"Obama alters campaign trip to travel to hurricane zone

(CNN) - President Barack Obama plans to go to Louisiana on Monday to meet with officials handling the response to Hurricane Isaac, which made landfall this week, the White House said Friday.

According to White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, the president canceled a campaign trip to Cleveland, Ohio in order to make the Gulf Coast visit. He will travel from Toledo, Ohio to Louisiana.

The announcement came hours after Mitt Romney's campaign announced the GOP presidential nominee was canceling a trip to Virginia Friday in order to fly to Louisiana and survey the storm damage."

Leadership by example.

Assuming it wasn't just a coincidence, they're both politicians, and Romney would have done the same thing.

The point is that Obama didn't decide to cancel a campaign event until Rmoney decided to go to LA to look at the damage.

Major -points for Obama. Not only did Rmoney beat him to the punch in looking presidential, but he subsequently cancelled some campaign events to "follow" Rmoney.

Romney doesn't have the responsibility to that Obama has. If Obama hadn't decided to go down there, the Romney campaign would have just made up a story about how he didn't go down there but Romney did.

I received this in my email inbox yesterday:

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/09/01/a-long-list-of-president-obamas-accomplishments-with-citations/

tl;dr version: It appears to be a list of reasons why liberals should still vote for Obama.

Obama needs a better approach to the whole "are you better off now than four years ago" question. Not because it's a good question but because the country is full of idiots who actually think the recession started because of Obama's presidency. Four years ago today the economy hadn't tanked; but Obama also wasn't president for another 6 months.

I don't have the answer but I'm sick of Jim Bob saying he pays more for gas now when four years ago today gas national average was literally exactly the same. Yes it was lower in Jan 2009; that tends to happen in a market free fall with commodities.

Acutally, the main point is that the republicans are masters of propaganda, and they will prolly keep charades like this going to build up a surplus of confidence before the debates, at which point Obama and the dems should destroy them.

^^^Those idiots are a lost cause, and will at worst only cost him the states he won by extremely narrow margins in 2008 (namely NC and IN). That argument doesn't really ring true with the majority of the electorate, at least not in the sense that they blame Obama for the country's economic problems. Most still blame Bush and congress for the slow recovery. It's become abundantly clear that despite the GOP's proclamation that Obama "can't run on his record", they can't run against his record either. It's why most of their attacks are based on lies and distortions.

You are correct, they would lose if they took that approach. I heard that instead they are campaigning on continuing to pursue Clinton era policies, or move back to Bush era policies. Which is a stupid argument to make in itself.

^^NPR. They've already begun campaigning on it. But you post in SB, so you must be right.

Just to clarify, they are campaigning on continuing their policies, which they describe as Clinton era policies vs. electing Romney and going back to Bush era policies. It is a stupid argument to make, but I wouldn't put it past politicians to try and make it.

I think you misunderstood what I meant. It's the GOP who pushes that question. I find it silly since Obama was inaugurated at pretty much the deepest part of the recession. It certainly wasn't his fault we were at that point (whether or not it was Bush's is irrelevant -- ftr, I dont attribute it solely to him) but its a loaded question for those who don't understand when the recession started.

BUT, the Obama camp has not helped themselves when it comes to framing their answers and until they do it's going to hurt their cred with indies..

Basically the average American likely IS better off than when Obama took office (jobs created up, stock market up, inflation at normal rates, etc) but they don't realize the "crash" happened under the previous lame duck regime officially.

"Fact Check: First Lady's False Fairy Tale of Struggle

First Lady Michelle Obama’s pitch to voters last night relied on the premise that she and her husband understand what it is to struggle to make ends meet. She spoke movingly about their early years--about how a young Barack Obama drove a car that was “rusted out" and found his furniture “in a dumpster,” how they both came from families that had to “scrape by.” Her fairy tale--however well-delivered--was one great, big, colorful lie.

off as impartial...basically it is a perfect site for mindless conservative sheep like yourself that believe anything put

It was fine. A fact check on the pre-2008 is good and she probably stretched some things just like happened at the RNC and she needs to be called out for that.

But the second they went in to -- "As First Lady, Michelle Obama has lived high on the hog while the rest of the country has suffered through an extraordinary recession." -- they lost all credibility and slid right back to partisan hackery...

^no, it wasn't fine. The article devoted about 2 ZERO lines to their lives from when they met (1989) to when they were married and established as working professionals (93, i think).

as you rightly say, the rest of the article was devoted to their lives after the era Michelle was talking about in her speech.

^^ How can republicans have people that will say misleading remarks about somebody, done intentionally to fool the middle class voting base, and then be proud to be a republican?5 I mean, you are basically getting the majority of your votes from an intentionally misinformed base.

In no way are the libs as misinformed about politics as the republican base. We can argue about this if you want, but I just don't see it. I mean, the dems aren't really saying anything that isn't true to the base, where as the GOP propaganda machine is.

The notion that "both bases are fundamentally misinformed" is hilariously incorrect considering one base is actively waiting for Jesus to return to Earth and personally save the United States from destruction.

God got put back into the Democratic platform, why? Because the GOP nominee for Vice President made a massive stink about it. When your party relies on a religion as a third rail to rally its grass roots, you don't get to call the other side 'misinformed'.

Exactly correct. And nobody has yet to provide a solid example of Obama "misleading" the base. The best thing that they got is Obama robbing medicaid while the rest of us weren't looking, and that isn't true.

I guess you could question his move to take away subsidized loans for grad students while he is so big on education, but really?
