I'd wanted this car since the first time I saw it over 4 years ago, my favorite color combo... It's finally mine:

It's a 1998 M3 sedan with a manual, yes another. THIS car however, has never had any paint/body work, very few owners (originally by a BMW rep if I remember correctly), absolutely no rust, garaged it's whole life, etc. Yes it has some modifications (full bushings, inverted Bilstein Sports, H/R Sports, square wheel set up etc.), but is otherwise a clean and unmolested example. Of course it'll be for sale soon, inevitably, maybe.

It was garaged at VIR once. I never said it hadn't been tracked, it has, and will be. It's paint is in SUPERIOR shape to your Lancer though, with only minor imperfections. I just got some tires on it also, replacing all fluids, got it aligned... I'm way too OCD to keep doing this with old cars.

He is.. -this makes me really sad- driving an old Taurus. :/

By paint scheme do you mean the flag? It's a replica of the lightweight flag, the paint is just Alpine white over cashmere. Of course I have no idea what BMW calls these colors. I also really like Boston green over the same cashmere, and Estroil blue over dove gray.

yeah, i know what it is. i was asking so if I decided at some point in the future to search online for one, what words I could search for to find one (i.e., what BMW calls it)

So you bought it purely to molest it for a couple weeks, add another owner to the history and let is sit outside ungaraged and rust a little bit then sell it?? does not compute

your 3 series' paint job isn't superior to my lancer's. Not to mention the 'powder coated' rims that are now permanently darker due to heavy brake dust

Y'all crzy.

Fuck all that noise. I'd rather get a regular e30, pump up the jams on the suspension and steering, and do an engine swap for something with a little more juice.

Igor: I bought the car because I've wanted to for some time, and happen to think it's gorgeous. I've put over 20 hours into fixing it so far, believe me it will not rust in the few months I have it, and barring something unforeseen, it'll be in much better overall condition than when I bought it last week, it already is...

NeuseRvrRat: I kind of like the checker board but I would not have put it on there myself. It does get a lot of attention.

sparky: I do think e36 M3s are special cars, obviously as I've owned a half dozen of them, but I personally wouldn't and haven't done a coupe. And nowadays they're great deals to boot.

Skack: The car's not officially for sale, but if you're actually interested, contact me directly.

Golovko: Your car's sand blasted in the front and looks pink. This car has 3 stone chips, it also has a different set of wheels than what were used w/the Hawk pads. I hate to break this to you, but build quality/materials is not Mitsu's strong point.

zxappeal: To each his own, I can honestly say that the only M3s I'd personally own are e36 and e90 (both with 4 doors). The 4cyl also doesn't do anything for me.

Skack/smoothcrim: e30 is a whole'nother ballgame. I have the race car I'm still trying to work on, but the e30 is not going to have dual zone climate and keyless and great stereo and side airbags, and...

Anyway, here's one more shot of the ratty piece of junk:

Pink? you my friend are color blind. My car couldn't be more red and shiny if i bled on it. My stone chips are also from Rockingham's poor conditions.

correct. However, the Evolution is in a different class of its own as far as Mitsu standards go. It may as well not be called a Mitsu. just about at 80,000miles still on original everything (clutch, etc).

Yes, actually it can compute. Just because a car has been tracked doesn't mean it's been Ragged out or neglected. Heck, I'm willing to bet that some track cars are CLEANER than the most street cars. You can still track something, respect it, and keep it in great shape with proper maintenance.

Well yes you can be right. Depending on the event. I just thought high rpms and quick shifts we're apart of going fast. But that's not a race car.

Does the front sit higher than the rear? Still looks good

Ahmet...when I'm in the market again I will be looking for a 4-door but will settle for a coupe if I have to. the only gripe I had with the S50/52 engine was the damn VANOS rattle. I never really got over that. Has there been a fix for that yet?

Why does the rattle bother you? of my 5 M3s, 2 had the rattle 3 didn't (this car does not). Anyway, you can always replace them...

Quinn, et. al. I like this car a lot, doesn't mean I'll keep it. I like a lot of cars, and I get some joy out of fixing them, not to mention the money I make. I didn't buy this car to make money, but I'm buying the silver sedan in need of an engine for precisely that reason. I will note though, I took pictures of the driver's side for a reason (I pulled the dent out), and here's two more from 5 minutes ago:

I see no football sized dent, nor paint in bad condition. Of course, everybody has their own opinions, and I certainly have mine. After owning 6 944s and a year long break, I owned a 1 owner 19k mile turbo S for about 4 months. I see this as a similar situation, while I look for a later model 911 or a GT3, see a pattern?

I mean if you're talking eclipse then sure...you just won't understand until you've owned one. Reading the forums doesn't help much for the reputation of evo's since 90% of evo owners don't take care of their car and drive it very poorly. But they'll run into the same problems with any car they drive.

MHI has good turbos. I dont know who makes them. I would assume they do but I honestly do not know.

I don't like the checked paint on the front b/c I believe that was an OEM thing done only to the rare lightweight model, which I believe was coupe only. Thus, this equals BMW's version of a fake Type R

Only 85 of them were sold in the US:

I agree. I really like e36 M3/4s, but man the white really makes the car. Just my opinion of course. Some other colors can look too, but I do have a favorite.

Anyway, on the flag issue, I mostly don't care, and visually think it looks good. I don't necessarily like the stigma, but I wouldn't go so far to say that it's the same thing as putting "Type R" on a base Integra for a number of reasons, one is that it's not directly claiming the car to be, it's commemorating the winningest sedan in racing (that'd be the BMW M3 -you know as in Motorsports 3), another is that the flag was available from BMW for non-Lightweight 3 series, not to mention that there's not a huge performance difference between a 98 sedan and a 95 lightweight. I'd say this is more comparable to fitting an Mtechnic package on a car after delivery, or aerokit on a 911 after the fact. After all is said and done, I would not have put it on myself, but I won't be taking it off either.

because everything on the car was so well balanced and refined. that rattle just killed it. i know you can replace the VANOS, but there is no guarantee that the rattle will not come back after just a few thousand miles. being that it doesn't really hurt anything i left it alone. the good thing was that from inside the car or even outside with the hood closed you couldn't here it, so its not that big of a deal, just a small gripe of mine.

Uh, wtf? Yet you still had a problem with it? Did you get a driver and hide in the engine bay for jaunts around town from time to time and just couldn't get over the rattle? I'm having a hard time seeing the problem here.

It's enough to bug anybody who's OCD. I know exactly how he feels, but I'd sort of looked past it.

Just picked up the other one, it actually drives really well, with new shocks the ride is very good also. Will post pictures later.
