Thanks for the bump.

Just had my first pomegranate of the season -- fantastic.

$1.67 each at Food Lion, large but not huge, POM brand.
$3.49 at Harris Teeter, huge and almost perfectly round, POM brand.

all you do is rip one open and dump the seeds in a bowl. not much work at all and you don't have to wash them.

I want to try this recipe:

Quote :
"Panfried Pork Chops with Pomegranate and Fennel Salsa

1 lb fennel bulb (sometimes called anise), stalks cut off and discarded
3 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 cup pomegranate seeds (from 1 large pomegranate)
2 scallions, finely chopped
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1 teaspoon seasoned rice vinegar
2 teaspoons honey
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 (1/2- to 3/4-inch-thick) pork chops

Halve fennel bulb lengthwise and core it, then cut into 1/4-inch dice. Cook fennel in 2 tablespoons oil in a 12-inch heavy skillet over moderate heat, stirring, until tender, about 15 minutes. Transfer fennel to a bowl and stir in pomegranate seeds, scallions, cilantro, vinegar, honey, and salt.
Pat pork chops dry and season with salt and pepper. Heat remaining tablespoon oil in skillet over moderately high heat until hot but not smoking, then sauté chops until deep golden and just cooked through, 4 to 5 minutes on each side. Transfer chops to plates and let stand, loosely covered, 5 minutes.
Serve chops topped with salsa.

They were 2/$6 at Harris Teeter last night and didn't look like the usual exceptional pomegranates they have. Not sure what the deal is...

^ Weak ass baby.

(and what kind of poms are you getting that the very slight bitter taste overpowers the vastly stronger sweetness???)

I don't know if I have ever heard a Pom described as "bitter"

Poms are ridiculously sweet. And ridiculously delicious.

Anybody have experience growing pomegrantes? My parents have three trees but they never fruit, just flower. They've tried hand pollinating and planting other flowers to attract bees, but nothing seems to work. I told my parents I think they just need to trim the hell out of the trees so that there's only a few flowering branches but so far they haven't taken my advice

Had a delicious one this past Sunday. The gf did all the work though, and it looked extremely cumbersome. I like them, but will only eat them if someone else does the work.

Gracias...

I'd like to thank TWW for obsessing over these things... I mocked the obsession in the past, but I have been converted. I've gone through 6 over the past week and a half (well, consumed 3, removed the seeds of 3 more last night)

Very easy and unmessy... I feel like I can eat one a day now!
