I generally like tea, but I've always been a coffee fan. I'm trying to get away from coffee however now that I'm on the verge of graduating and won't need as high of a caffeine intake.

If you're a tea drinker, what teas have you found to be the most flavorful? I like flavor and hate tea that I feel like I'm drinking toilet water, having to add like 3 tea bags just to taste anything.

Right now I'm on a kick of Yogi teas.

republic of tea makes some flavorful teas...but realize that good tea generally isn't super strong (it depends, of course)...they're GENERALLY meant to hint at flavors, not make a hot koolaid

Are you talking about real tea? That is, camelia sinensis, sold as unflavoured and flavoured black teas, green teas, and white teas? Or you are using the word tea in a more generic sense?

Either way, I drink quite a bit, but almost all of it real tea. And lately, some South African rooibos as well, which is made from a South African plant, and has been found to have great health benefits, perhaps greater than those of tea. And it tastes even better than black tea, and you can leave the tea bag in for 10 minutes and it doesn't go bitter as it doesn't have the tannins found in tea. It has a fruitier/flowery taste, and is amazing with milk and wthout.

I love flavoured black and green teas. Some of my favourites:

Mint green tea
Lemon green tea
Earl grey (black)
Citrus black tea (Tazo Citron)
Vanilla black tea
Spiced black tea (cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, black pepper, star anise, coriander)

I also like to try [real] tea from different countries, and am able to tell apart black teas from:

India
Sri Lanka
Kenya
China --> Try Lapsang Souchong
Turkey

You will never find better teas than The Republic of Tea http://www.republicoftea.com They make real tea (black, oolong, green, white) in amazing flavours, as well as other herbal teas. Their Vanilla Almond black tea is out of this world.

Tazo (http://www.tazo.com) is great as well. Their Chai, Citron, and Earl Grey tea bags are amazing.

More coming later.

http://www.adagio.com/ has some very good teas. Rooibos is my favorite thing they sell, and it comes in several flavored varieties that are amazing. They have sample size tins that you can buy to make sure you like them. (Don't order honeybush tropics, which comes with the honeybush flavors sampler. It is vile.)

It's looseleaf rather than bags, but that is a good thing in terms of flavor/quality. They even have a little teapot that strains the leaves out for you.

Dragon Fly Teas is a great company as well. This one is heavenly:

Rooibos Earl Grey

They also have Vanilla rooibos, Chai rooibos, Mint rooibos, etc., but I have only had the Earl Grey one.

^^ That mentions yellow tea. I have never heard of that before. Anyone tried it? I looked it up, and it seems to be just a tad different from green, so maybe most people put it in the same category.

Global Village has a mint lemon? tea that is out of this world. I am not a tea person, but I love that stuff.

I had a hellish study session and then exam, and I hauled my ass over to GV, told the guy there I needed something, couldn't drink ANY more coffee , but wasn't a tea person, but I thought that's what I wanted this time, and could he please make a suggestion? I feel like an ass doing that to people, but I was in terrible shape right then.

Oh. My. God. I'm halfway tempted to go make a cup now, even though it's bedtime.

Also, the Aveda tea is pretty damn tasty. But it's like $18 for I dunno how many. PM miska about it.

Why? That's part of their job. If you work at a coffee shop and you can't come up with a suggestion based on what someone is telling you, you're probably too dumb to work in a coffee shop

Because I've been on the other side of that exchange, and the vast majority of the public is too stupid to please.

If you suggest something and they happen to not like it, it's somehow your fault, even though they're the ones who say 'pick something for me!'

That, and it's rather lazy to bother to pick out something for one's self.

But if you know you wouldn't personally do that, why would it bother you to ask for a suggestion? Unless you are one of those people...

Seriously though, I worked in coffee shops for over 5 years, and it was pretty unusual to have someone be a douche bag about something they asked a recommendation for.

If you want flavor

Try this one and it has so many different spices you will get a bang out of life after just one sip.

Also, make it Indian style. Boil tea bags in water and add milk or half and half, one table spoon of sugar and you are in heaven.

Celestial seasonings coconut thai chai is my new favorite. Rooibos with some decaf black and spoces, but doesn't have the nasty taste of most decaf teas. Almost didn't buy it because of the decaf part, but am glad I did.

I've found that Darjeeling is a good tea to make the transition from coffee. Add some cream and a dash of sugar and I'm good to go.

I am sure it is good, but I have discovered over the years that Chai blends are done better by white people than by Indians.

Here are 2 mind-blowing chai blends:

http://www.republicoftea.com/templates/detail.asp?navID=284
Tazo Chai (http://www.tazo.com)

And this one is superb as well, very comforting:
Vanilla Almond Black http://www.republicoftea.com/templates/detail.asp?navID=269

And these sound heavenly, but I haven't had them yet:

Rooibos Chai http://www.republicoftea.com/templates/detail.asp?navID=289
Green Tea Chai http://www.republicoftea.com/templates/detail.asp?navID=324
Vanilla Rooibos http://www.republicoftea.com/templates/detail.asp?navID=313
Pomegranate Vanilla Rooibos http://www.republicoftea.com/templates/detail.asp?navID=2122
Citrus, Apple, Vanilla, Almond, Rose Rooibos http://www.republicoftea.com/templates/detail.asp?navID=316
Ginger Peach Black http://www.republicoftea.com/templates/detail.asp?navID=267
Cinnamon Plum Black http://www.republicoftea.com/templates/detail.asp?navID=268
Blackberry Sage Black http://www.republicoftea.com/templates/detail.asp?navID=283
Rose Black http://www.republicoftea.com/templates/detail.asp?navID=53
Cranberry Blood Orange Black http://www.republicoftea.com/templates/detail.asp?navID=1379

And this sounds the best:

Try any of the Chais and Vanilla-infused teas I listed, or best, try the last one in this post, the Tea of Good Tidings by the Republic of Tea. Order online, or buy at Wholefoods or any other large health food store.

go see Traci, the tea lady at the fairgrounds or visit her website.
http://www.tearificspices.com/teasmain.htm

I've been going to her for years now. She only does "loose tea" and creates her own custom blends.
Some of my favorites include:
Rooibos chai
Triple Berry
Madagascar Vanilla
Berry tea-licious
Peach fuzz
Yerba Mate

Her website is very informative.

Eh a classic is the english style tea. Being half-British naturally I love it, but I've gotten some of my friends/girlfriends to enjoy it, too. It's not only the english tea leaves/bag, gotta add some stuff to it. Get some Typhoo or PG Tips, they're generally stronger ones, and you gotta let them steep for a bit, not just dunk them a few times. Then add about two spoons of sugar (arty sweetener is sometimes unless you're used to it already), and half and half or creamer. Just make sure the water is boiling though, not just microwaved hot.

/ $0.02

I don't drink hot teas very often. But is there a place near State where one can get a good cup of hot tea? Cup A Joe?

With the cold weather coming, a cup of hot tea sounds pretty good.

Instead of reading all of this, just go to the Teavana store in Crabtree mall and talk to the girls there, they know their shit and have all kinds of tasty teas and herbal drinks both subtle and strong. Or you could walk a little bit further in and talk to the really nice Chinese man that runs the bamboo kiosk and he'll tell you about real tea, but I doubt you want to spend a couple grand an ounce.

I feel like I'm talking about a Morrowind sidequest.

^^ Save your money and make it at home. Get tea bags (or loose leaf). You can control everything that goes into it, the desired strength, the flavours, etc. Get Tazo teabags Republic of Tea teabags.

Not like they will go bad even if you are an infrequent drinker. Tea lasts for years. Just keep it airtight to prevent loss of flavour and aroma.

^^ Thanks. I want something that's not bitter or too strong.

I've had hot tea over the years, but I don't know much about it. Just to narrow my taste down, I like strong iced tea and weak hot coffee. In addition, I prefer my iced tea to be sweetened and the hot coffee to be sweetened and cream added.

Suggestions for a hot tea that I might like (probably with sugar and cream added)?
