tbf its not like Earl's trolling is / was unique. Be glad this place only has one of them at any given time.

Why does everyone refuse to ignore him? If he's entertaining then why does it seem certain people who hang on his every word get legitimately mad?

Deaths are soaring (they will, until no more people die, which is months away) simply means "people are still dying".

Death rate has been declining in the US for about a couple of weeks now.

You implied that they were using total deaths and that "soar" is appropriate to use as long as the total deaths are higher than they previously were which is going to be the case 100% of the time in 100% of the places. With that logic, you can't say "deaths are on the decline" unless people come back to life.

That would still be a misleading headline because "as deaths soar" gives people the impression that the death rate is higher. If you're going to do that kind of gymnastics to defend CNN, its cause for abandoning the argument.

I made no such implication, you made a poor inference. There were 1400 new deaths yesterday that is "soaring" to most normal people

I agree that 1400 deaths is soaring to most people because they aren't aware of what the deaths have been before that which is the entire point of my intitial post. That CNN is giving people the false impression that things are getting worse instead of better or stable by using a term that means "rapidly increasing". In a few days, they are going to make a max font size banner to say 100,000 deaths and it will alarm people to think things suddenly got much worse. Its the same idea as how a price tag that says "SALE $19.99" gives people a much cheaper impression than "$20.00". I get it for marketing but those sort of marketing tactics have no place in journalism.

So soaring relative to what?

What would it take for you to no longer think the term"soar" applies?

How many deaths for you to think "as deaths stabilize"?
How many deaths for you to think "as deaths decline"?

Well people love comparing to flu, looks like flu ha killed a high end of 60k in 6 months, or about 350/day, so let's see if we can get CV under at LEAST 700 before we start acting like deaths aren't stili rapidly rising.

There are a lot of reasons to shit on CNN. From the Cuomo’s highly unethical brother sessions to Jake Tappers incessant need to both sides shit to Don Lemon essentially running a reverse Fox News lite opinion show... but spending a week attacking a dumb interns chryon for semantic reasons is just pedantic nonsense.

Biden makes a dumb comment about a demographic that he is currently polling at 97% with and the “Liberal” media covers it for multiple days, including it as a leading story, until Biden admits his mistake and apologizes. They’ll probably cover it till the end of the holiday weekend.

The current president makes an off-the-cuff reference to the “great bloodlines” of one of America’s most prominent Nazis and it barely generates an article.

The only reason this election isn’t in the bag already is the “Liberal” media’s willingness to hyper exam one nominee while letting the other skate.

Wait didn't that just happen yesterday? The comment AND the apology? And tbf the Biden comment was really embarrassingly bad.

Also it overshadowed his refusal to take accountability for his actions yet again, defending his position on the 94 Crimea bill.

I just don’t think Biden’s comment justifies the same amount of coverage as Trump blowing a kiss to nazis.

Nor is the 1994 crime bill a more important topic RIGHT NOW than the fact black people are dying from COVID at roughly 3x the rate of white people, While the federal government does less than nothing.

It’s going to be a long way to November if the media is unable to cover things in proportion to their relative importance.

Edit:
What pisses me off the most about the 1994 Crime bill attack is that most of the Brooklyn hipsters wringing their hands about it wouldn’t have been caught dead on their current street after dark in 1994. The crime rate was like 2x-4x higher than what it is now.

[Edited on May 23, 2020 at 1:20 PM. Reason : Why can’t the media cater to what I think matters.]

Fucking CNN.

I don't know how long the Arbery article has been up, I usually check things first thing in the morning but I've been pretty busy.

But their timing for the Arbery headline is so stupid.

CNN: Well, looks like the fires have burned down to embers in downtowns across America. That just won't do. Let's fan that shit back into flames!

These things must be heard, and read about, but it just seems a little irresponsible to me.

NYT's response was even worse. They lost their credibility long ago, probably so long ago as when they printed an op-ed by Hitler on the day he invaded Russia.

Liberal media twitter is fuming over an alleged statement from Trump indicating that Floyd would be looking down and saying this is a great thing, attributing it to the good jobs data. The actual clip shows Trump talking about fixing racial injustices and police brutality. Trump has so much to attack him about. Why make this up? Here is a good thread with receipts, for those interested.

Help me out, what exactly was he trying to say with this quote

Quote :
""Hopefully George is looking down right now and saying this is a great thing that is happening for our country. This is a great day for him. It's a great day for everybody." Trump added, "This is a great, great day in terms of equality.""

So what happened today that would make it a great day for George Floyd? What has been done today to fix racial injusties and police brutality? Are you sure he's not referring to the unemployment numbers, that came out today? Or did something else happen today that he's referring to?

^^ Trump is a sociopath and maybe even a psychopath. A normal human capable of even the most basic level emotions would understand on the literal day of his funeral in Houston to, uh, not say that... in any context outside a eulogy.

His dad really fucked him up but he’s so dead inside he doesn’t actually know it.

https://www.businessinsider.com/first-coronavirus-task-force-briefing-in-two-months-pence-national-accomplishment-flatten-the-curve-2020-6
Now they are all turning Pence statement into a lie by saying it was about case numbers even though he explicitly stated in the same speech that cases are up because testing was up. Back in march, we weren't testing as many people. You can look at the positivity rates and clearly see that the March-April cases were supressed by lack of testing.
https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/testing/individual-states
You can only use "record cases" as a comparable stat if testing stayed consistent throughout the period of time you are comparing. This is easy to understand but the media is being intentionally misleading about it. Just because I hate Pence, doesn't mean I should pile onto this. I support the truth and will call out dishonestly wherever I see it, even if I don't like the person being misrepresented.

In March and early April, we had a positivity rate of 17-22% but only around 150k tests for 34k cases but now we have a rate of 6% with 600k tests and 44k cases and the media wants to portray the situation as worse than ever.

If you gave 4 times as many cases back then, its pretty certain that you would find a lot more than an extra 10k cases. This should be easy to see and you can see it when you look at the deaths curve.

That "flattening" of that curve is indisputable

It will never cease to amaze me that Donald J Trump has approvingly retweeted Glenn Greenwald.

He’s great on Bolsonaro but it’s just unexplainable how crazy he is about MSNBC and not Trump himself.

** and also, like literal what the fuck? Was he not outspoken about Native rights during the Dakota Pipeline ordeal? As he should have been. And the low-key trolling of Bernie? Bernie isn’t infallible and he is wrong here. Bernie himself would admit it. Glenn has just totally lost the plot and the only reason I can possibly see why is he feels hurt MSNBC no longer has him on.

Ok this is close bear with me. if Trump didn't write his book...maybe just maybe, he isn't writing white house policy... which means there could be multiple authors in perpetual conflict which would explain....multiple trumps.

And of course there is plenty of evidence of multiple camps within the administration bumping heads while advising Trump.
