Why has this never been mentioned in here? It's a free online multi-player game that is actually really damn good. It leans more on the realism side than Call of Duty but it is still awesome.

I used to play AA2 and then when they went to AA3 I quit for a while because of compatibility issues. Anyway, AA3 works fine now and anyone into this kind of gaming should try it out because it's completely free to obtain and play. It's obviously a recruitment tool.

i used to play around 1.6 and on until the Dev team started falling apart (2.5-2.6ish?) and the community around the game started to fall off a lot.

On this version there is no cheating unless you glitch and if you do you get kicked. There is still votekicking. They removed the ability to jump (You can still climb things, just not jump up and down like an idiot when people get really close to each other) which makes it a LOT more realistic and much harder in my opinion. Bullet noises are VERY realistic. You hear snaps when rounds go by like 20 feet away and cracks when rounds fly very close to you. The SAW now uses tracers and they deflect off of things and fly off into the air and shit. Grenades are more realistic. You can dive on a grenade and take the brunt of it for other people. Healing is more complicated; if the person is unconscious (If their health drops below a set point) you have to decide which treatment to apply given the symptoms of the patient. There are four different major symptoms and four corresponding treatments. It is actually pretty cool because it forces you to think in the middle of getting shot at if you want to revive a really good player. It seems to add more of an element of realism than just holding the spacebar and healing. The honor ratings are seemingly more complicated and they favor those who do heal/revive. There are achievement coins which are cool in my opinion; you get "Hawkeye" for killing 5 enemies in one round, "Deadeye" is for killing 3 enemies without leaving the sights, while "Ultimate Sacrifice" is for diving on a live grenade and saving at least one team member from certain death. I believe there are about 30 different achievement coins.

The body is also broken up into a bunch of pieces which can be struck by shrapnel or bullets. Head shots are instantly fatal, shots to the pelvis often make you bleed to death quickly. Shots to the neck tend to do this as well (Obviously neck and head are not the same). Body armor is realistic in that it only protects the regions of the body it actually covers, a sniper can still kill you with one shot to the head, The servers I play on never have any glitching/hacking/cheating (I usually play a map called "Alley" on either [NOBS] or 420 Honor servers).

rofl i played night and day when i was back at State...around 1.2 to 2.8 iirc. competition was fierce. i was on jCp for a bit. i still have mad respect for oR rainmaker and jCp stan and some old timers...

aa3 sucks donkey balls. we all left the game for cod4 and then when mw2 fucked us in the ass by not including dedicated servers, we decided to just play casually or grow the fuck up and do something else with our lives.

Any justification behind that statement or are you just saying this because you suck at AA3? AA3 is an improvement on AA2 in every way and I know a lot of people who continued on to AA3. When it first came out there were some issues but the game is fine now and it's a highly realistic game. I can see how that would turn off arcade people. I don't care for arcade type games and yes, I have played COD4 and I enjoyed it but there are certain aspects of AA3 that I like better and that are certainly far more realistic.

AA3 uses actual recorded sounds for essentially every major action in the game (Gunshots, M203, magazine changes, etc), which is just one of the many things that makes the game great. They removed the jump feature because it was less realistic. If you're trying to play some quake-like arcade shit then just admit you don't like realism, but if you're going to trash it and offer no justification then don't mind me not taking you seriously.

Anyway, I'm fine with you folks missing out on it or admitting that you're too used to arcade style games to operate effectively in this one. I was just bringing it to your attention since I noticed it had never even been discussed here before.

it was always pretty realistic

they just slowed it down too much - it lost it's fun-ness when they did that and took out jumping and stuff.

Yes, it was always pretty realistic and now it's more realistic than it was. As I said before, just admit that you want arcade style games rather than realistic, challenging ones.

Some information on authenticity in America's Army 3:

Technology in AA3:

Here's a video made by an extremely good player who has skills that many people simply can't comprehend and this causes them to accuse him of cheating. I think a lot of people don't like AA3 because people who play it are good and you can't use bullshit like jumping around to avoid getting shot (Which is clearly fake as fuck):

But yeah, it "sucks donkey balls" for those of you that suck and can't handle realism. You can hear people walking on floors above you in buildings, you can hear them walking outside of a building, etc. Muzzle signatures give away your position, shadows can be used very effectively or can give you away, lighting effects in general are extremely realistic. In general, the realism level of AA3 is extremely high. It honestly amazes me that anyone with any level of appreciation for realism could say AA3 actually "sucks donkey balls".

You die IRL, yes (I'm not talking about the game).

Clearly it's a simulation. Keep in mind that the FAA will allow pilots to log hours in a flight simulator that count the same as real flight time. Simulators can be highly realistic and useful. Realism is AA3's strong point. Of course, you realize that doesn't mean anyone is claiming that it's real.

while we're trying to be condescending of others' opinions for "preferring arcade games," let me be just as dick-ish and condescending:

you fit right into the stereotype of the type of person this game is meant for. let me guess, you're in the fucking 83rd Infantry Battalion clan and you guys show your ranks in your gamer tags so your name is like =83ID=1LT_sAAbTuRbO-^_^ right? and you're white trash that lives in a trailer park and would be an ideal military recruit, right?

oh no? that's not true? well, i guess stereotyping and being condescending doesn't always result in true assumptions. we learn something new on Tdub everyday...

maybe you should learn SARCASM today. it's clear you have no idea what it is.

but anyways, enjoy the game and its realism. i'm sure you took the red pill and know that if you die in the matrix, you die IRL.

Why would you play this over CS, competitively?

I played this for a few months when it first came out. It's garbage.

I played this game in beta, didn't know it still existed. I wrote the first article on the internet (back on geocities lol) on how to hack the client and run a dedicated server (game was on the ut2k3 engine). It was fun when it first came out, then they added all these stupid RoE that made you lose points for just beasting the other team solo. I stopped playing then. Is it still like that?

^^ Absolutely, and it's far from garbage. They're slow to fix bugs, but the current version of AA3 is perfectly fine. I can understand that you sucked complete balls at it because of the fact that you can't play it like an arcade game, but that doesn't mean it sucks.

^ The ROE is taken from reasonable things because this is a game the Army endorses. You can't kill an incapacitated enemy soldier (You can be incapped and revived) without getting ROE violations and you can't kill your own team without getting ROE violations. Other than that it's fine. Note that it takes a lot of ROE to get sent to Ft. Leavenworth (Or if you wound a friendly in the first 30 seconds of the round, which is essentially always intentional). There are no ROE violations for winning a round singlehandedly, the game rewards you for that with various achievement tokens actually. There is nothing that says you can't kill the entire other team yourself, although that is extremely rare unless you're stupidly skilled or the other team sucks incredibly badly. One head shot is instantly fatal, so you have to be really quick to shoot enemies and you have to be skilled in your decisions about when and where to engage. If you run out in front of 4 dudes that suck really badly, you're still probably going to die from the sheer probability of one of their rounds hitting you in the face.

One of my favorite things about AA3 is the fact that you can hear people walking and running. Walking is quieter, but if somebody is in the building on the floor above or below you running around, you can hear them. If they're right outside the building running up to a door, you can hear them (Assuming there isn't a lot of shooting going on near you). You can now dive on a grenade and take the blast, thus preventing others from dying (You get an achievement token for this, actually). You can hold your breath to stabilize your sight picture as well, which is very realistic. The sights move around a good bit, which is realistic as well. There is no bullshit auto-aim feature. There is no jumping either (You can climb up and over stuff, you just can't jump), which I really love. That was the one thing that ruined AA2, the idiots jumping around. Also, depending on where you get shot, you will have more or less trouble doing different things. You will bleed out more quickly with certain wounds as well. The encumbrance model is pretty interesting now too.

This is a game which actually requires skill to be developed and effort to be applied in order to succeed. It requires thought, planning, actual skill, reasonable tactics, etc.

Haha, not at all dumbass. None of that auto-aim bullshit and none of that arcade bullshit either ("Bling" and all that stupid crap). It's also FREE to download and FREE to play, unlike that arcade bullshit. Much more challenging, much more skill needed and FAR better players to go up against.

Only people who beat off to the thought of being in the military play this game. It doesn't have the army of 12 year olds to play it 24/7, so the competition is going to be superior in COD. I just see a bunch of noobs who can't pony up the 50 bucks to buy a real game

^^ You've never played it obviously, I don't run into many children at all on there and I have no problem finding servers at any time. Sometimes children are around, but it's actually quite rare. The game is much more team and objective oriented rather than just kill everybody oriented. If you have a team full of children, you lose. If you have a team full of people who cooperate, you win. Of course, COD players are a lot cooler. You're pretty pathetic son, you simply can't handle not having all the bullshit arcade features. I invite you to actually play the game sometime and demonstrate how easy it is to kill everyone since you're so used to such excellent competition in COD. My name in AA3 is mtoddson and I'm always on 420 or [NOBS] servers, let me know when you'll be on and I'll be glad to watch you die. Don't worry son, you'll get your ass handed to you quite quickly. I've played COD quite a bit and I know which game actually requires skill, teamwork and intelligence.

^ It sucks a whole lot better than the arcade bullshit. Kids like you just want easy games now, you can't handle any skill. None of the people saying it sucks actually have any real time in it. They just went on, got the shit kicked out of them, cried and then went back to COD where all of the children are.

Yep, really enjoyed flashpoint. So, if you play COD, you're a really cool dude who is so cool that you don't jerk off to the thought of being in the military. But if you play AA3 you obviously jerk off to the thought of being in the military. I really can't possibly come up with the words to properly describe the idiocy of that thought process.

Man, too easy. I would continue trolling in here but I've lost interest.

Regardless, what you say about the realism is pretty cool, and all of it other than damage is in COD. I find games that incorporate the variable damage effects don't do it very well, and none of it is special other than bleeding out.

But I'm sure this entire thread is a load of shit that you imagined in your psychotic head about the game's mechanics anyway.

1. Trolling is for chit chat, if you were just trolling the whole time you must have absolutely NOTHING to do man. It's just sad to troll a thread like this where I'm simply trying to give people the opportunity to try something new. Rather than allow them to do that, people like you come in here and prevent them from even trying because they take your posts seriously.

2. Until you actually try the game, you wont really see how all of the features I've described come together. There's no way I can adequately describe the game in words, which is why I've posted video of gameplay.

3. I've played both AA3 and COD a lot and there is a huge difference between the two. COD is easier and far less team oriented. It's like a newer version of Quake or some shit basically.

4. Nothing in here is made up.

I'll leave it alone though because bitches and faggots like you fuck up everything. I tried to give folks a chance to try a new game that they might like, but obviously that's a pretty fucked up thing for me to try to do. I do hope you die a horrific death and if we ever meet in person be sure to present yourself. Don't be a little bitch about it, come up to me and handle your shit like a man. Try some trolling to my face.
