Didn't see a thread for this year, so here you go. I'm not an organizer or anything - just wanted to give this event some love. Mods, delete as need be.

There’s a time to run, a time to eat donuts, and a time to do both at the same time. Yes, it’s Krispy Kreme Challenge time again! http://www.krispykremechallenge.com/

Here’s the deal. Runners start at the NC State University Belltower, run 2 miles to the Krispy Kreme, eat a dozen donuts, then run back. In under an hour. Last year they had around 3,400 runners, and raised over $20,000 for the NC Children’s Hospital. This year they expect around 5,000 runners. It’s a great time, for a great cause.

I've posted mileages, course notes, and whatnot at http://sourcetosea.net/krispy-kreme-challenge-2009/

Again, visit http://www.krispykremechallenge.com/ for info and registration. You know you want to.

Great, they raise $20,000, and cause losses of $200,000 to society over the long term because of that event (from the increased consumption of donuts on that day). And if you are looking at not just that day, they cause losses to society in the millions ever the years, and in the billions over decades.

How great is that!!!!

Hey, as long as you are happy contributing to the billions of taxpayer dollars that are used to treat diabetes, heart diseases, and cancers every year, be my guest and go take part and encourage others to take part!!!

(not to mention, the billions in losses every year due to sick days related to such diseases)

I need to start running so I have a chance of completing this thing. Last year I had just broken both my wrists and wasn't in the mood for running.

OEP, can you explain how you calculated that $200,000 figure? I'm also interested how it will cost billions over decades, but I'll settle on the $200,000 for now.

I wasn't but 2 or 3 doughnuts deep at that point, why I'm smiling and the other guy (10 or so deep) doesn't look happy.

yeah! because the event encourages participants to routinely consume an inordinate amount of donuts, thus sending them down a slippery slope to a life of poor health and preventable disease! and everyone who runs it is already in horrible shape to begin with!

Anyone who can run the 4+ miles probably won't have a health issue eating 12 doughnuts one time.

Thinking about eating a dozen KK donuts at once makes me want to puke I do enjoy watching other people do it though.

each KK original glazed has 2g trans fat...so I'll be eating ~24g more trans fat than I have in the past year?

I ran last year. I scarfed down 7 donuts and didn't feel so well after that. Ended up just tucking the box under my arm and ran back...

I'm not running, but I'll do my part on the doughnuts.

^ I can usually only eat one if they're fresh and warm. Once they're not warm though, it's open season.

If eating a dozen doughnuts causes diabetes (according to retard logic) then I should be on an IV of insulin.

yea, they may be trans fat, i was just checking out there stats online that they provide...I had gotten my prior stat of 2g/doughnut from a nutrion handbook citing specifically that each original glazed had 2g trans fat...book was published 2006. Called Eat This, Not That. I'm still going to participate...will be my first time I'll ever be able to do something like this. I've lost 100lbs since 1/21/08 and this will actually fit into my diet if I time it right. Going to be starting a CKD plan Feb 1st...guess the carb loading phase will wait til Feb 7th

I'm actually hoping I puke

remember reading an article in the technician last year about the methods the winners used to eat the donuts fast.

one was like, i mash up the donuts into pulp and "drink them"

FYI: Krispy Kreme doughnuts don't have trans fats anymore. But don't worry, there's still plenty of the regular kind.

did it successfully last year... I got to 6 and then was cheered on through the rest of the 12... no way I would have done that without a cheering section...

The run actually was pretty easy since running there is 2miles, then it took 15-20minutes to eat the donuts and by that time I had caught my breath and everything and was good to go for the run back...

the only time I got a little noxious was when I made the mistake of licking my sticky finger on the way back without thinking about it in an attempt to clean it a little...

that being said... I've done it successfully... won't be doing it again... my body hated me for the rest of the day

Looks like they're going to be doing registration on the Brickyard today:

(from Facebook) If you didn't get a chance to stop by the tent and sign up on Tuesday, we will be back out in full force tomorrow (re: Thrusday). If you bring cash ($16 for challengers and casual runners and $10 for supporters), you can register by paper application. It's FAST!!

As always you can register online at http://www.krispykremechallenge.com with a credit card. Registration deadline is Feb. 3rd!!
