So ever since 2002 I was told in High School football to "put your face in the numbers" to tackle. 8 years later after suffering from chronic neck pain I discover this in the helmet I cracked (and got for free):it says:"Do not strike an opponent with any part of this helmet or face mask. This is a violation of football rules and may cause you to suffer severe neck or brain injury, including paralysis or death."So who thinks I can sue my old school system for over 3 years of pain and suffering for teaching us a dangerous technique to tackle?

seems to me like you should have read it
1/11/2010 8:10:05 PM
goddamnit people these days always want something for nothing
1/11/2010 8:10:28 PM
Football is a dangerous sport, the chances of injury are understood by the participants. Man up and get over it.
1/11/2010 8:10:47 PM
It's certainly worth a shot, if you don't mind losing.
1/11/2010 8:11:05 PM
It was the coaches responsibility to teach safe techniques of tackling (I was an Outside Linebacker), we weren't even 18 yet.
like you would've been "that guy" to argue with the coach about a fucking warning label inside your helmet hahahawhat a loser.
1/11/2010 8:11:40 PM
No cluesucks that it caused you an injury man. One of my friends in HS (and one of our best players) had to stop playing football after hitting too many people. Doctor made him stop playing (tackling that way) after he started having random seizures, foaming at the mouth, etc... during the day in classes.

I feel like I'm watching Friday Night Lights ITT.
1/11/2010 8:13:00 PM
The only thing is I had at least 2 concussions and I never told the coaches. One was a blackout on the field laying down concussion; the others were less severe (more confusion).I just feel like this could happen to any football player and people need to be warned.
1/11/2010 8:13:48 PM
khcadwal would be the person to ask i thinkim pretty sure youd have to prove that this was an ongoing thing they taught so you would need other people to back you up and to have developed similar injuries and to prove those injuries came from following the directions of your coach
1/11/2010 8:30:52 PM
I do have plenty of football friends who used the same directions and some of them do have similar injuries but not as extensive as mine. The main thing I have as proof is every film from every game we ever played and a highlight film of my best moments (my Dad filmed and still does).

i don't know why, but this thread title gives me seizures
1/11/2010 8:39:18 PM
If you're enough of a pussy to make this thread, you're too much of a pussy to have been trying to play football. It is your fault.
1/11/2010 8:39:59 PM
carl face...this thread...
1/11/2010 8:40:56 PM
you might have a caseactuallyespecially if you have others to form a class action...I mean, I played football too... and I'm not sure if I remember that correctlybut "put your face in the numbers" sounds like the kind of advice every coach gives...which doesn't mean it the correct advice... it's a sound technique but it might not be a healthy one...actually, I don't know if negligence falls under "giving direction or advice"you weren't "forced" to "put your face in the numbers"you were directed and advised but not forced......and the responsibility probably does fall upon you to follow the equipment directions...actually... as silly as this sounds, do minors have the ability to "legally" follow directionsis there an age when they are held responsibly... you can't expect a 3 year old to be able to read and follow directions[Edited on January 11, 2010 at 8:48 PM. 1/11/2010 8:41:48 PM
the only thing is the coaches who were there in 2004, almost half of them are gone now. I've always wondered about this ever since my neck pain started and I know of at least 3 other players with similar injuries who played linebacker/fullback
1/11/2010 8:44:17 PM
BREAKING NEWS: YOU CAN GET INJURED PLAYING FOOTBALLGoddamnit, just stop being a pussy. It sucks you've got permanent injury, but to try and blame someone else for it years later is a total bitch move.
1/11/2010 8:45:53 PM

This is the type of trolling I'd expect out of lafta. Like, real pathetic shit.
1/11/2010 8:51:04 PM
Don't you and/or your guardian have to sign some sort of release in order to play high school football?
1/11/2010 8:51:06 PM
There is a release, I'm in the process of getting a copy of the 2004 release that I signed. (it changes yearly)I know you can't sue for a bunch of things, but being advised to do something extremely dangerous (like shoving your face mask into a person) is unlikely covered in the release. I know death was covered but that was by pure accident, not by direction from the coaches.
1/11/2010 8:52:40 PM
if you led with your helmet when you tackle you're an idiot.anyone who told you too is also an idiot
1/11/2010 8:53:16 PM
^dude, you look like you weigh a buck nothingshit
1/11/2010 8:55:44 PM
anyone that plays/played football knows all coaches said to keep your head up and put your face mask in the numbers. Also for someone undersized (I weighed 140lbs Sr Year) helmet to helmet contact is the most effective way to knock a bigger person down due to center of gravity.

anyone who participates in high school sports has to sign some type of waiver relieving the school, school system, employees etc. from any liability in order for you to your participate in sports. It was usually a form you filled out when you got your physical form turned in.[Edited on January 11, 2010 at 9:04 PM. Reason : ..]
1/11/2010 9:04:05 PM
I know there was a release, now I just need a copy of it to see what it says. Anything could or could not be covered in the release. Just because you signed a release doesn't mean the coaches can do anything or teach you unsafe techniques.
1/11/2010 9:05:02 PM
1/11/2010 9:05:03 PM
Helmet to helmet contact is not the easiest way for a smaller man to knock down a larger man. Hitting high will get your narrow ass run over.
1/11/2010 9:05:38 PM
What's the contrubutory negligence rule in NC? I mean, if it's a serious injury I got because my football coach was an idiot who coached me to break my neck... maybe I deserve some $north carolina.
1/11/2010 9:05:44 PM
^^ proves you know jack shit about hitting football players.I wasn't O-Line, cut blocking doesn't work for defensive...[Edited on January 11, 2010 at 9:07 PM. Reason : ,]
1/11/2010 9:06:14 PM
^ Who's the one with a neck injury and who couldn't read a fucking label on their helmet?
1/11/2010 9:07:44 PM
yes because we all read warning labels covered under pads....
1/11/2010 9:08:17 PM
I love the stupid fucking nerds and their stupid fucking opinionsI wonder how many of these people played football?I mean, maybe some people who actually played will tell you the same thingbut footballs fucking rough, and you do do what the fucking coaches tell you to do...and regulations on athletic sports are not perfect... they could be fucking something up across the board, it is possible
1/11/2010 9:12:07 PM
my cousin died at 13 years old in a football game...
1/11/2010 9:13:10 PM
yeah, that's totally believablea real number of people do die playing high school football (and I guess youth athletics) every year

1/11/2010 9:17:47 PM
I dunno, I'm pretty sure coaches at just about every level, including the ones who coached me advised our DBs to hit low in the open field. No coach that wants to keep his job is ever going to tell you to intentionally go helmet to helmet.
1/11/2010 9:18:24 PM
no wait a minute...I thought we we talking helmet to the chest...which is illegal, right... now that I'm thinking about it... that's spearinghelmet to helmet is stupid and no right minded coach would suggest it...I'm all kind of confused now...
1/11/2010 9:20:09 PM
I'm telling you what my coaches told us yet you keep telling me about make believe coaches...
