there is a head in the way.

a rwd inline can dodge the footwells.
but a rwd flat 4 blocks the footwells with heads.

True, I had not considered that. However the FA20 sits forward a good 4-5" more (at least) than the FC22 in my S2000.

Quote :
"Subaru is developing a turbocharged direct-injection version of its familiar horizontally opposed, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. One use for the 2.0T will be the recently launched rear-wheel-drive BRZ coupe, sources say.

The engine uses a single twin-scroll turbocharger and straight direct-injection developed in-house, rather than the DI/port-injection system engineered with Toyota for the current normally aspirated BRZ and the Scion FR-S.

Tuned for the BRZ, the turbo could generate 280 hp and 250-plus pounds-feet of torque. That would be a significant increase in output compared with the 2.0-liter boxer in the 2013 BRZ, which makes 200 hp and 151 pounds-feet of torque.

The BRZ turbo likely will debut as a 2014 model."

anyone know how reputable this site is?

They've already introduced that engine in other models. It's not a stretch to guess that they will introduce it in the 2nd model year of the vehicle.

It's relatively low revving engine, comparatively speaking. I wonder how it would affect the driving experience.

True that engine is nothing new. However they've (Subaru) been vehemently denying it will end up in the BRZ. That's really the only notable news here...so the question is where did this one source (that everyone is referencing) hear this info!

Because sales would die off if they announced turbo but they would be dumb not too since the aftermarket is making a killing off turbo kits for them.

And subie actually pays attention to nasioc.

I mean that's what I think as well, but its not like they didn't expect people to say it doesn't have enough power. 200 hp in 2012 is like 100 hp 20 years ago.

why not double dip on early adopters?

and the turbo may not make it such a sweet fluid car to drive.... now it has that rep people will just think they're just giving it more pwrrrrrr .

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING WITH ECUTEK TUNING.

/subaru owner

p.s. TRD is supposed to be making one... probably less power but more reliability.

I've heard that as well, that Stout Racing is developing it for them. Hopefully it's a positive displacement blower, b/c I want that low end grunt dammit!

I'd be happy with 280-300 crank hp

yeah those kinds of kits are typically outsourced. Toyota, Subaru, and Yamaha aren't going to expend manpower on a low volume dealer-provided kit.

Supra coming!!!!... in 5 years

(and a model that will slot below the 86)

Quote :
"Rumors of a Toyota Supra revival have been circulating for years, but GT 86 chief engineer Tetsuya Tada has confirmed Toyota President Akio Toyoda has asked him to "make a successor to the Supra as soon as possible."

Speaking with Asia One, Tada said the company has approved two new sports cars which will be positioned above and below the GT 86. Tada already confirmed one of them will be the Supra revival, but the other remains a bit of a mystery. Speculation suggests it could be an MR-2 successor.

A timetable hasn't been set, but Tada said "The GT 86 needed five years to develop, so at least five years is required for the others." The Supra successor will take priority, so the entry-level sports car is likely a ways off."

take 24hp to net make 45.

net so it stresses a 200hp engine to 70hp but you only get 45.

^are you suggesting that it's BSFC increases? (I assume that's the case... still making more power, though. what about the torque curve?)

well..... yes..

but what i'm really saying is to compress 27.5 lbs/hr to 8 psi requires 25hp pulled straight off your crankshaft... so it not only induces bending moment on your crank... but... stresses your entire bottom end 25 more hp then it gives you wahh wahhh wahhhhh...

sadface...

then it has the typical BSFC rise from being boosted and targeting 11/1 afrs

i dunno... unless i have 8 pistons to distribute the blower drive power across i feel they just stress rods and stock bottom-ends on little 6s and 4s too much to be worth-while.

on diesels where you need the insta-boost to bring up your turbo boost quicker and your bottom ends are fucking tank strong... i think they're brilliant.

But on little motors... shit naw. i'll wait for my boost thank you...

and centrifugals... fuck centrifugals... worst of both worlds imho unless you do the way oversized blower + blow off valve (is it still a blow off valve if you're using it to bleed off boost rather then to bleed off excessive pressure once the throttle closes?) trick everyones doing these days

I see your point, but I think if the goal is around 300-320 crank hp and a good torque boost down low a positive displacement supercharger is still the way to go.

If 400+ hp was the goal...I'd probably agree.

IMHO turbos are always better... if you only shoot for 300-320 and get a 30lb/hr turbo... there shouldn't be much lag if you do everything right you should be able to leave with some boost and not smoke-em and then build boost and never shift out of it.

A small turbo will probably make more torque then even a roots or twin screw blower.
A big turbo should make more hp then a roots or a twin screw blower.

Mostly because you're playing with efficiencies.

I sent out one of those emails from cars.com to a few dealerships stating that I was interested in the Subaru BRZ. And I am. I mean I would at least like to test drive one.

Johnson Subaru called me like 5 minutes later asking me when I can come in for a test drive. I told him Monday and then I heard some talking going on in the background on the dealership's end. Then the salesman tells me they won't have one in stock till December, but that car was book marked to be used for the Raleigh Auto Show so we couldn't drive it. Then he tells me that car will be back in their showroom the end of January and I could drive it then. WTF.

Performance Subaru in Chapel Hill emailed me saying all 2013s are spoken for and if i wanted to build one it would be a 2014 model, arriving in late 2013.

What in the hell, I feel like I'm trying to order some rare coveted Ferrari. Why the fuck aren't they building more of these cars?

I was at Johnson Subie last weekend, they said they sold a black one the week before. I guess it had been sitting in the showroom for a while as a "demo" and then they were allowed to sell it, and it sold pretty much instantly. The lady I talked to said 15 month wait with $1000 deposit.

also i really hope toyota realizes that the fame with the supra comes from its durability and insane mod-ability... if they try some BS 400hp hybrid sports car shit its going to flop harder then the 1997 did... in 1997
