The earliest Big Muffs (the triangle knob versions) were in a small case because the staggered pots allowed it to be narrower. As EH started making more products, they used three generic case sizes (the Small Stone size, the big hexagonal Memory Man size, and the Electric Mistress size) to reduce costs, and even with staggered pots the Muff CB was a little too big for the Small Stone case.

ha, I have a Big Muff that I bought a loooong time ago (probably back when I was a teenager, like 10-12 years ago). I didn't even know what it was at the time. It's the version with the black metal case, than comes packaged in a wooden box (I think that's the Russian-produced one, but I can't remember for sure)

I mostly play guitar-into-amp, but I do use a Big Muff and a Vox wah.

yes the black ones are russian. and yes I generally have hated distortion pedals and gone with tube distortion, but the big muff can give me the chance to get some different sounds on the record i think. we'll see though. at worst I have wanted one to mess around with pumpkins sounding stuff for awhile anyways.

Right now i'm between getting this FJA modded 5150 or a Madison Divinity II, really wish i could play the divinity before i buy it, though i've never heard anything bad about them plus it has an incredible clean channel.

Anyone have any experience with a Peavy VYPYR? I've got a Peavey Bandit 112 Solo Series with no effect pedals and was thinking about an upgrade.

haha. After a few years with 60 on my bottom string (dropped to 56 a little bit ago but still) normal E strings feel like toys. I'm not sure what I'll do once I start playing in standard in the future again because it will be a weird adjustment

is there any "reader" type version of guitar pro? powertab is ok but really lacks when you compare it to guitar pro. We had bought guitar pro 4 and had it on a computer that died and haven't been able to get it back. I really don't feel like buying it again but if I buy guitar pro 5 I don't want to buy multiple copies when we only need 1 computer to be able to actually make the tabs.

I'll have to see how many machines we can install it on because ideally we want it on my computer, our other guitar players computer, and our bass player's computer to help out with some new parts. And I can't remember if the trial version lets you open files and just not write to them or what.

especially since you already bought a copy before

a lot of the time it seems that powertab will have the better tab to me but yea guitar pro is way better and doesn't crash every time I do something else

both of them have made learning guitar so much easier for me

nah I don't have reservations against it especially since we bought it in the past. I just havent done any torrenting in a few years now. I'll see what I can find though because that is probably the easiest thing if one is easily available out there hah.

and yea, guitarpro is much much easier to actually write tabs in as opposed to just viewing (in which case I use powertab plenty). Powertabs is great for what it is and i've used it for years just reading tab files i've downloaded but is just a pain to actually make tabs in imo.

and I agree, they are both very helpful

^ yea powertab is fine for very basic stuff. chord progressions in the same tempo and time signature etc. But if you start changing tempos, time signatures, a lot of lead noodling instead of just chord progressions powertab becomes quite a pain - or at least just time consuming. Obviously some people have gotten pretty efficient I guess as I have seen some technical songs in powertabs but the few songs of ours we have tabbed out in the past, guitarpro was a lot faster to use in comparison. If you're not planning to use it for an entire album in a short period of time then powertabs gets the job done.

I was looking for something silly to do, so I used a hardtail Strat bridge to convert my Duo-Sonic to a string-through setup. Added a nice little thump to the sound, especially with the bridge pickup. I still might wedge a P-90 into the middle, though. I love me some short-scale guitars, and this one is really growing on me with the new configuration.

The coolest/weirdest thing happened to me today.

I haven't touched my guitar in five years. I used to have a band in college and we played all over the raleigh area, etc. It was fun, but when we graduated we broke up becaue we moved away, got busy, etc. Since then i completely lost my desire to play guitar. I touched a guitar maybe twice in 5+years.

Today the itch came back.. i've been playing for an hour and my fingers are killing me. bahaha.

I'm moving to Boston soon and need a small practice amp since i'll be in an apartment. No more cranking my awesome Marshall 18watter.

Theyre getting pretty awesome reviews for a little amp. It has a solid state modeling preamp with a "tube" power amp. 1x8" combo. $200

Also i'm maybe considering a Blackstar HT-5 (http://www.guitarcenter.com/Blackstar-HT-Series-HT-5H-5W-Tube-Guitar-Amp-Head-483560-i1434795.gc)

This amp is pretty badass. Its all tube, 2 chan, and has a speaker simulator for use with headphones or recording directly. I also already have a 2x12" cab i could use with it until i got something smaller. Its $300 for the head, $400 as a 1x10" combo. But i have concerns about it being too loud so maybe i should just keep it simple and cheap with the VT15.

Feeler: Anyone interested in a Ampeg 2x12" guitar cab w/ Celestion speakers? I'll get it and find the model/specs later.

I TS808ifified my TS-9 tubescreamer. I used a much nicer opamp, new caps, and redid the output circuitry. sounds awesome. I'd recommend doing that to anyone with a non TS808 TS. Its cheap and easy.

I've built a few clones for friends. You can find the schematic and PCB for anything. There was even a guy in Cary who made and sold the PCBs. Solder up some parts on the PCB and throw it in a metal box with a footswitch. done and done.

I'll asume you're a SRV fan (I am too) but I check into some of the DVD's that
Robben Ford has put out. He has been around a LONG time and is one of the best players out there. You can get a couple of them on netflix if you have that.
Anyway, work on your blues chords and RYTHM first. Then go into the scales and leads and stuff.

I just downloaded a copy of guitar pro and found a torrent that had like 12,000 guitar pro tabs in it. i can send you links to both if you can't find them but they should cover just about anything you can think of

found a good deal on a new Hot Rod Deluxe ($650). Also ordered a Fender acoustic (can't remember the model # offhand...it's a single-cutaway, solid spruce top, and has an integral pickup...store was selling it for $300. My friend has one, and it plays and sounds awesome for a guitar in that price range). I couldn't negotiate them down too much on the prices, as they were already pretty low, but they agreed to basically discount them the price of the sales tax, so I'll get the acoustic and the amp for $950 out the door.

Nice. I just got a Presonus Firebox recording interface. I've been dicking around w/ GarageBand and Guitar Rig 3 and their guitar/amp/fx simulators. GR3 isn't half bad.. i'm really impressed.

In Boston i'm moving in w/ my friend who was my drummer in the band we had. He now has an electronic drum set (gotta be quiet, apartment life) so we're gonna mess around w/ recording that and guitar etc. So all virtual/simulated instruments. what is this world coming to?
