I have two theories as to why a character has the same first name as the actor that portrays them:

1) The actor is too stupid to respond when they are addressed by their character name.

2) The rest of the cast is too stupid to remember that character name.

Maybe Tina kept calling him Tracy

I'll leave it up to you to figure out which of the two scenarios fit in the case of Rick Schroder on Silver Spoons.

^^^^ It is the same premise. The difference is that the stars of this show have all worked on SNL for years. Whether that will make it consistently good or not is yet to be seen.

I think this show was independently done as a project of Fey's based on her experiences working at SNL. And then she found out that Studio 60 was being produced, was similar to her show, and was being supported by a lot of star players at NBC. So it was a case of no corroboration and coming up with the same result.

Just want to say I love Tina Fey.

I must admit I am hooked on this show, I have only caught it on NBC online though. Tracey Morgan is a trip and I love Tina Fey's character. This is definitly one of the better comedies on the air along with The Office and My Name is Earl.
