i for one think 60% of most of the rappers on television and radio alot are gay. Evan, feel free to chime in on this thread. great courage to come out on tdub. you're the first. kudos! but anyway, i got this really cool video on my blog and i'd like you guys to comment about it.

http://chlorococaina.blogspot.com

i think together we can all determine who the gay rapper(s) and celebrities are and be definitive.

I'm glad someone other than Huey Freeman is talking about this.
Take a look a the work of documentary director Byron Hurt. Unfortunately, he isn't able to touch on this idea very much, because the majority of people involved in hip hop try not to talk about it, but it is there. The portrayal of male hip hop artists in music videos and magazines is in an inherently homoerotic manner, that is found to be more pleasing to gay men than to women. Add in the over-wearing of jewelry and the feminine-style flowing, over-sized clothes, and you have an image that is very against the grain of traditional hard, masculine images. I think that it is a good thing that these images exist and challenge the current stereotypes, but I hate that so many people in the business deny that this kind of imagery is there.

Hip-hop song links saggy pants to being gay

Quote :
"'Pull Your Pants Up' by Dooney da Priest (real name: Dewayne Brown) first describes saggin' visually, but then uses street slang to imply homosexuality: 'You walk the street with your pants way down low/I dunno; looks to me you on the down low.' The phrase 'on the down low' can mean a secret sexual encounter between two men."

Quote :
"Da Priest's lyrical tactic isn't the first time that homophobia has emerged as a theme in hip-hop music – Eminem, Ice Cube, Common, 50 Cent, DMX and other rappers have been vilified for anti-gay lyrics.

Da Priest claims that saggin' – a fad partially born from prison inmates having to wear ill-fitting clothing without belts and drawstrings – has grown to suggest something different in prison culture: an invitation for sex.

'They know that it came from behind bars, but they don't know its history,' the rapper says of the potential audience for his song."

^^^ thanks hooksaw, I was just about to post that. heard that a while ago that the prison "bitches" would sag their pants to let others know what they were (instead of being tough and inviting violence I guess?). I find it funny that so many "gangstas" walking down the ghetto streets (see: also malls) dress that like. always gives me a chuckle
