that meme still makes no fucking sense. The revenue of women's world cup soccer isn't even close to that of what the men bring in. The women actually earn a higher total percentage than the men do in terms of revenue and ratings. They should be happy.

Quote :
"From 2016 to 2018, women’s games generated about $50.8 million in revenue compared with $49.9 million for the men, according to U.S. soccer’s audited financial statements. In 2016, the year after the World Cup, the women generated $1.9 million more than the men. Game revenues are made up mostly of ticket sales. In the last two years, at least, the men’s tally includes appearance fees that opposing teams pay the U.S. for games."

That's not total revenue though, those numbers have been revised to prove a point. Those are more than likely gate revenue numbers. The difference in total amount earned is absurd.

What numbers were revised? Thats ticket sales. Its the only apples to apples revenue comparison. US soccer makes all of its deals as a whole. There are no other "total numbers" . Why are you lying?

For other countries its probably obvious that the men are a bigger draw but the US is the rare case of a major soccer country that is historically awful on the men's side.

Also, whatever argument could be made on behalf of the men's revenue is not going to be because of the USMNT. Its going to be because people want to see other mens teams play. USMNT shouldn't be paid because Ronaldo, Messi, and Pogba are awesome. This isn't boxing. Pay needs to either be based on ticket sales or performance but right now its literally just based on sex.

[Edited on June 20, 2019 at 2:14 PM. Reason : stop rewarding USMNT for their competition being good. ]

As the WSJ site is paywalled I am not sure what the ticket revenue is including. Does this only include matches played in the United States or does this include all matches?

If it includes non-domestic played games the revenue would be skewed due to the lack of World Cup qualification for the men.

^My thought too. I hope we win the tournament. We'll need the extra practice at the Confederations Cup, if we haven't been eliminated from WCQ by then.

TBH, this is the point that is more important to me than total revenue. It is the fact that the competition is much higher for the men than the women. They are in a league that it is on a completely different level. Men's Soccer is the biggest sport in the world, and they are playing on the biggest stage against the top athletes in the world. I know that it may be hard to understand being an American and surrounded by NBA and NFL, but that is the number one sport in pretty much every other continent than north america.

The precedent here is pretty strong. For example, the German Bundesliga has three competitive leagues, but the players on the worst team in the first league will typically make much more than the players from the best team in the second or third league. It is due to the overall competition, talent, and skill required to play at that level.

This is only really an issue because people are now going across the board demanding equal pay and opportunity between men and women. Fortunately, this movement has brought awareness to some alarming issues such as pitiful maternity leave for employees or women not getting hired because they are early thirties newly weds. However, in a lot of cases, such as Brie Larson and her press tour stunt, this puts hard working men at an unfair disadvantage simply because they were born a man.

Being that Jamaica hasn't looked good at all this should be setup perfectly for the US-Mexico in the Final

Man Jozy has the worst scoring touch for the National Team.

Michael Bradley is being given way too many minutes in a crucial role, he makes way too many poor decisions.

Did not like playing out of the back in 2nd Half when they couldn't break the high press.

^^ The men bring in a TOOOOOONNNNNN more money

Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe, Müller, Mats fucking Hummels!

It would be unfair to the men, honestly, if they took money away from them.

This is not a case of equal pay, because it is not like Rapinoe has the same desk job as Ronaldo. The men are just at a different level and bring in much more cash. There is a difference. If the women get to a point where the bring in more Texa$ than the men, then let them have it.

I don't know that anyone is arguing for Rapinoe, etc to be paid as much as Messi, Ronaldo, etc. I think it just comes down to the US women actually being able to win something, unlike the US men.

She is saying that the women's champions should be being paid the same as the men's... WTF?

Men did not make the world cup last year... but they are suing for general women's verses men's pay in WC competitions IIRC...

I doubt a lawsuit based on relative performance would hold up so they have to start somewhere.

Why are you so anti-winners? US women win stuff, US men don't. US men are getting paid because of a bunch of South American men are good at soccer, not because they themselves have won anything. Our women on the other hand have proven they are the best in the world in their sport.

Not anti-winners, I just think that the argument that the women's championship team should be paid the same as the men's, as the revenue stands, makes no fucking sense.

Like their math here.... it is just ludicrous. No way that they deserve more or the same. But it was Rapinoe, at her post final's press conference, that made it seem like this is some injustice. What the fuck? That is irresponsible. The women are not being fucked over here.

Do you think they deserve more than they're currently making, even if it's not completely equal with the men? After all, unlike the US men, they are winning world championships. Sorry ladies, try growing a weiner instead of winning multiple World Cups.

Women's world cup soccer is a newer thing compared to the men.

The men face tougher competition and they should be compensated for that as it currently stands.

This is not a case of "equal pay". The men bring in more money and that's just the way it is until things change.

I mean, the landscape has significantly changed for women's tennis, hasn't it? The women's tennis players fought for and earned their extra cash. We live in a capitalistic society, it's not that complicated.

You bring in the revenue, and you get paid.

WTF?

Have you looked at the numbers? Based on total revenue, the women already bring in more than the men per dollar.

I just don't get why you're so gung-ho about the women not getting more money, while tacitly sucking the men's dicks for sucking dick at soccer.
