Ok, so I finally got pulled today for illegal tint (It's been a long time coming)... the sheriff said that if I get it removed in 15 days, I will have the charges dropped, but that I have to take it by Highway patrol or something like that to have it tested

is this really the route I have to go? and if so, anyone on here do this? or know where I can get it done for cheap (I don't want to do it myself, as I will probably end up making a mess of it, and I don't want to scratch my window)

HELP ME TWW!! YOU'RE MY ONLY HOPE!

sounds like you got a warning ticket, they want you to get it fixed and get a LEO to sign off on it? they never follow up on those, throw it in the trash.

he said it was a 350 dollar ticket- the guy was not very nice... he accused us of drinking and having open containers too (which was definitely not the case... i'm about to go check out the ticket)

ok, there is no fine amount written on it

also, instead of me signing the ticket, he just wrote "served" there... I thought I had to have it signed? there is a court date for it, but he didn't write anything on the back (saying whether or not I had to appear or if I could mail it in)

sounds like it could either be a written warning, or a fix-it ticket.
If it is a fix-it ticket, you can pay to have the tint removed, or pay the extra gov't tax and keep your tint.

I would just go to a bar and have some random guy sign/date it: "Tint removed from vehicle- SGT Jack Dilweed SCHP" then tell the assistant DA that you were living in SC the past couple weeks helpign your elderly grandmother move to a rest home. Leave the fuckin tint where it is, don't cower down to the man, you arent some gangbanging piece of shit, or some child molester, or trying to circumvent the law in any manner with your tint. Sack up, son- this is america- do what you want.

Professional tinters have a special tint remover tool. Don't use a razor blade, there is a high likelihood of destroying your rear defrost.

Ok- got it off with minimal mess. Next- what should I expect to pay to get 2 windows done at 30%? I want quality (no bubbles now or 5+ years down the road) and where would y'all suggest?

^^^I just got my new truck's front 2 windows tinted at a place by my office in Garner. $65 for front two windows. Not too bad. Looks ok so far, haven't been able to roll down windows yet to see how well he did. But for $65, can't complain too much.

I think it's called Tinted Image, right off of US-70, next to Agri-Supply.

This is simple- if you are worried about getting pulled over, avoid doing anything that would warrant you getting pulled over. If you buy a car and you know the tint is illegal, then either take it off or get a doctors note for the tint.
OR do as I would do and circumvent persecution of my natural born right to ride behind tinted glass.
Biofreak70 you got pulled cause the cop thought you were DUI and/or having open containers. The tint citation was a bullshit last ditch effort to tag you with something when he couldn't find anything else. Having tint isn't wrong, it dosen't hurt anyone and by going through the trouble to remove it you are letting the State of NC, the DOT, the DMV, the Highway Patrol and local law enforcement shit all over you.

It would have been nice to come up with some kinda excuse for it too, like your grandma has cataracts and you take her to dialysis twice a week and the tint helps her migraines.

it sucks... i've had it since i bought the truck new in January of 04, and I've never had any problems with it (except one jerkoff who wanted me to pay him 10 bucks out behind the jiffy lube to get it inspected). I took it off, and I'm going today to get it re-scanned, which will get the charge dropped completely (I don't know if I will still have to waste my time going to court or not, but if I do, it will be to just show them a piece of paper from the DMV saying that it has been taken care of)

Once summer school is over, I am going to get some 30% put on there (wont be as dark, but it will be 110% better than having no tint...)

30% isn't illegal- i had 15, which was, but 30 is the legal limit in NC

legal limit is 35% in NC, but they give you a 3% buffer, so it's really 32%

mine checks 31.5% every fucking time and it's hell getting it to pass

[Edited on July 9, 2009 at 11:20 AM. Reason : 35% paper, but i guess the glass makes it come to 31.5%]

^a lot of times cars have a couple % factory tint... i know mine does. i have 30% tint and probably registers at 27% which is legal limit in Colorado

not many places sell 100% VT glass especially when it's tempered

Was this on State citation? It should just be $25 + Court Cost. Did he use a tint meter?

what do you mean "on state"?

and yes, he used the window meter thingy- he asked me to roll up the window a bit and then slammed it on there, so I could also see it read out 15

^^the officer himself said 30 is legal, and all the tint shops say 30 is legal as well, so that is why i was saying that

i "had" to get my windows untinted about 2 years ago. I had 12% light emitted.

took it to some place near capital and it cost somewheres around $80 to remove. I was pretty pissed but i needed to get my car inspected, i was already 3 months past the date. Soon after i saw tint removal solution at wal-mart and wondered if that would have been the better route.

it looks good without tint too so i wasn't that pissed.
