Well, I'd like to contribute to the married people and finances thread over there. I personally think that if both people in the marriage are doing there part, then there is no reason to have seperate finances. Just because one person makes more money than the other person, doesn't make that person more valuable in the relationship. Say you both work 40 hours a week... both of you deserve to share the income because you are both providing the same. This goes for children or housework or whatever. If you make each others lives better by the activities you do, then you each deserve an equal portion of income.

is that really the only reason to keep the bank accounts separate? i've only been married for 1.5yrs but never had a problem with this and our accounts are separate - the easy solution is to not look at the credit card statement (even then you only see the potential store...) for a short period of time
