My biggest gripe with uverse is I can't make any changes to my account online. I get some weird error message every time, despite having spent a lot of them with their support people on the phone.

I think they flagged my account or something since I used to game their online ordering system specials to get perpetual free HBO/Cinemax/Showtime and the occasional $50/$100 gift card etc.

If I cancel my account with them, is there any reason they wouldn't let me sign up again after a couple days? That way I could get a hardware refresh too...

AT&T is currently doing prep work to start installing high speed fiber in my neighborhood (Renaissance Park). Been seeing their trucks around a lot recently, and they've done all the surveying and marking of the ground with paint. Hard to believe this huge development's only high speed option for almost 10 years has been TWC.

Thank God that is about to change.

I have already called "to cancel" and talked to retention. It was not a very good experience. There is no way to get my old plan back "the promotion has expired", the next best option is ~150 a month but that requires a 1 year contract.

How the fuck do they get off giving you a contract for doing no work at all? I can understand on a new install they have to pay a vendor to come work at a house for a couple of hours, but just to put my bill back closer to what it was before that seems like a load of shit.

The guy sent by TWC does not have a ladder tall enough to get up on the pole to connect the wire, he had to call a bucket truck.

I guess the landline is free now, which is fine because I can use it to send faxes.

They get you on the boxes though, each "client box" is $11 a month. Either way I was gonna have to spend more, ATT would not go back down to $122. It was going to be about the same price for either service, but TWC has way faster internet speeds where I live.

The only problem I had with TWC last time was the cable box fucking up, resetting, deleting shows, the internet was always flawless. Hopefully with the new equipment they are using that wont be an issue anymore.

I just got 400 channels, 40mg/s internet, two boxes (one wireless) with DVR and HD for like $120/month.

I hate how they throttle your Internet speeds until you do something about it. Checked it last night and it was at 7 down 4 up and then I called and it jumped up to 15down and then the guy was like let's test it and it was at 35 down, which is "in the threshold". Such bullshit. I told them I'd call every day if I had to because I was going to get what I paid for.

The whole house DVR is a piss poor setup. You can watch anything that is recorded anywhere in the house.

You can not record shows, or pause from any box other than the main one. I asked the installer about it and he said you can change recordings on your phone.

Aside from issues mentioned above this DVR beats the fucking shit out of ATT.

You get 6 STREAMS to primary DVR, you can record 5 HD shows and still have a free channel to watch. This has no affect on your other boxes either, you can still watch any channel on those with all 6 streams in use on main DVR.

Also, the menus are blazing fast compared to ATT.

Just to add a little something to this thread.

Uverse had jacked my bill up from ~$100 to ~$220 once my first year promo expired. I used online chat and got an offer of $150 if I'd reup my contract, not low enough I told them, so they gave me the customer retention number. Customer retention was even worse. They said they had no idea how the person on chat had come up with $150 and the best they would do was offer to lower it down to $180 with another yearly contract. So I put in a cancellation request for two weeks out.

Two weeks later, about 10 minutes after they actually turned my service off, I called customer retention again. It was an entirely different experience this time. The lady could not have been nicer, said she would just turn it right back on, put me in the system as a new customer, and give me the same $100 new customer rate I had for the previous year. About 10 minutes of her clicking on the keyboard later, everything came back on and I've been paying $100/mo since. I was out of TV and internet for a total of about 30 minutes.

So they reactivated the equipment you already had? I figured they would be too fucking stupid to figure out how to do that.

It is a non-issue for me at this point though, all my equipment was shipped back last Saturday.

I feel like DirecTV's Genie is the best of both worlds. Doesn't have any of the weird quirks you mentioned, and allows for recording of 5 HD shows at once as well (not 6 total though).

^^^Yes they booked a new install appointment, then immediately called the tech and told him he didn't actually need to show up, then just reactivated the equipment I already has as if the tech had installed it.

I too thought this would probably be way above their pay grade, and to be fair even the concept of it was for any previous retention specialist I had talked to, this one in particular was just really competent. It's a total crap shoot as to the level of competency and the bill reduction options you're going to get any given time you call, which to me is the most frustrating part.

I have the rental modem. I don't think any of the ones on the list are enabled for the home phone service which is built in to the bundle. I probably will never use it, but figured it would not hurt to have it.

So far I love the service. The DVR does not have "conflicts" ever, unlike ATT which was constantly interrupting diff TVs around the house. The secondary boxes have that issue I mentioned before, but its a good tradeoff to be able to watch and record more streams.

The internet speeds are my favorite thing.

has anyone had any success in going with the local channel only option, with internet, for a few months and then calling back in to upgrade for a good price?

I think i'm going to try this for the summer and utilize netflix and Prime and try to cut back on my overall TV watching. But i'll want cable back come the fall for baseball playoffs and the TV season

^^ I used to do similar things, but using their website...and doing that at least, you didn't really have to wait. Drop the TV package from U300 to U200 for example, and there would often be a promotion available on U300 (after a day to process), so I was only without U300 for a couple days max. I did the same with HBO/Cinemax, which used to be 3 months free at a time. Drop the service, get it for free again. Did a similar thing with their $5 off for 6 months on their internet service.

But after doing this shit for like 3-4 years I guess they caught on or something, and now whenever I try to change anything online I get their OH SHIT page. It's been that way for over a year, so I'm not sure if you can still game their promotions like that.

so after years and years of TWC raping me, i am finally going to start letting ATT rape me instead..
ordered 75mbps internet and the 400 channell tv plan. I am the first house on my road and the ATT box is in my yard (the guys are there weekly messing with it)..hoping this translates into less outages and generally OK service with them..
I was fed up with having to verify that I didnt get random charges on my bill every month with twc, i went from a 25mbit plan with twc to a 75mbit plan with att, and more channels with a better dvr (or so i have heard) and I am saving $30 a month ...

after reading this thread I am starting to worry that uverse isnt all its cracked up to be..

my install is on tuesday (already postponed once due to technical issues)
