Good luck everyone during these last couple days of training (be it eating doughnuts or jogging)! I'm not sure if I'll be able to eat 12 doughnuts, but I can't wait to try. I'll see you out there, DNL. I know you will do great with your Lake Johnson runs.

there should be pins available on Saturday. i was out there passing them out last year.

and in terms of calves, stretching is all i ever do. make sure to stretch all the other leg muscles too: shins, quads, and hamstrings. sometimes an unstretched muscle elsewhere causes another muscle to work harder, making that second muscle (your calf) hurt.

The streets are going to run orange and chunky come Saturday morning.

Oh god I hope Raleigh has street cleaning equipment out there...

You all enjoy your stacks of fat cakes! I've had to avoid eating those things since they'll kill me now and all.

I hope everybody that goes out there brings a camera! Share yer pics!

I can hardly believe this.

I urge fellow TWWers, please be um...accommodating tomorrow. This event is entirely planned and organized by students...the number of registrants is simply unprecedented and we're deep into uncharted territories.

we're gonna fly by the seat of our pants, but i think it'll be ok. bear with us.

it's going to be wild tomorrow.

there will be people there just to run, but they are not alloted doughnuts. Quit dancing around the fact that you want free doughnuts

I have a few incredibly obvious questions, but felt like asking because they changed between 2006 and 2007, and I just wanted to make sure they stay the same as last year.

1) the route is the same as last year, correct?
2) last year they had tables with water already poured, as apposed to 2006 when I had to pour my own water. I'm guessing they'll have it done already, otherwise you'd have hundreds of people waiting in line to get their own water.
3) will the people who check your number off when you show them your empty box be in the same area again? on the street as you're leaving? Because last year I wasted a good 10 secs looking for someone to check my number. And yes, 10 secs is time I need.)

bellrabbit - you need to beat your time from last year to show you ain't slackin'!

Don't know about the other stuff, but I just checked out the website and the route has changed.

http://www.krispykremechallenge.com/index.php?page_id=3

Basically they cut out that section through the neighborhood beside Hillsborough and are going straight down St. Mary's.

Auburn -- for my part I've been advising them to have tables with pre-filled cups of water ready for the runners.

I don't know exactly how things will be setup at the store this year. No matter where you pick up your donuts though or where you eat them, just start running back towards the exit on Peace St. Someone will be there.

I've been urging this new committee not to bother with marking people. As I've shown in an earlier post, it's just not feasible to do it. Auburn, you are going to get there so early before most people that a bunch of people will be watching anyway. Just focus yourself on getting the fastest time.

i got a feeling donuts will be in short supply tomorrow...what if 1500 people show up within a 5 minute interval...does the time waiting for donuts add to our overall time?

also, i am at least 2x as sick as i was yesterday...throat is all fucked up...i'm still going though...my goal is 55 minutes or less

The committee has been updating Herman (the KK store owner) with daily updates on registrant counts. The store is confident they will be able to make enough donuts. I can speak for last year when I was at the store starting at 5am and started to stockpile donuts.

Due to logistics constraints, we're capping it at 2900. if there a still room available, you might be able to register tomorrow morning. if you want to run the course, we'd ask you to register as a casual runner, where you don't have to eat any donuts if you don't want to but still want to run the course.

we're doing this to benefit the NC Children's Hospital.

It all sounds good to me. The only thing is the route has changed three times now, so it's going to be hard to compare this year's times to last year. I'm guessing they're trying to get the distance closer to 2 miles because last year it was definitely short. I have a feeling this year the times will be slower because that map makes it look a bit further. But it doesn't really matter, because everyone's running the same distance.

Wow, capping it at 2900! What a response for this great event.

I'm going to get to the store as quickly as possible before all hell breaks loose when 1000+ get there at once...

This is going to be insane. But, really, as long as bellrabbit has a fair chance to defend his title, everything is cool with me.

I just ran the new route, it's definitely longer. I suspect times will be slower this year. Also, I think some of you guys are putting way too much thought into the details. Just wear clothes you would normally run in if it's cold. It's just a four mile run with donuts in the middle.

Was on the way home from work and listening to NPR and there was a segment about this race on there.
They were talking to the Mgr. of the KK and he said they were expecting 3000 people!

i'm a little concerned how smoothly things will go tomorrow. the committee is doing everything they can. one of the leaders skipped every single class this week save for one lecture, and even there he wasn't paying attention through half of it.

there are professional eating contests much smaller than this and they have full-time paid staff devoted to it and fatter wallets. our spirit is to be creative and try to keep overheads low, so more money goes to charity. doesn't help that we can't do everything in house either...we're dependent on others.

tip for anyone trying to put on events: communicating with outside parties takes is so much slower than you'd like.

it's going to be insane! its exhilarating.

holy Jesus

This is definitely on the upper limit of what I expected. I'll be expecting a thick starting line, but I think that the donuts part would be logistically possible. Last year I was amazed at how smoothly it went. That doesn't mean it went really really smoothly, but awesome for such a boom of people.

3000 is ridiculous.

If everyone returns in an standard deviation spread of about 30 minutes, that's 100 people every minute. More than one every second.

We just picked up our packets and #'s at KK downtown.

I have to say that y'all are fairly organized for something of this magnitude. The line was long, but it moved pretty quick.

we appreciate the comments. Like last year, I would love if everyone here could post comments about their experience and give us some feedback. I saved all the comments and feedback we got into a document, both the good and the bad. We are always looking for ways to improve the experience of this event. It's hard to accommodate everyone's wish, but we want to hear from you what we did well and what we can do better. TWW is an important communication channel for us.
