I really can't think of any other establishment in the area that even begins to approach the greatness that is a Nur's Deli gyro.

on a related note, has anyone been to hector's/taza recently? there is a younger white guy working there now, and he calls everyone "boss" too...it seems that may be a requirement to work there

While I throughly enjoy a gyro, they are pretty much uniform in taste across the board.

Naw, it's the meat seasoning and the tzatziki sauce that sets a good gyros apart from a great gyros.

party in a pita is closed. They've gone back to the food-truck-only business plan. You can find them at just about any large outdoor event. Good people.

Neomonde doesn't have gyros. I'd go with Nur Deli, from the limited ones I've tried.

wow with all the Nur Deli responses you'd think the thread was titled "Best Gyro near Campus" and not "Best Gyro in Raleigh"

Solomons and La Shish are up there for me

usually the big hunk o' meat is Doner Kebob (chicken stuck together to look like a giant leg of something, similar to deli cuts before they're cut) but Taza Grill has actually leg of lamb they shave off

dude. fuck a chicken-parts gyro.

I want straight up EuroMeat/Gyro Meat, which is basically a meatloaf with Lamb and beef comprising the main ingredients.

I used to live in Astoria, Qns. Biggest concentration of Greeks outside of Greece itself.

I know a good gyro when I eat one

Yeah it's off Falls of the Neuse Rd.

speaking of quick greek food though, i'm a big fan of Jasmine Bistro (cary towncenter and hillsborough st). for Lebanese, I like Aladdin's Eatery off Falls of the Neuse. It's a chain, but a damn good one.

I like XIOS a lot. Like a lot. But the gyro is not one of their better offerings.

If you're going to go all the way to Apex, to a straight-up Greek restaurant, do yourself a favor, order something other than the gyro... Unless of course, you're a pussy, and don't like trying anything new...

For gyros the best I can claim to have had is at Nur Deli, but now I am intrigued to try some of these other places.

However, for other Mediterranean food, it's Neomonde or bust. God, I miss the days when my buddy used to work there and would shamelessly give me $10 of food for 79 cents.
