Being a person with no religious affiliation, I have on occasion wondered the answer to this question.

All I really know about is "they killed Jesus". But wasn't that supposed event just as much Roman as it was Jew.

Please relieve me of my ignorance.

I'll bet most people that readily admit they hate jews don't know why, per se.....they hate them because they were influenced to hate them by others of a similar view.

perhaps, but we are drawn to people similar to ourselves (in the case or religion/culture/race/etc). hate might be a bit much, but there will be more of a distrust or resistance to people unlike ourselves, even if we werent taught to dislike them outright.

The more immediate response is because Hitler (and many conservative Germans post-WWI) believed that the bankers were responsible for "forfeiting" the war to the Americans, and as a result, the horrible economic situation for Germany. And since, at the time in Germany, literally almost all bankers were Jews (it had something to do with no one trusting anyone but the Jews with handling money, I don't remember why, but this is where the stereotype comes from) Hitler blamed the Jews for everything, and this is why the Holocaust happened.

Before that, the Crusades had all of these European Catholics against the Jews who "killed Jesus".

It's all about messiahs and monies.

Historically jews were the only bankers who could issue loans due to christian opposition to committing usury - this was a lightning rod for criticisms from the church and led to the genesis of the jewish banker stereotype.

For a very long time the reason for hating Jews was the idea that they "Did not have a country." This is much the same reason that people hated gypsies. They were always, invariably, a minority in whatever country they inhabited. More importantly, in the eyes of the anti-semites, they were always, invariably parasites.

That is to say, since they aren't part of any country -- even if they've been living in one for generations -- the only reason they could possibly be staying there is because it is profitable for them, right? A German stays in Germany because he's German, but a Jew stays in Germany because it has some tangible benefit for him.

I've probably done a poor job explaining it, but that's because it is a very silly idea that does not lend itself to explanation through rational terms.

This is why the Jews, like the Rom, were always considered outsiders regardless of how long they'd been in a place. Both groups were also subsequently the center of much superstition, and their "parisitic" nature meant that they were both associated with some type of thievery -- Jews, through manipulating banks and loans through the dark magic of "math" and "accounting," and Gypsies by running scams and picking pockets.

Also, you can't forget that Israel (contrary to popular belief, only 3/4 of which is Jewish) is still in a feud with Palestine over the "true" owner of the land. This can explain a lot of the hatred towards Jews outside of the West.

They use to be (still are?) banned by country clubs, and I personally know of an older couple that doesn't like Jews.

I think it has to do with their self-imposed isolation. The very thing that saved their culture condemns them.

After being transported to Babylon they saved their culture through dietary restrictions. If you can't eat with someone, you can't get to know them - and certainly you can't intermarry.

The simple answer is, people are assholes. Dicks, bastards, fuckers, taint-munches, anus-lickers, etc.

The point is, people suck. They need only the most tenuous reason to hate any particular group. They cling to the above-mentioned reasons as a "rational" excuse for anti-semitism, and run with it.

Don't worry, we'll shoot the lot of them when the time comes.
