Tasu in Brier Creek is damn good (and its not considered to be in Morrisville, Brier Creek is in Raleigh, FYI). And you cant beat their buy one get one free deal that they have anytime, anyday. Kinda sucks that its for dine-in only, but there are ways around that...

I had a "surf and turf" roll in Mura at North Hills and it was excellent. I havent had anything else from there, but everything my co-workers got looked good.

I don't know where you get your information from but the guy that owns it is strait of the boat Japanese. Waraji does mean sandals, it also does have an alternate meaning

Kenji, right?

He's full of shit.

Kenji never had any ownership in the original restaurant. He was supposed to be an investor when they were opening up a new location. And he is full of shit.

Raleigh --> Waraji (it's expensive as balls though)
Cary --> Kashin (great, rotating appetizers)

to make the variety I want would cost too much and I would have too much leftover stuff after I made 4 different rolls- also I wouldn't know how to make stuff like crispy spicy tuna

I'm not sure who said that Sono didn't have fresh fish, but either they had some weird experience or they don't know what fresh fish is. Consistently Sono is one of the only sushi restaurants in the Triangle I enjoy. I've had face time with the Head Chef and Owner after I did a review of their restaurant which brought up some concerns--not only did the Head Chef personally write me a letter addressing how he planned to correct what he agreed were mistakes on his part, but he invited me back to see the changes he had made (specifically, lowering prices on non-alcoholic beverages, changing a tempura shrimp and vegetable dish, and teaching employees how to properly brew green tea, which he bought a better kind of).

Besides the simple fact that the experience is an uncommon one, obviously this speaks volumes about the Head Chef's desire to improve upon his passion and for his patrons to enjoy the time they spend at his restaurant. His hard work was recently acknowledged when The Independent gave Sono Best Sushi and Best Japanese Restaurant in the Triangle, a much deserved title.

...but yea, Waraji is good, Sushi Tsune is mediocre (if not poorly priced), Sushi Thai is for desperate people who still want to eat sushi but not open their wallets, et cetera. There's a place in Chapel Hill I liked but I can't remember the name.

I'm waiting for Sushi 9 or whatever to open where Ten Ten was.

I always have a soft spot for little tokyo

On a side note I'll be on a plane to japan next week for my brothers wedding
really looking forward to the sushi place and the soba place near his house
only wish he'd scheduled the wedding around the Bon festival so I could get some yummy
festival food again this year

^ God, travel during Obon is a clusterfuck of epic proportions. You should be thanking him for not scheduling it then. Besides, all that festival food is sold in the food courts of the malls in Japan these days

^^ Perhaps try going on a Monday right before their fish order and see if what people have been saying is true about that

I hope Waraji still has good katsudon. Or at least that my standards haven't changed enough to no longer like I wonder if Fukiko still works there.

Yeah for sure. I'm sure I'll be having a craving for chawanmushi not long after getting back. And with how my job search is going so far I'll still be with my parents within biking distance of Waraji

I think it's kind of a shame that all of the sushi restaurants in Raleigh are more or less the same. It's about time downtown Raleigh had a kaitenzushi place or even an izakaya.
