in the state of north carolina, those "keep back ### feet" or "not responsible for broken windshields" signs are horse puckey...they carry absolutely no legal weight

I know fire trucks are built to last and all, but I'd expect a bit more damage from an impact like that... crazy...

Yeah they're lucky the bar was low enough or they'd be headless right now at those speeds.

Car carrying two N.C. State students crashes into fire truck

Posted: Jun. 14 6:41 a.m.
Updated: Jun. 14 3:37 p.m.

Morrisville, N.C. — Two North Carolina State University students are recovering from injuries suffered in a crash Saturday morning when their car hit the back of a parked fire truck that was responding to a vehicle fire on Interstate 40 east near Aviation Parkway.

Aubrey Marett, 21, was driving at about 65 mph at the time of the crash, Morrisville Public Information Officer Stacie Galloway said.

Neither Marett, nor passenger, Kristen Carter, 29, was wearing a seat belt. Marett was in listed in fair condition and Carter in good condition Saturday morning, a Wake Med spokesman said.

No firefighters were injured.

Emergency crews shut down all but one lane of I-40 near the crash, which happened around 4:30 a.m., Galloway said.

“When the (Morrisville Fire Department) responds to accidents on I-40, the first engine on scene starts incident mitigation and the second engine parks further back from the scene to act as a traffic calming device,” according to Fire Chief Todd Wright. “Cones are placed even further back from the scene.”

The women’s car hit the cones at full speed and did not brake before hitting the fire truck, officials said. The car was totaled and the fire truck sustained cosmetic damage, Wright said.

Charges are pending, Galloway said."

how the hell do you not notice something like that? especially when you are hitting cones? Suicide runners maybe? seriously? wtf >_<

I can't imagine how much "awesome" it would be to see something like that happen (if you take out the account of peoples' lives at risk and all)

When someone is listed as being in fair condition that doesn't automatically mean they weren't seriously injured.

Just a btw kind of thing son.

my boyfriend knows/used to know the driver. from hs. thought i recognized the name.

also they are lucky to be alive i guess. but i mean...like everyone else said...how do you hit a bunch of road cones and not realize it? obviously they were out of control. will be interesting to hear whether alcohol was involved.

Damn straight. And yeah, I would be really suspicious about alcohol being involved. You have to be suicidal or drunk/stoned out of your mind to be that slow to react to a fucking firetruck in your path.

this is the reason they put an extra fire tuck out was a blocker for incidents in the roadway. also why ambulances and fire trucks have huge bumpers, but how do you hit a truck like this with all its emergency lights on when its dark out?

I think one would have been safer standing on the back of the firetruck than riding in the car

^ I'm going to go ahead and guess that sign actually has some merit to it unlike the ones found on rock shitting, retard-driven dump trucks.

i think that's going to lend itself to the fact that they were drunk. They say that in a drunk driving accident the drunk driver usually suffers the least injuries b/c they usually don't brace themselves before contact b/c they have slowed reaction time.

As for no seat belts, they are FUCKING LUCKY they both remained in the cabin of the car. It would have been like a fly smacking into a windshield but

fly = girl
windshield = back of the firetruck

from the comments on WRAL.com:

^In the pictures on that site, it shows the red suburban the guy was driving, but then shows a jeep or some other silver SUV that got smashed accordion-style between the bus and burban.
