god of war and ninja gaiden are probably about the only decent console games. They're built for that platform. Halo was boring ass old shit, the orange box is 10000x better on pc and if you play it on consoles you're an idiot, mass effect was dumbed down for console gamers. The inventory system and driving sections were pure lazyness. COD is crap like halo and just total shit. Press forward button and hold down fire and you've beat the game. queers of war was short and boring. The entire game was a battle against the shitty control system.

I had absolutely no problem with the controls. Being the first game to truly use a cover based system well(at least that I can remember) is a hard thing to accomplish. It is definitely too short though.

Sure, you can use the same graphics card for 5 years. Just play the newest games right when you buy it brand new, and then bump your video quality further and further down until you're playing something that looks like Tekken at 10 FPS. aka solitaire.

BTW, you have to start dumbing down the graphics by more than 50% the month after you buy it

I am not saying it cannot be done. I am just saying its ridiculous to expect the average person to try and keep up PC gaming requirements. That is why consoles will succeed. PC games will never really die as long as their is a platform to play them on. I just don't understand all the hatred towards console games when there are quite a few that are extremely fun to play.

Shit, people. Come on.

PC Pros:
Better graphical capabilities (usually)
Can play RTS games effectively
Modding communities

PC Cons:
Harder upkeep for the consumer
Harder to develop for due to wide range of hardware possibilities
By and large, the online PC gaming community sucks dick (if you don't see any of the many reasons why, you're likely part of the problem)
Lack of competitiveness (there is no even playing field when someone can have much better hardware and equipment)
DRM bullshit (doesn't apply to all games)


Console Pros:
Easier to develop for
Easier to maintain for consumer
Better support for games from the hardware developers
Even playing field for competition
No DRM, can be purchased used
Ease of access

Console Cons:
Most people online are dumbasses (though most people are dumbasses anyway.... so one could say it gives an accurate representation of the general public)
No modding community
Worse graphical power
Can't play RTS games well


It's not a concrete answer at all, it's all about what people want from their games. If you want to be able to start something up, have fun for a bit, and not have to jump through a few hoops before doing so, play console. If you care so much about graphics and elitism that you feel like going through the extra trouble of buying hardware/manually patching/dealing with the occasional glitches during installation, play PC. If you like playing with you friends and don't mind the fact that there are plenty of idiots in the world, play console. If you dislike stupid people so much that you can tolerate surrounding yourself with uptight pricks with aspergers who care way too much about a game, play PC. If you want to be able to buy used games on the cheap, play console.

Or, hell, be like me and DO BOTH. PC for mod-heavy games and RTS-style games, console for everything else.

Regardless, this thread is about GoW. I've dumped enough of my wisdom in here and some of you have dumped in enough stupid/trolling that we may as well end the subject.

As for GoW, which is the topic of this thread, I'll quote Yahtzee, since he really puts it best:
"I can't say Gears of War is a BAD game, because it's not. But it does represent everything that is wrong with mainstream gaming today."

Strong design fundamentals in a game that is ultimately idiotic, completely generic, and mass-marketed for maximum sales. It's not a bad game, but it certainly isn't breaking any new ground or making any progress towards advancing gaming as a whole.
