I realize it's a small pool considering most on TWW are early/mid 20s, but for anyone else who considers Springsteen to be one of the greatest artists in all of music, post here.

Topics could include:
-Live in Dublin
-Buzz around the upcoming fall album/tour
-The great debate: is he better as a solo folk singer or full E-Street rocker?
-What is his best album? Or worst?
-Better with Mike Appel or Jon Landeau?
-Seen him live?

^^ A very interesting choice. Stark. Brutal. I've always thought that among the solo albums that one's undoubtedly the best.

As far as the whole catalog, it's in my top 5.

This album sucked, I mean like really sucked. He totally butchered songs like Atlantic City and Highway Patrolman. He needs to drop the folk crap and rock.

^ I actually just got it two nights ago.

While I don't think the new renditions of the older songs should become canonical, I thought it was at least interesting and fresh as an experiment.

And I'm driving a stolen car
On a pitch black night
And I'm telling myself I'm gonna be alright
But I ride by night and I travel in fear
That in this darkness I will disappear

One soft infested summer me and Terry became friends
Tryin' in vain to breathe the fire we were born in
Catchin' rides to the outskirts tying fate between our teeth
Sleeping in that old abandoned beach house
Gettin' wasted in the heat

Much shorter in this decade - only 2:45 on average. Used to be 3:30 regularly back in the day. Anyone got any bootlegs to trade?

"Springsteen has long had the nickname "The Boss," a term which he was initially reported to dislike but now seems to have come to terms with, as he sometimes jokingly refers to himself as such on stage. The nickname originated when a young Springsteen, playing club gigs with a band in the 1960s, took on the task of collecting the band's nightly pay and distributing it amongst his bandmates

I've had the pleasure of seeing the Boss in concert once.

It was great. But, after the show, my friend was all upset that he didn't play "Born in the USA," and I was a little embarassed of her in front of all the die hard Bruce fans.

First show last night - rehearsal in Asbury Park w/ limited audience admission. The setlist:

---

Radio Nowhere
No Surrender
Gypsy Biker
Empty Sky
Something In The Night
Girls In Their Summer Clothes
The Night
Promised Land
Living In The Future
Devils Arcade
Candy's Room
She's The One
Lonesome Day
My Hometown
The Rising
Last To Die
Long Walk Home

Thundercrack
Born To Run
Darlington County
American Land

---

Quite a mix. Some rare gems, too. Hopefully he's not just messing around because it was only a rehearsal and keeps it up. Never thought Thundercrack would ever be played live again.

Comes out in CD format tomorrow.

Oddly, I think the two weekest tracks on the whole album are Radio Nowhere (the single), and Magic (the titular track).

Compared to the Rising, this record's got melodies in spades - and if you long for the Darkness/River-esque sound of piano/glock, you will be satisfied. This is, at long last, true old school 1980 E-Street sound.

"Deep in the heart of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's set at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night, "Meeting Across The River" and "Jungleland" were played back to back, just as they close Side Two (remember sides?) of Born To Run. Eyewitnesses were blinded by the impact and house security scrambled for their earplugs. And that was just half-way through the show.
"

...this is going to be the greatest tour in the history of mankind. Seconded, of course, by the 99-00 tour.

High points of the album:
- I'll Work For Your Love
- Long Walk Home
- Your Own Worst Enemy
- Gypsy Biker (best track)

Hey, eye of the beholder and all. I happen think it's the closest analog.

I consider this album to ranked just one slot above Born in the USA as his 6th best record.
