GODDAMN

(in a church sanctuary, seated on the pews... all dark except a projector throwing up 70's british porn lead ups... he did this sick thing where instead of playing a song the whole way though, the whole set was one song... and he'd be in the middle of one song, then it'd transition into another, then a third, then back to the first, and the like... nice and circular... and fucking absurd)

animal collective tends to play a whole new set of songs on almost every tour they do. they will probably play one or two strawberry jam songs, but when i saw them in june, they played mostly new stuff. but their new stuff is really electronic and similar to strawberry jam... here is a recording of the show i went to to give you an idea http://www.archive.org/details/acollective2007-05-30

also, they are just fucking awesome live

When I saw AC they played stuff they hadn't even recorded yet, and started out by announcing that everyone would be disappointed that we'd never heard anything they were going to play.

Regardless, it was an amazing show.

an hour

and what up for the Such Great Heights cover!!!

I was presently surprised by Mayer...my bf and I went with my parents, and went for Folds. did not get the blues guitar memo on mayer--I was expecting more Body is a Wonderland shit (which he didn't play). Fucking fantastic show. I'm an immediate fan. Shame on me for not giving him more credit sooner.

pics in my gallery!

Went to the Mayer concert tonight. It was awesome. Ben Folds was awesome.

About Mayer.....his first love is Blues. Over the past few years, after he became established, hes been moving towards all blues. His whole Continuum album was blues. He did a Buddy Guy cover tonight. His blues shit is great.

Ben Folds though, just amazing. When he picked up the synthesized Keyboard or w/e it was and played it.......motherfuck, that was tight.

Its a shame half the teeny boppers there to see Mayer didn't even know you Ben Folds was. The crowd was dead throughout his show.

Nov. 28th - Raleigh, NC - Disco Rodeo

Brand New w/ openers Thrice & mewithoutYou

Couldn't resist this one. It is a bit high ($23.50 each) but all three bands are actually solid, not just the headliner.

september is going to be kinda nutty:

9/6: Mountain Goats @ Cat's Cradle
9/7: The National @ Cat's Cradle
9/11: PB & J @ Cat's Cradle
9/17: Megafaun and Akron/Family @ Pour Haus
9/18: Do Make Say Think @ The Artscenter in Carrboro
9/21: Dan Deacon and Girl Talk @ Orange Peel
9/27: Animal Collective @ Cat's Cradle
9/28: Rilo Kiley @ Orange Peel

I'm not sure if I'm going to the last two, but the rest I'm pretty sure about.

I was hoping Akron/Family would be opening for DMST during their tour.

I have such a busy concert schedule that I'm skipping:
09-06 - Mountain Goats
09-11 - PB&J
09-16 - Interpol
09-21 - Dan Deacon and Girl Talk (I wish this was in the RTP)

9/11 Peter Bjorn & John

9/27 The Animal Collective
10/2 Okkervil River

That's a mighty fine month of music!

TV:
08-20-2007 - New Pornographers - Letterman
08-22-2007 - Blond Redhead (rerun) - Conan

Concerts:
08-22-2007 - Wolf Parade at CC

This is the preamble to the busy concert month of August. Except for Bishop Allen, concert going has been virtually dead for me so this show will be needed to keep me sane until Sept.

Wolf Parade was pretty good but the opening acts weren't exactly my thing. And who saw that that crazy dude in the front row who kept dancing into everyone around him. He grinded up against me at least twice.

Add another show on my busy September month:
John Vanderslice and Bishop Allen at the Duke Coffeehouse on the 21st (spooky just reminded me thats the same night as the Dan Deacon/Girl Talk show but I don't want to go all the way to Asheville for that)

I'm studying in Ireland in the fall and I've been wondering if anybody knows of any good shows going on over there. A lot of the bands I really like are touring here this semester (Okkervil River, Stars, Brand New, Thrice, mewithoutYou, Kevin Devine, Minus the Bear) and I don't get to see any of them. Anyone have any European tour suggestions?

On a related note, I just saw that the Avett Brothers are playing our fucking homecoming. Daughtry and all this other shit and finally a good one when I'm out of the country.

http://www.decemberists.com/tour.aspx

didn't see this posted, but I may have overlooked it.

The Decemberists coming back to NC this fall. 11/06 and 11/07 in Winston-Salem at the Millenium Center.

I would go, if it weren't for the fact that the Millenium Center is one of the worst venues I have ever been in in my entire life. Ugggg. Giant columns in the way, and your choices are to stand somewhere that the band sounds good (but you can't see), or stand somewhere that you can see the band (and they sound like shit).

ETA-- pre-sale for the Decemberists show is at noon, tomorrow August 25th. http://www.decemberists.tickets.musictoday.com.

Damnit.

An indie orgy tonight on Letterman.

From Pitchfork:
Quote :
"catch Feist joined by choir comprised of Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene, Carl "A.C." Newman of the New Pornographers, Aaron Dessner, Bryan Devendorf, and Scott Devendorf of the National, Nicole Atkins, everybody in Grizzly Bear, and both Mates of State."
