They are clocking people on I-40 around the Wake/Johnston County line with the helicopter. So if you've got a convertible you should drop the top and keep an eye on the sky.

they're wasting money when they don't use the helicopter. Otherwise it's just sitting there doing nothing.

^ Helicopters are useful in many situations (high speed chases, search and rescue, etc etc)

You want a competent pilot, you got to keep him trained and give him hours in the sky.

ha, I like the Speed Enforced by Air signs that some places have. Oh and from WRAL:

Quote :
"From the helicopters, troopers use a timing device that tells them how quickly a vehicle moves between two fixed points along the road. After that, it is simply a middle-school time-distance calculation to show the speed.

In addition, troopers will be on motorcycles and in regular patrol cars and unmarked cars to clock speeders. They also will station unmanned cars at various points on the highways for their value in slowing drivers who might have a reason to worry about how fast they're traveling, troopers said."

They had a roadblock on 401 this morning, made me late for work.

Had oodles of cars pulled off the side. I got waved through but still drove the next two miles flashing my lights to warn people.

The helicopter does have a use. It flew the 350 miles from Raleigh just in time to turn around and go back the other night. What model chopper is it? Does anyone know?

through greenville, sc on 85 north, there were cops sitting on bridges clocking people and relaying to other cops around the next turn

it was pretty obvious what they were doing and they still managed to get people
