Fuck it, I'm putting myself out there. I love Twitter as a news feed (possibly too much) and since I spend limited time in front of a radio / TV / computer these days, it has become my primary news source:Burr for Senate: http://twitter.com/burrforsenateKay Hagan: http://twitter.com/SenatorHaganMises Institute: http://twitter.com/misesThe Economist: http://twitter.com/TheEconomistJohn Robb: http://twitter.com/johnrobbJim Jubak: http://twitter.com/JubaksPicksAfPak Channel: http://twitter.com/AfPakChannelPolitico: http://twitter.com/politicoNPR Politics: http://twitter.com/nprpoliticsForeign Policy Magazine: http://twitter.com/FP_MagazineThe Motley Fool: http://twitter.com/TheMotleyFoolWWII Today: http://twitter.com/WWIITodayBloomberg News: http://twitter.com/BloombergNewsPRFreakonomics: http://twitter.com/freakonomicsWall Street Journal: http://twitter.com/WSJCERN: http://twitter.com/CERNPrice Floyd (Deputy SecDef for Public Affairs): http://twitter.com/pricefloydADM Mullen: http://twitter.com/thejointstaffMercatus Center: http://twitter.com/mercatusWorld Meets US: http://twitter.com/worldmeetsusoh and . . . fuck Twitter[Edited on January 5, 2010 at 10:51 AM. No comedians, musicians, or athletes?I think if I cared about twitter, that's the type of profession whose twitter I would follow.

I'm a political / news junkie. I follow NCSU Football and VMI athletics, but that is about it.

chad ochocincokenny powersmike gordontim heideckerthough following is a very loose term here as i maybe check twitter once a month
1/5/2010 10:50:13 AM
I've got it set up on my phone so I get probably 150 - 200 a day and I just hit the highlights.
1/5/2010 10:52:35 AM
wow, i kinda get annoyed with my 5 or so facebook notifications a day, id get pissed with 150 twitters
1/5/2010 10:54:29 AM
Especially since a lot of the high volume "Tweeters" probably "tweet" like 20 times a day.[Edited on January 5, 2010 at 10:55 AM. Reason : I'M LOOKING AT YOU, ROGER EBERT ]

^^ Facebook is inevitably more mundane than people I follow in Twitter. I'm really only on there because it requires no actual effort of my own.^ AfPak channel is probably 45% of my tweets followed by the Economist at around 25% and the rest fill up the last 30%. ]
1/5/2010 10:57:27 AM

that's the beauty of twitter. you don't have to follow ochocinco if you find his irritating tweets irritatingthe same rule generally applies on facebook, but i still get the occasional application request spam from my aunt or something[Edited on January 5, 2010 at 2:07 PM. Reason : .]

^^ Well, for who I follow. I mean, sure I'm happy one of my friends just started marathon training and it's neat that someone else's baby is 2 months old but the fact that someone is cold, or that they're happy their dog isn't pissing on the carpet any more . . . I don't really care. But deep down inside, I'm an impersonal asshole and, while I'll feign some sort of interest because these people are my friends, I'm more interested in the ins and outs of the world at large. There are perhaps many philosophical points to be made about that attitude, but it is what it is for now.^ Exactly. When Mafia Wars and Farmville make their way to Twitter I'm gone. ]
1/5/2010 2:09:25 PM
ya but the only point to twitter for me is to follow people i wouldnt be able to on facebookso i do enjoy 1 out of every 5 of his tweets, its fun to watch him make a fool out of himself. but the other 80% of nonsense coming from him and everyone else on there is largely annoying. i prefer going on there laughing at the couple funny ones i do see and then moving on. just saying that 150 texts a day from random bozos on twitter would drive me insane
1/5/2010 2:11:14 PM
For me, Twitter distills the information without the extraneous noise that clogs Facebook. I'll look at a message, decide if the link bears further investigation and click or not click at my discretion. It beats having to scroll through pages of status updates and mindless commentary. You all know what I am talking about, John It's 72 in Costa Rica, so nice!Sara Yay John I'm jalouse!!!!!!!Jeff hell yeah buddy!!! drink one for me!Candi Jooooohhhhnnnnn, I'm sooo happy for you take me next time ha ha . . . miss u muah! ]

Mostly a random assortment of FB friends who added me on twitter too, so I followed them back.I tried using tweetdeck to narrow it down to just the updates I care about, but I don't care about any of them, so I haven't been able to get into twitter so much.

73 total people...mostly I follow friends, a few musicians and celebrities, and then some news and sports page (NCStateFootball, WRALSportsFan, ncstatehoops, CanesCountry, etc) Of course, if you're into State atletics, Lee_Folwer is a must follow...he still tweets on occasion but he was at his peak a few months ago.

Only followed by 16, but I know them all. Every once in a while I'll get a follow from some weird/oddball page (I guess they see what I tweeted and then follow me if it pertains to them...I don't know) and I'll just block them, that's too weird for me.
