I don't think anyone goes to jail for failure to appear for a registration ticket, from what I understand they usually just send you a letter saying your license has been revoked.

I've been through this process for a similar ticket in the past, but I lived in Raleigh at the time. It usually takes them a few days to even get the paperwork indicating that you didn't appear through the system, and for example this ticket still shows up as a pending appearance on the court calendar though it was yesterday..

more importantly, they have no idea where I live at the moment

you fail to appear for a ticket that would have been dropped with no fines at all if you just got a new registration and shown it to the fucking ADA

your FTA will result in DMV revoking your license within two weeks or some shit.

Now that you have an FTA, you are going to have to go down to Wake County to fix this shit or hire a lawyer. After you don't do any of that....

Next you will get a DWLR (Driving While License Revoked) punishable by up to 120 days in jail, then when you fail to appear for that as thousands upon thousands of idiots just like you do every year in Wake County, the court will issue an OFA (Order for Arrest)

Then, the next time a cop is riding behind you and running your plates looking for warrants like they do all day long, you get to sit in jail.

Why in the fuck people let stupid shit like this result in loss of their license is beyond stupid, it's incredibly stupid.

I submit a plea, like I mentioned in the first post that you complete fucking nitwits seem to have avoided entirely, to have the orders rescinded for failure to appear, and they pretty much always accept the first plea for a given case... the orders are rescinded, I am given a new court date as if I appeared and requested a continuance, and it's like it never happened.

then, I appear when I'm good and fucking ready to appear.

this is what you'd end up paying a lawyer several hundred dollars to do for you if you failed to appear... submit a form and appear on the new date. just shut the fuck up unless you know something about this process (e.g. how long it typically takes them to respond to a mailed plea), because you're only making yourselves look like ignorant trolls, kthx

If you don't do anything they'll send you a letter in the next couple of weeks saying "Your license is being revoked on (some date a couple months into the future)." Just call the clerk of court and they should be able to tell you what to do to get a new court date.

actually i have done this, myself. as well as sued people sucessfully in small claims, filed my own expungement, blah blah blah.


you go to the clerk, they hand you a form. you fill it out. you get back in line and they assign you a new court date.


since you want to mail it in, odds are that they will be flagging you as FTA. If you knew as much as you claim to know about the courthouse, you would know that mailing is going to take at least a week before someone there opens it, and i seriously doubt that faxing anything to them is going to work.

I've never missed a court date, but I did get one of those letters saying my license was being revoked one time. The laywer I had hired swore it was a court error. I don't know whether to believe him or not, but he took care of it.

you hit the nail on the head, but eventually they could/might arrest you but its not likely

none the less youve made it harder for yourself, you may get it dismissed with a fixed card but you have to hire an attny to get the FTA removed, cause that can hold up your license if you have enough of them

It was inconvenient for me to appear at the specified time to request a continuance, and I knew I could almost certainly have the date "retroactively" continued without appearing, so I didn't. Some may call this an excuse, I call this a calculated decision, and this thread was an attempt to clarify one detail of the process. I appreciate the honest attempts to provide relevant information, and even the amusing trollish responses like "GO DIRECTLY TO JAIL," but I gotta wonder what crawled up Mrs Grace and a few others' collective bum.

Your form for a continuance should've been submitted prior to your court date.

If you send it after, they might accept it, granted, and give oyu a new one, but you'll still have that FTA on your record with the DMV GUARANTEED.

NC DMV will still revoke your shit. Cop will pull you. Hello and welcome to DWLR land, population U.

This is NC son, the DMV doesn't work on your schedule, they work on their own. And they make shit take forever.

The same thing happened to me. I hired the lawyer to avoid taking off work, and then had to take off work to follow up on this this. Then, to top it off, I go to the lawyer's office, AND IT'S EMPTY. FOR RENT.

At this point I go through the fucking roof. I'm assuming this dude duped me. Maybe he wasn't even a lawyer! I'm punching the walls and shouting when I realize he moved across the hall.

But to this day I don't know if it was government ineptitude or he was just an alcoholic lawyer. Either one is completely believable.
