so what the F#@#$ was the matrix all about????

from what i gathered colonel sanders created the matrix over and over until he got it perfect, and
there were a bunch of neo's who tried to make it work but failed everytime.

is that right?

what you need to know abut the matrix trilogy:
1. neo is jesus
2. fast forward through scenes in the "real world"

supposedly the philosopher's commentary on matrix revolutions offers a good explanation of the final film, but i never listened to it.

Here's your explanation:

The first one was fairly awesome and had the potential to go lots of ways story-wise, but whoever the hell wrote the story hadn't written anything beyond the end of the first movie. Nobody could have guessed that the movie would become so popular, so the story was never fleshed out in full. But when the public saw the movie and went "OMFG PLZ TO MAKE MORE M@7RIX LOLZ" the people responsible for making the Matrix saw an opportunity to make even more money. So they basically made shit up as they went along because good, quality story takes time, whereas a generic script with little to no consistency or logic to it is quick and cheap. They then crammed in pseudo-philisophical and pseudo-intellectual crap so as to sound "deep," because everyone knows that all the popular and successful movies spout tripe intellectual shit that's suppose to "make you think."

one of my favorite movies i must admit. but yea, still fail to "understand" it.

Matrix 1- Fishbourne breaks it all down to neo. The "matrix" & "the real world". Makes sense pretty much.

fast forward to Matrix 3

You have the architect dude saying how he created everything. Im like really confused. But it is hollywood, im just trying to figure out if they actually wanted logical sense to even be involved in the story outline. They seem like they do.

^well put.

I never understood why they didn't just use cows instead of humans.

Advantages of cows:

1: Same amount of body heat (at least, probably more)
2: Much more docile
3: Grow faster
4: Less intelligent and less likely to rebel
5: How hard can it be to program a computer generated field full of grass?

I guess we wouldn't have an awesome movie (and 2 disappointing movies) if they had done that though.

Here's one thing I've always had trouble with. Morpheus says that the humans are basically a source of energy for the robots, albeit they also have to use fusion. But why not just use fusion alone? Why go to all the trouble of keeping humans alive?

It's not as if the robots can magically produce humans at no cost; it takes energy to make humans. Where do they think our body heat and the electricity for our brains come from? It comes from the food we eat, which was previously some other organism that more than likely also gave off heat and produced electricity. It's basic thermodynamics; the majority of organisms get their energy from plants, who in turn get it from the sun.

But in the movie, the sun has been blocked out by the scorching of the sky, so there's no source of energy to sustain plant growth, and therefore no energy to support organisms further up the food chain. You could make the argument that the robots are using the fusion to somehow make the energy necessary to keep the humans alive, but why bother? Why not just build a fusion plant and make electricity from it directly? Like ^ just said, the AI in this movie is not at all very intelligent.

^^^ thats essentially how, say a steam power plant works. it creates a total amount of power, some of which is used to power itself, the rest is sold/used by other sources. doesnt seem too realistic with humans tho in this situation

i think it's important to point out that they ripped off the plot to the first matrix from someone else, and then made the rest of it up as they went. maybe if the original person had written the rest of the trilogy it wouldn't have sucked so hard.

did you see the people in the "real world" eating beef at all during the movie? or any animals at all besides humans? No sun, no plant life, no cows exist in the "real world". they'd probably been extinct for a long time.

if you remember in the first one, the crew all gathered around eating that tasty wheat stuff which was made up of synthetic proteins, amino acids, and vitamins...."everything the body needs". if they can make their own food without the sun, the machines can too so they don't need the sun to supply energy for a food source.

no, i was talking about this:
Quote :
"On April 24, 2003 Sophia Stewart filed suit against Twentieth Century Fox, Warner Brothers, Joel Silver and the Wachowski Brothers claiming that the stories of The Matrix and Terminator franchises were based on a manuscript she wrote titled "The Third Eye". She allegedly submitted the manuscript to the Wachowskis in response to an advertisement. On October 4, 2004, a California court granted Stewart leave to continue her case. One account misreported the October 4 decision as Stewart winning her lawsuit, rather than simply winning permission to continue with the case. The case was dismissed in June 2005 on the basis that "Stewart and her attorneys had not entered any evidence to bolster its key claims or demonstrated any striking similarity between her work and the accused directors' films".[29]"

The French philosopher, Jean Baudrillard, who's writings helped inspire the movie(s) died this month. Neo hides his contraband software in a copy of one of his books and Morpheus quotes him at one point
"Welcome to the desert of the real."

Here's a link to a great podcast on it.

That lawsuit was dropped and doesn't really prove they stole anything. Supposedly the Matrix rips off some comic called The Invisibles.

True, but why bother with feeding the humans? Using energy to make the humans' food and then re-gathering that energy from the humans is an unnecessary step. A middleman, if you will. Why bother feeding the humans at all when the machines could just extract power directly from fusion? That's my whole point.

Without energy from the sun, the machines would just use fossil fuels. heh. Or fusion or whatever.

It really doesn't make sense why they would raise humans.

I must have missed something...

Neo has to eventually make it to the Architect to essentially reboot the matrix. To do this he has to use the keymaster guy. Meanwhile the agents of the matrix are hellbent on killing the keymaster guy - which would make Neo's visit to the Architect impossible.

Also, what if Neo died in the real world? Wouldn't the Architect be sol?

Plus... the third movie was so bad that it made the first matrix suck.

I remember waaay back before revolutions came out there was a post on some random board about how some guy came up with the idea that Neo was actually the first robot to have human emotion, and that the entire trilogy was a role reversal: robots were humans and the humans were robots...

I like thinking thats how the trilogy ended and that we werent all duped.

why did they need the matrix again?

why couldn't they just scoop out most of the brain and leave the human body to make power without a massive simulation that had the capability of destroying them?

In the first movie, they say that the humans in the power farms were fed with the ground up remains of other humans. The problem is it would take more than one dead human to feed each human in the new generation. So each generation the machines can raise fewer and fewer humans and eventually they'd be down to nothing.

i'd assume because the human bodies somehow converted the energy from the fusion into the type of energy the machines needed the most efficiently.

I thought at one point in revolutions that they were sitting around a table eating steak? Last time I checked wasn't steak=beef=cow? So I guess somewhere in the "matrix" there were farmers...who raised cows...which would have been a better energy source than humans...
