Nice bike- Kept in controlled climate storage since I have owned it... Original owner was a 57yr old man and the bike has never been wheelied or riden hard... I have actually only put about a grand on it since owning-
Very fast 14,000miles 2nd Owner Clean accident History 90 degree Vtwin, just serviced , cam belts. Valve adj, plugs oil etc.. motor runs 100%.. K& N Filter ywin D&D Pipes (VERY loud and Sexy) 2 New Metzler Tires New brakes After market Jet Kit (properly jetted)
It is a bit of an older bike but runs like new and has been very well taken care of- they only produces a few thousand of these and although it will probably be an ebay seller I figured I would toss it up here anyways.... Books around 5800 although book doesn;t seem to meen a whole lot with bikes and specifically ducatis----
Either way- I'll concider all reasonable offers.

Please tell me that you didn't put the D&D pipes on it!? A bike like this deserves soo much more. Only a Termignoni or Akrapovic system would do justice on this "torquey" twin Italian wonder! Anyway, nice bike and perfect for a beginner track bike. 11/1/2007 10:49:09 PM |

^^^ & ^^^^ lol- I didn't put them on myself... the previous owner did and in all honesty I love them! Maybe not so norm but that is why it is fun- People hear you from blocks away and never expect a Ducati- Bit of a head turner and really makes it an intimidating bike.
^I was really hoping to get around $3500 for this bike although it is worth more... If someone met me halfway I would probably sell it just to be done with the hassle of advertising it.

I would really kinda like to get it, the only problem is I haven't ridden a bike before and I don't think this is the place to start. 11/2/2007 7:14:08 PM |

in 100% honesty... it is a fast bike but not "fast" like some of the post 02 crotch-rockets out there. Pretty comfortable to ride and (imo) not overpowering for a first bike. Any sport oriented bike out there has the potential to fuck you up if your nervous with it.
One perk with the Ducati though is it is a pretty forgiving bike and built a healthy chunk beefier than a lot of the plastics out there.
(thats my sales pitch--- All i've got.... ) 11/2/2007 8:23:24 PM |

So you're saying you'd let it go if someone offered half of what you were thinking of ($1700-1800)?11/3/2007 2:07:22 AM |

it wouldn't be too bad. still not the ideal first motorcycle, but it would be better than ANY race-replica type sportbike made in the last 10 years (and probably the last 15+). I think they make maybe 80hp or so...just a little more than an SV-650, and the Duc might be a little heavier (just guessing). That's substantially less power than even the first R6 that came out, and a little less than something like a ZX-6e or YZF-600.

Agreed more or less, with a couple of caveats.
1. It's not just post '02 crotch rockets that are a lot faster. 2. No sportbike is the ideal first motorcycle...due both to the power and the more high-strung handling characteristics. However, this bike wouldn't be too bad on either count. If you're determined to make your first bike a sportbike, this wouldn't be a bad way to go.
the only thing is that Ducatis--particularly the desmodromic valves--require a lot more maintainance than Japanese stuff, and I'm guessing that maintainance is on the pricey side, too.11/3/2007 1:46:11 PM |

the maintenance required is certainly a bit more expensive but not as often... imo owning this bike 11/5/2007 7:11:03 PM |

If you wipe on this bike, what $$$ are you looking at typically for replacement parts? like 1-200 or like 5-600? 11/5/2007 10:37:44 PM |

^^ No matter what type of bike you own... if you lay it down there are going to be consequences...
No bike is cheap to fix, no plastics (on any bike) are going to come out unscathed if you lay it down, and ^^ "replacement parts" is pretty vague.... Plastics are going to be a bit more expensive for a Ducati as opposed to most japanese bikes merely because for every 20 Japs on the st. there is maybe 1 ducati-
Same note though--- there are less plastics to smash up on the SS than there is on most crotchrockets out there... Morale of the story--- don't buy a bike based on how much it will run you to fix shit if you bang it up- If you go into owning a bike worrying about dumping it you WILL!

i know some cruiser and standard riders who've never wrecked
i don't personally know a single sportbiker who's never wrecked. it's all but an inevitability. buy some good leathers and gear and wear it. 11/6/2007 1:22:37 AM |
