It's not unusual for a driver to make food in a pizza place, especially at night when there is little other staff. His outfit suggested that he was driver as well having no apron on.

Yep, I'll second that. I've worked in a similar place (pizza hut) and employees often did other jobs besides their "official" one when needed. I was a phone operator, but I waited tables lots of times as well as prepared food and washed dishes.
