My husband is the kind of guy who doesn't always remember or do anything on special occasions, but when he does, he does it up big.

For Mother's Day, he hid a jeweler's box in with the take out that he picked up for dinner. Inside, I found a pair of 1/2 carat diamond earrings.

Definitely a pro for this whole marriage biz.

Frankly, I find it bizarre that guys give their wives presents on Mothers' Day. Yes, the wife happens to be a mother, but not to the husband... or maybe that's how a lot of husbands see their wives (as mothers)?

Pros: She cooks like a gourmet chef (hence my weight gain), cleans like a mexican maid (actually, I do most of the laundry), and has never said the words "I'm too tired" ever (though, I think I've said them once or twice).

Releationship-wise, 1st year was tough going, 2nd year was the worst, 3rd year was much better, this year has been near perfect.

^^ i don't think it is weird to thank the mother of your child. i mean it is a day honoring mothers, you can honor a mother even if it isn't your own mother.

i mean you say "happy mother's day" to other mothers that aren't your own mother.

^ he might be jealous... but in his case, it is definitely a case of being an extreme conservative... and we all know they try to and have to act ultra-macho in order not to be seen as 'gay' by their own comrades.

I'm starting to think that I'm just not meant for that marriage business. I'll be 30 in a few months, and have dumped every woman I've ever dated, with only one lasting longer than 2 months (and that one being a somewhat forced relationship due to my daughter, and fucked up enough to make a movie about). Plus, I figure that a lot of the prime choices have been taken, so the odds have gotten worse and are only declining further from here.

at any rate, nowadays, most of my friends are married, and they get together to do married couple stuff. It's getting to the point where us single bucks are a little bit socially marginalized. I never foresaw that being married might actually be conducive to having an active social life!

I wouldn't be worried about the prime candidates being taken unless you're looking at a specific age-range (close to 30 I assume). You should be more flexible, and the good thing is that younger girls are now a more mature 25-26 rather than the 21-22 y/o you would be interested in previously.

yeah it's kind of interesting how your social circles work depending on what stage of life you're in.

It's like single people tend to flock together
then married folks tend to flock together
and then married folks with kids tend to flock together

and it's harder for each group to hang out with the other. Or at least this has been my experience. When I first got married, we started seeing our single friends less and less, and spent most of our social time with other married couples (not by design, it just kinda worked out that way).

Now that we have a kid, we tend to hang out with other people who have kids for the same reason, although it's probably more evident that people without kids generally don't want to deal with other people's kids (with some exceptions of course).

^ i totally see that too. but i don't understand all of it. our friends that are married are our same age and in our group of friends, pretty much everyone is coupled in a LT relationship. there are like 3 or 4 couples that have all been dating 4 or more years. and we've all been friends during that time. but just because we aren't all married yet, we are like not cool or something? or aren't relevant because we aren't married? because our married friends rarely hang out with us. we all have jobs/are in grad school. we've bought houses, cars, etc. i just don't get it. that is what scares me about marriage. i don't want anything to change. i'd like to think that if i were engaged right now, i'd still hang out with my friends in the same way. but after observing many a specimen, this is not how it works! and i've just heard things through the grapevine from the mouths of some married "friends" - saying that we are all different now and they are in a different phase of their life. i guess marriage is a different phase, but i don't think it has to be THAT different to where you MUST alienate yourself from all nonmarried folk.

the kid part makes more sense (like a LOT more sense).
