get the point.

And we're losing our collective shit over it.

Iraq is sewing seeds of peace as we speak.

Ahah, how exactly do you interrogate a suicide bomber?

But to address your "point," heaven forbid we adhere to our values. Or the agreements we've signed. Or basic ideals of any civilized society.

they are the subject of recent discussions because if is muslim terrorists who, as of late, have made it thier spoken objective to destroy america and our allies israel. so it would seem as though they are the most serious and immediate threat to our lives.

Yes.

Clearly 9/11 and the threat of a bunch of dipshit zealots warrents us abandoning many of the principles our nation holds dear.

And I was was obviously mistaken to think that Iraq is anything but an incubator for peace and harmony throughout the Middle East.

This one dimensional view of race is near proof that you are indeed racist. The person who says its not an issue, when segregation existed just 30 years ago, is insane and extremely racist.
