I was stopped by a county mountie for suspicion of impersonating a law enforcement vehicle. I drive a crown victoria and yeah, there's a CB antenna on the trunk, but I don't have blue lights or any insignia. He claimed he thought he saw a badge on my jacket, which was actually my cellphone clipped to the seatbelt. I think the assclown was just bored. Anyway, 5 more cop cars showed up and I was asked repeatedly if I had badges or weapons and was grilled about my registration. You bet your ass I refused to let them search. The whole ordeal took 45 minutes.

My question is, is my plate somehow flagged now in the computer system, even though no arrest or citation was made, to alert other patrol cars to hassle me if they get behind me? I'm wondering if I should transfer title to my wife and get a new plate.

That's what I did to mine and it got burglarized anyway... damn teenagers probably got a thrill out of thinking they were robbing a cop car. Mine has 2 big antennas and a reflector in the dash that looks like a strobe from a distance. It's probably what attracted them in the first place, looking for radios or guns."

okay, so

when an officer requests a lookup on your plate he asks the center to do so

they look up your plate in DCI

the only "flags" that can be on there are called "hits"

you get a hit in DCI if the plate or car has been reported stolen or the registered owner is wanted for some crime and the agency that issued the warrant has requested a DCI hit

other than that, the dispatcher doesn't have any info like that nor will they say anything like that...

[Edited on April 16, 2008 at 5:49 PM. Reason : of course the cops could just remember your plate number]

Ironic because you were trying to impersonate a cop, your shit got stolen, and then you got pulled.

Anyways, I heard this on the radio this morning. A 19 year old security guard in my town "arrested" some dude TP'ing a house and hilarity ensued.

Quote :
"HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. -- A Highlands Ranch teen trying to scare off other teens from toilet-papering his friend's house has been arrested and accused of impersonating a cop.

On Sunday morning at about 12:30 a.m., deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of a 19-year-old who had been handcuffed by someone claiming to be a law enforcement officer.

Two teens told deputies that they were sitting in a car waiting for their friends to finish toilet-papering another friend's house when a man drove up. The man got out of his car, identified himself as a police officer and held a badge in his hand, the teens said.

He then ordered the driver out of the car, handcuffed him and placed him in the back seat of the suspect's car, the victims said.

The suspect then went back to the victim's car and spoke with all of the teens at the scene, some of whom had just finished scattering streams of toilet paper on a friend's yard.

He ordered them to clean up the toilet paper and when they did, the imposter then went back to his car and let the victim out and un-handcuffed him.

The man then got in his car and drove away. The victims said they did not know the "man" but the person who lived in the house that was being TP'd apparently did, police said.

After receiving the 19-year-old's name, deputies drove to his home, where they found a vehicle with a badge and handcuffs inside. Deputies also found empty beer bottles in the car.

The suspect, identified as Jesse Archuleta, was contacted and then taken in to custody.

Archuleta was taken to the Douglas County Detention Facility and booked on a felony charge of false imprisonment, a felony charge of impersonating a peace officer, and illegal consumption/possession of alcohol by an underage person."

you have flagged yourself by trying to drive around looking like a cop. they don't need a computer system to see that flag.

I really don't think having an extra antenna gives anyone reasonable suspicion to stop me. I see a lot of cars with CB antennas, the fact that it's a crown vic shouldn't be a factor. Oh, he also tried to say that the little compass in the windshield looks like a camera - there are just layers of stupidity there.

Anyway, I hope what evan posted is correct. Perhaps the great crown vic fling is coming to an end. Time to grow up and get a camry or something.

i had (RIP) a friend who had a few charges of assault on a LEO, and supposedly he had to assume the felony arrest position every time he was pulled, even minor traffic stops.

is this a possible flag, republican? some warning that comes up saying they're prone to hit cops?

TIME OUT! Was that you that I saw yesterday on Western and then turn off Gorman into Gorman St. apartments or in that vicinity???!?! The Crown Vic was an ol' blue and white car with antennas and all. Just no lights and u could tell the emblem had been scraped off the sides. WTF would ANYONE wanna drive that shit around!!?!?!?!!?

While some of the circumstances sound a bit spurious, I don't blame them at all for pulling you over. However, once you proved you did not in fact have illegal lighting/badges, they should have let you go, end of story. Oh, and there were 6 units total there? DAMN must have been a slow night.

You're damn lucky you didn't still have the strobes. If you drive a CV with extra antennas, you're an obvious target to get pulled over, learn to deal with it and don't be stupid. Or get another car. (I've owned a Crown Vic, extensively driven another, and currently own a car that looks almost identical to one, and never gotten pulled over for suspicion of this. You're bringing it on yourself. Consider this karma getting you back for the strobes, considering that in retrospect the theft was good luck.)

amber and white strobes are legal for anybody to own, i think... not sure on that though.

blue is restricted to state-owned law enforcement vehicles.

red is restricted to EMS/fire vehicles and the personal vehicles of their associated personnel.

if you get caught with one of those and aren't legally allowed to have one in your vehicle, you're fucked.

^haha, and you'd be right

don't do things that piss off cops, you're just asking for trouble

i know all the unreasonable search, probable cause, etc. shit... but don't go making trouble when there wasn't going to be any. just let the cop do whatever, make sure you get his badge number (don't make it obvious), and report it later. get legislation passed. whatever.

i guarantee that arguing/fighting/whatever with a cop will get you absolutely nowhere and will put you in a much worse situation. great job - you may have defended your constitutional rights, but you ended up in jail for doing so.

you can't win. so don't even try.

Hey guys, I own a crown vic which looks like a cop car. In fact I have referenced how much it looks like a cop car in several threads on tww. Now I came here to bitch about being pulled over for driving what looks like a cop car and I don't understand why law enforcement might hassle me or think I am up to something driving this vehicle.

Thanks

A very similar thing happen to my brother. He got pulled supposedly for speeding. (Wasn't speeding when pulled and the SHP still have coughed up radar evidence) His car is a decommissioned police cruiser with a CB antenna. My brother was dragged out of his car, frisked, spent 15 min. with his face on the hood and a baton pressed against the back of his head while the searched his car, etc... The police hassled him for about 45 min., called him names, threatened him will all kinds of bullshit. They eventually wrote him two reckless driving tickets that they don't have any evidence for. Apparently, this bullshit happens more often than I thought.

Why do cops care so much about people in crown vics? I can understand not wanting people driving around pretending to be cops, but unless they've been getting reports of someone doing that, it seems crazy to get so bent out of shape about how the car looks.

your plate can be marked for certain things. i know one of mine was 3 years ago when my license was revoked. i got pulled on the beltline, and when i asked why he said because it showed when he ran the tag. keep in mind this is after i had registered the car at the dmv with an id card.

i know they get arrest history, evan. but i've seen that system and it can take a while to navigate when you have someone with multiple arrests and citations, etc.

Quote :

no, he was white. he just didn't like cops very much so when they disrespected him, he disrespected them back (with his fist)

i'd like to hear any specific info that Republican18 has on this. cause these cops act FAST. way quicker than you'd think they would if they were reading a whole history. that's why i think there's a flag.

also
