6/26/2009 8:49:00 AM
The truly strange thing about all this...This is probably the most 'normal' thing I've seen to come out of Japanese culture.
6/26/2009 8:50:20 AM
oh good it isn't functional. i thought we had a weapon of mass destruction on our hands.
6/26/2009 9:36:16 AM
I think they did calculate how much a functional gundam-style robot would cost, and it turned out to be almost a billion dollars.http://www.pinktentacle.com/2008/01/725000000-gundam/
6/26/2009 9:41:52 AM

The barrel monster guy has nothing on this.
6/26/2009 10:44:55 AM
Haha, that's sweet.I get the impression that Japan is going to consider building a military walker sooner or later. Not something 60 goddamn feet tall, but perhaps something else. I think there are commercial (useless) walkers available now. At least this one:The Land Walkerhttp://tinyurl.com/mw4p8b

I don't see how those would be useful other than being a 1 man tank capable of moving into tougher terrain/deepr waters that a modern tank would otherwise find unpassable. I mean, that thing is so lightly armored and would stick out like a sore thumb in any combat situation. And I KNOW production of something like that can't be cheap. But it is uber cool nonetheless. Humanoid vehicles that size are completely impractical.I'd say the max size to have a useful mech is about 20'

^ I'm pretty sure it's made by Mitsubishi, not Mazda. Mitsubishi makes EVERYTHING, especially in Japan Speaking of which, I wonder if you have to take an EVOlator to get to cockpit. lolz.[Edited on June 26, 2009 at 3:20 PM. Reason : .]
