When the dems were in control they stopped a constitutional ban that would have been redundant with state law. But now that the GOP is charge is has a real shot at passing, to the tune of 5.7 million to implement (according to the General Assembly's own fiscal note ... at the same time they're cutting NC State's budget by millions).

Furthermore it is even more restrictive, to the point of not allowing many businesses to decide to offer domestic partner benefits. So in addition to be totally redundant with existing law on marriage, it will go further and strip some people's benefits like being on their partner's insurance.

My husband is on my dental insurance plan right now. We may lose this if the GOP gets their way.

I think the constitutional amendment bill is supposed to be introduce within the next 2 weeks.
