Wow...Someone tell me really quickly if I should buy Falken Ziex ZE-912 or ZE-512 tires. No real price difference between the two. I had some ZE-512's and they were good. 10/18/2007 5:15:48 PM |

If you've had the 512's before and liked them I would just get them again. 10/18/2007 5:29:07 PM |

I googled around a little and found that the 912 is the follow-on tire. It looks like it has a stiffer sidewall which was my biggest complaint about the 512. It's also supposed to be grippier and have longer life. Sweet!
Thx for looking out Dave421. I owe you a beer.

shouldn't be any more than ~$40-50 total at most. some places do it as cheap as $8 a wheel. slingblade has made it well known that he works at merchants. dunno if he gives a tww discount or anything though. 10/18/2007 7:04:28 PM |

I had the Ziex 512's on my subie for about... one whole year. That's right. Only one year and they were down to 2/32nds. I tried to blame it on my AWD and aggressive driving habits. But, I decided to give them a benefit of a doubt since they were so cheap and performed fairly well. After buying them again for a second time and driving on them less aggressively for, you guessed it, one year, they were down to 2/32nds again. Also, I could hear every rock in the road. I guess it could be just AWD, so take my words with a grain of salt.
Ziex 512's are good for a cheapo tire, but don't expect to have them for too long. Be prepared to play the radio louder than usual after 6,000 miles on them. Very noisy tires.
I won't buy them again for the reasons above. I went with some Pirelli M+S Nero PZero's this time. More expensive, but comparable dry grip with MUCH improved comfort and tread wear.

^^ I honestly didn't have the Ziex-512's for very long before I sold the car. I probably put 7,000 miles on them myself, but I didn't notice any noise problems. In any case, these 912's are going on a cheap beater car and they have got to be better than rolling on the 18 year old spare tire (yes, I've seriously been running the factory spare from 1989 for the last year...It was on there when I bought the car.) I have nicer tires on my Honda. 10/19/2007 10:58:58 AM |

so what was the end conclusion on
Ziex ZE-512 Ziex ZE-912 Azenis ST115
also how many people kept the replacement certificates and valve stems? is it just a ploy?
Ziex ZE-912 are 252 OTD, which i can totally do right now. 4x Pilot Sport A/S started to get me worried.
Also, what's the skinny on matching tires with AWD. Do the tread patterns have to match as well?

I have some Yokohama H4s right now and I like them, but I was looking at the Falken Ziex 912. Both seem very comparable with the falken's being a bit cheaper. The reviews I've read say that both tires are great performers, but I'm concerned more to highway noise. The H4s are quiet on my Acura TL. Would the 912's be quiet as well?

Quote : | "Some information i pulled up from edgeracing.com for the Falken 912's comparing to the Falken 512's.
Better Handling (wet and dry) Higher mileage warranty (now 40,000 miles) Better and more uniform wear Fantastic Value Quieter ride Asymmetric tread design (which means you can rotate the tires front-to-back and side-to-side as you wish) Wear indicators 4 wider circumferential grooves for better hydroplaning resistance Squarer shoulder (improved “beefier” looks)
The only thing i dont like about these tires are that the new 912's do not have lip protectors, so you have a larger chance of curbing your wheel from the previous 512's that had lip protectors on the tires. As for that, i think the 912's are great tires. Hope this helps.
