So Toyota has been pushing for a sedan, but Subaru is not agreeing.

I like it.

According to an insider "Scion reportedly wants the model to go on sale in early 2016 but its future remains in doubt as Toyota and Subaru would have to agree to the project."

So I went and looked at BRZs briefly yesterday. That's not a lot of car for $28k sticker.

a bespoke chassis with a bespoke engine, one of the best handling cars built in the last 25 years, and the lightest RWD coupe you can buy in the US.

Plus $28k is the absolute most you would pay for that car.

Wondering if I should try my luck! I guess with thousands trying to add the same product at the same time, it is basically impossible to get it.

But, that car--any car--for $1? That's gotta be the best deal in the history of cars?!

^ Speaking of Lexus IS, the new Lexus IS Coupe is out, and it has been renamed as Lexus RC, and this GT 86 sedan looks kinda like the Lexus RC

Sure, except like 700lbs lighter.

Funny you say that, b/c over on the FT86 forum I stated that Toyota is just coming full circle, back to the original 2000 Toyota Altezza.

300hp and 2,800lbs sounds fun. But if it's with that 6 spd auto, well... That would be a disappointment.

^^ seems like you are mixing up 2 cars.

the comment about 700 lbs lighter was not for the lexus RC, but for the GT 86 sedan.

the Lexus RC is a... Lexus! so it will come in at 3,500 lbs i guess.

^^^exactly

^^^^ true, but it's output of 215 hp is similar to the FA20's 200. Not a far stretch to compare them if a sedan was made off the FT86's chassis.

http://www.autoblog.com/2017/05/23/subaru-brz-sti-spy-shots/?ncid=edlinkusauto00000016

tl;dr:
Quote :
" Despite the STI badges, we don't see any evidence that this BRZ has any kind of power adder like a turbocharger or supercharger. The front vents appear to be the same size as the current model, and there's no hood scoop to feed a possible top-mounted intercooler. The exhaust also looks roughly the same as the naturally aspirated BRZ."

The new forester XTs don't have hood scoops, and aren't STIs going to the 2.0 (instead of 2.5) soon as well?

........of course it's turbo'ed.

Nothing about another bullshit handling package. Though I have no clue why there's some stupid huge wing.

Official sneak preview of BRZ STi (shot of massive wing at rear). To be unveiled June 8.

But don't get too excited:

https://www.motor1.com/news/147071/subaru-brz-sti-teased/

Quote :
"In regards to power, we are not expecting a major bump over the existing 205 hp provided by a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter engine. It seems unlikely the sports car will be blessed with a turbocharger, so we’re likely looking at a small increase to somewhere in the region of 220-230 hp. It's worth pointing out that Japan's BRZ tS STI did not actually come with a power boost, so there's a distinct possibility it will be the same story with the new version for United States.

It remains to be seen whether the car being teased here will be a regular production model or it will end up as a limited-run special edition. Whatever the case may be, expect to pay significantly more than Subaru is asking for the regular BRZ fitted with the performance pack, which retails for just under $30,000."

Can't imagine why some reporter would say "expect to pay significantly more". Everyone thought the Performance Package was gonna be expensive; instead it ended up being a decent deal.

Unless there's a lot of extra power a big wing is just dumb. It's just gonna slow the car down with drag, nevermind that on a typical race track a BRZ will barely ever get up to any sort of speed to make the wing useful.
