I'm going to trade my scooter in for a motorcycle in the spring. Any suggestions on a good "beginner" bike? Two things I don't like: "racing" style bikes (leaning forward with your feet back) and loud bikes. Pictures would be appreciated

I didn't post this on the Garage board, because I don't want a bunch of overly-technical/mechanical answers - just bikes you've seen or enjoyed.

my dad had a v-star 1100 before he got his electra glide, it was a pretty nice bike. you might go with like a 650 instead. they're not that loud unless you put some aftermarket pipes on them.

honda shadow (500 or 750, cant remember the displacement)

honda nighthawk (oldschool)

kawasaki ninja ex500 (underpowered and underpaid, or the ex250 for the really underpowered)

for a step up:

Suzuki SV650

honda 599

yamaha fz6

there are tons more options, I'd say talk to the Garage guys, but you might get eaten.

suzuki gs500 any year, they're all the exact same bike. an sv650 is a great beginner bike too.

^^^ most of those are the "leaning forward" kind of bikes. I like to have my feet below me or in front of me. I can't have my boobies poppin' out if I'm wearing a low-cut shirt.

^^same problem

As far as size goes, I just want something small and inconspicuous. Remember: I'm upgrading from a scooter, so anything over 100cc's is going to be much faster and cooler than my 49cc glorified bicycle. Think "girl bike" (since, I am, after all, a girl).

What is he she selling?

Of all of the suggestions so far, the V-Star is the most appealing to me. I looked it up, and it comes in a 250 version So... any others like this come to mind?

(and it comes in Cranberry )

squirt is a girl

and if you're serious about a motorcycle then heed my advice. your tits should be the last concern in the deal. have you even done a search for a honda shadow? those are cruisers. Maybe even a honda rebel 250 is in your range, but that shit is scary slow for trying to keep up with in traffic

When considering Hurley's advice, just remember that he makes Elton John seem straight.

ah, but you forget: I ride a scooter now. It tops out at 40 - downhill.

thats true. but if you get a real cycle, you will be fitting into the flow of traffic more than if you were riding a scooter - or at least you better... traffic laws and such

(read: im no expert, but I am currently contributing to this thread.I also own a motorcycle, so I know a little bit about the situation)

I'm not planning on being on the highway with it... I don't even like being on the highway in my car Primarily I'll be on roads with a speed limit of 45 or 55 - so I'm not too worried about it being "slow."

Oh, also, the 'boobs falling out' thing was a joke. I just don't like to be leaned forward on a bike - it makes me feel off balance.

yeah, i'd just do some serious google searching and keep talking to people. maybe take a m-cycle riding class if you arent too comfortable about your skill. if not go for it.
