OOPS! I looked at the wrong table on wikipedia. South Florida hasn't won a football title in the Big East. As for teams like SMU, TCU, and Houston, they were in the SWC with Texas, Arkansas, and Texas A&M when they won some titles.

No Titles Since Our Last Title in 1987

NC State
Marquette
DePaul
Baylor
South Carolina
South Florida
Utah

Subtract Vanderbilt and Ole Miss thanks to SEC Basketball and add Utah thanks to conference expansion. I could see Utah getting a title in football, or basketball before us.

It is a list of schools that have won at least 1 conference, or national title in football, or men's basketball in a BCS/power conference since we last won the ACC Tournament in 1987. Some schools like Florida and UCLA have won multiple titles in both sports since then.

^I'm not counting conference basketball regular season titles, just the tournaments. The only regular season titles I counted were in football and basketball leagues with no title game, or tournament.

is conference champion not considered a "title" though?

conference tournaments really don't mean anything anymore

^Use whatever wording you want, but people remember the tournament champion and not the regular season champion.

My prediction for the list...

Marquette wins the new Big East before we win an ACC title (NC State shit)
Utah because the Pac-12 schools can't ever seem to make up their mind if they want to be good at football, or basketball. Some years the league is strong and other years the league is crappy in either football, or basketball.
NC State It has to happen sooner, or later
South Carolina They suck at basketball and the SEC is too good in football for them to win the league.
DePaul They play in the new Big East
South Florida When all is said and done, they won't be a member of any power conference in football, or basketball.

No it's not. the extremes are Texas on one end and Chicago on the other. Would say RDU is close to the middle, but obviously not the paradise of socal.

guess your definition is different from mine and other meteorologists

to me, 'mild' means between 55-75 degrees with no little to no rain/tornadoes/hurricanes/

Which is about what SoCal is mister meteorologist. Just saying that RDU is close to that. Certainly not unbearably hot nor frigid cold, with a worldly respected fall as a plus. Mild is a pretty decent description.

i wouldn't consider anywhere you need A/C for 3-5 months out of the year having 'mild' weather though. the summers in NC are pretty fucking hot/humid/uncomfortable. that's sorta like saying Vegas is known for it's mild weather- 3 months out of the years it's 100+ while the rest of the year it can be between 30-80 degrees.

the winters are definitely mild compared to the NE for sure though, minus the sleet/freezing rain.

meh. mild for the East Coast, i guess

^^^ Maybe you don't travel much but NC is a pretty sweet goldilocks in the middle.

Or maybee it is because I am stuck in Texas and already have to turn my AC on. Who knows, but folks in the carolinas got it good. Prolly better than any other climate not named SoCal.

oh, I live in the Bay Area. It's actually much milder in Oakland than anywhere else in the country. Rand McNally said so.

we don't even have an air conditioner. it rarely gets above 80 degrees, even in July/August

actually, there are plenty of trees up here, and they turn colors/drop leaves during autumn. if anything, you feel like it's either spring/fall all year long because it's pretty much always cool/mild. the only real way you can tell the difference between seasons is if the hills are green or brown. if they're green, it's spring/winter since it's probably rained a bit. if they're brown, it's summer/fall since it hasn't rained in months. it rains about 25-30 inches between november and april, so it's a Mediterranean climate- which total explains why Napa/Sonoma wines are so great.

when i lived in SoCal though it felt like endless summer. december/january were the best months since you could hang out by the beach/pool in the middle of winter. you definitely need A/C in the summer though, unlike here...

Duke has an AP #1 banner for 1999.

In any case Big East (ACC does not) always gave trophies and official recognition of reg season champion so IMO that's a legit title.

Taking this beyond just the championship stuff and thinking in terms of "memorable" things like Final Fours, then it becomes even more bleak for us.

NC State - Sweet 16s and a Gator Bowl are our recent claims to fame
Marquette - Final Four with Wade
DePaul - they don't even play football and have an enrollment of like 5000
South Carolina - 2 baseball titles and now a Top-15 program in football. Won the SEC East which is something.
South Florida - barely been around long enough to win anything. Got to #2 in football once.
Utah - Final Four with fat ass Majerus and made a BCS game under Meyer IIRC.

Honestly it is us, DePaul, and USF for the mediocrity crown. It is truly depressing that we have been so consistently awful to average for nearly 30 years. Insane. We are becoming the Chicago Cubs of the NCAA.

The cubs at least won their division last in 2008.

We haven't even managed that in FB. (Yeah yeah, ACC divisions haven't been around very long. But still)
