I'd guess it's something like best buy does where you get a $50 gift card when you pre-order and you can use that when you actually purchase the phone.

"Beginning today, customers can pre-order HTC Arrive at any participating Sprint Store with the purchase of a $50 Sprint gift card. Customers who pre-order HTC Arrive will have their name added to the Device Wait List and be contacted to set up an appointment to complete their purchase beginning on Sunday, March 20. Through the pre-order process, customers will have peace of mind knowing they are able to get the device they want and receive the full retail experience, including Sprint’s Ready Now customer service experience."

sounds kind of gay

Well, I am about to go find out, and I'll let you know when I get back.

I would like to pre-order and all, but I don't want to go to the store and do it. This is about the lamest shit Sprint has ever pulled.

Basically, you buy a $50 giftcard to have your name added to the pre-order list, and then when they call you on or after March 20, you can use the giftcard toward the purchase. Interest free loan.

....no words really. Since WP7 launched Apple has updated iOS 3 times (4.3 just came out today). Android has also had 2 major version releases. Meanwhile, MS is breaking phones with an update that doesn't actually do anything. Failure doesn't even begin to describe how poorly they've handled this platform since launch.

Our Verizon Business Rep said Mid-March HTC Trophy and this was documented in a "internal use" Powerpoint presentation showing upcoming devices and promoting LTE.

The latest rumor for VZW/WP7 launch is March 24th:
http://www.wpcentral.com/verizon-htc-trophy-be-released-march-24th

Dell Venue Pro is TMobile only. Dell does have 2-3 other WP7 devices slated to launch this year.

It will probably launch around the same time the update for the current WP7 phones hits. So the 24th sounds about right.

Though if the update gets pushed back, the CDMA phones probably will too

Got the HTC Arrive on Sprint. Fiance went with the EVO 4G. So far I'm pretty impressed by the Arrive, even though I like the form factor of the EVO 1000x better. We are doing a head to head comparison between Android and WP7 this month to see which we like better.

i'd love to hear how well it works with multiple email accounts, i don't like that android can only have one activesync account.

so far it seems to work really well.

I have an exchange account and a gmail account. Each has a separate live tile, and shows inboxes separately on the tiles and the lock screen. I like that a LOT.

^^^ with android you can link multiple exchange accounts with 3rd party apps like enhanced email or touchdown. Still waiting on the htc trophy from verizon.

yeah i have touchdown, and while it seems to be the best 3rd party implementation it still leaves a lot to be desired. a smoother integration of both would be much much better.

My sister and bro in law got their HTC Arrive yesterday, couple of thoughts

-Their house doesn't have very good cell reception, so it stays on roaming for most of the time, while my Evo works without going on roaming..

- The slider feels a bit rough.. almost feels like it needs some WD 40.. This was true for both phones..

- Touch sensitivity on the screen is brilliant! much smoother and better than the Evo.

- Phone restart is pretty quick.

- IE is much better than before its usable now..

- Voice recognition not as great as the Evo..

- No mic key on soft keyboard..

- The live tiles look pretty..

- Copy paste works in some situations..

I have the arrive too. I didn't even realize it was already updated, and was trying to figure out how to get the update I already had.

Yeah copy/paste works great, but as evidenced above, it's obviously not a feature I ever have needed (never really used it on the iPhone either)

What I'd really like is to be able to highlight a number in a note or word doc and call it. Works great on WebPages but missing in local docs. Can you test to see if you can copy a number from a note and then paste it into the dialer?

can you guys tell me about active directory integration? I had winmo 6.5 and while the device to software pairing wasnt ideal, they did a lot of things right. for instance i could easily look up someone in the corporate directory and get their full AD details. the email interface is better than any other phone i've used as was the calendar. what forced me to upgrade was the device performance, battery life, and the lack of app support and a competent browser.

I have a motorola atrix now and i think it sucks balls. i just want a phone with a directv app, etrade app, pandora app, and a media player that can connect to my shoutcast stream and hopefully an app to control that,a decent browser, and really good mail and calendaring. facebook is a bonus but i dont care that much if the browser is decent. winmo 6.5 opera is not decent.

does wp7 provide this (seems like the OS isnt as business oriented anymore) and are there any sliders on gsm besides the LG quantum?

it probably doesnt have direct AD integration but if you have exchange you'll get all the person details from exchange/AD that comes over w/ active sync

Seems to be pretty full integration. I can look up a contact via "Outlook Directory Search" (which is exchange) and it gives me work phone #, email, company, job title and office # (which is everything I've ever been able to get from AD).

the only nit I have on email integration is no conversation threading. I'm sure this will get patched whenever the office app gets updated. Other than that I really like outlook email and calendar.

no idea about your app requirements, you can find out for yourself in a few minutes, just download the zune client and search the app marketplace. Honestly, with Zune, you don't need shoutcast streaming anymore though. Just setup the playlist you want and it'll stream over the network.

One of my favorite things about the Arrive (and Sprint) is they included the TeleNav GPS Navigator FREE with the HTC Arrive.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsxuVd_8vDQ for a review. It's pretty damn good. Far better than Google Maps turn by turn on Android, and even better than Navigon (which I paid 80 bucks for) on iPhone. Gives gas prices with stations in proximity (saves me a few bucks per fill up on premium here in Seattle).

Also Fable: Coin Golf is the first game that's really surprised me with how good it is. And Angry Birds is finally coming out soon!

People who know exactly what song they want to listen to, but may not have it on their phone?

Really though, Zune doesn't replace Pandora, but there are other options like Slacker Radio and Last.fm.

for me its not so much about the cost, its about letting someone else decide based on my preferences. on my android i have a lot of music but tend to listen to pandora exclusively because of this reason. if it was up to me, i would just liten to the same crap and get bored of it.

If the user has a zune pass subscription applications should have access to the library for playback purposes. Not just play/pause/stop/next but play(song, artist). And, it should be extended across all platforms.

^they do. The Zune web API gives anyone full access to the marketplace and wp7 and PC have API access to the Zune client API for playback.

That is actually a really good idea, don't know why someone doesn't mashup pandora/slacker/last with Zune to actually put the music on your phone.

I was a long time user of last.fm, but I don't even use that anymore. I just have channels synced to my phone and the picks playlist that updates weekly. Between those two I'm getting more than I can listen to in a week

it would be double good for pandora because it would both expand their library and take the load off their servers at the same time.

Seems like it would be double awesome for any app that can use music to enhance or drive the experience. I may have to look into this

I think it would be pretty awesome (and totally possible) for the Zune service to basically create (or open to) a Pandora service. Maybe Microsoft should just buy Pandora and make it like the "Silver membership" for Zune... free music but limited control over what plays.

Yea. and if you merge the two you can take all the <3's and
or maybe instead of just like you could have "add to my pandora/zune station" and then click the station to add it to.

idk if thats something it already does or not but feature integration like that is a massive massive advatange microsoft has over iphone. If i want to get a song I just tagged on my iphone in shazam i have to click the itunes link which takes me out of the app, go into itunes, buy the song, then use ipod to play the music. If i want to get it into pandora i have to remember the name, exit the app, and enter it into pandora manually.

Being able to hear a song, tag it, and add it to my library, favorites, and/or a station would be pretty sweet. You guys might even want to consider building a music tagger app of your own thats built into wp7. Call it Bing Music or something.

if i could get something that looks like zune but functions like pandora and costs $36 a year (pandora one cost) i will not think twice about paying for that. at about $5 a month i stop caring about how it looks though and will just use the cheaper option.
